Mike Furrey, 7 weeks in... (2 Viewers)

I thought at the beginning weeks Furrey was just used to motivate Williams. While that may be true, Furrey has flourished at his starting WR position...and I'm personally beginning to think more and more that he will keep it up. The Mad Maniac Martz seems to love him, and the white boy just keeps posting solid numbers.

Might be worth holding onto, and I'd grab him up in any leagues as I'm sure there are still some that will sell him extremely cheap.

Martz SystemWilliams = HoltFurrey = BruceThey both have good value - with Furrey's value increased in PPR :2cents:

I was at the game, and the guy was very impressive. Seemed to get open at will with the secondary focusing on Roy. Still, Jones and Roy are the primary options, so I wouldn't expect those kinds of numbers all that often. But you could do a lot worse.

Remember, Furrey came to STL as a WR, but was stuck behind Holt, Bruce, Curtis. Converted to DB to try to fill in the holes there and get some PT. He knows the Martz offense and has been able to step right in, jumping ahead of guys still farther down the learning curve.

I'd have picked him up, but am already a Roy owner. He's a good play, especially in deeper leagues.

I picked him up in a pinch last year as a fill in at DB with a 1 year contract in a dynasty league. When Martz went out and got him, reverting him back to a WR, I was intrigued. I kept an eye on him in the preseason, and decided he'd be good depth, and held onto him since no one in that league even had him on their radar.

It became obvious he would be a steady contributor for the Lions, and went out on waivers and got him in my local as well, benching B Edwards late in favor of Furrey this week because of the Denver matchup and the bad weather reports for Cleveland.

Then, as a Jets fan, got my first good look at him yesterday. He is very Chrebet-like. VERY good hands, will go over the middle, and gets more looks because of the attention Roy gets. He looks like one of those #3 WR's that will show up every week and get something, and will on occassion have a day like yesterday. He's a check down WR.... and they are usually pretty consistant WR's.

The thing about Furrey that you have to love is that he plays absolutely fearlessly. He got rocked a couple of weeks ago and they showed him on the sideline itching to get back in and once he did he went right back across the middle and got rocked again - and made the catch. Kid's a player.

The missing ingredient: consistency.

In non-ppr, 6pt TD, 0.1pts per yard, weekly performance is 5,6,3,20,4,3,16.

I don't like a >50% chance of doing squadouche.

Didn't Tory Holt start out as the 2nd talented guy behind Isaac Bruce? Everybody has been saying Roy Williams is the new Tory Holt....so maybe Furrey is...um....also the new Holt? Sorry...I had a point but lost it...my brain hurts.

In my PPR league, he's currently the #12 WR. I picked him up on waivers a few weeks ago and am very happy I got him. He is definitely startable as a #3 WR in a PPR league.

I also have Roy Williams and take a look at their scores by week in my scoring system:

Williams

week1 6.6

week2 13.1

week3 26.8

week4 22.9

week5 1.7

week6 32.1

week7 10.9

TOTAL 114.1

Furrey

week1 10.5

week2 12.7

week3 6.8

week4 28.2

week5 7.1

week6 6.9

week7 25.9

TOTAL 98.1

Furrey has outscored Williams 4 of 7 weeks and only missed by 0.4 in week 2. You might say that Furrey is inconsistent, but pretty much all WRs are inconsistent outside of folks like Holt, Smith, and Harrison.

It looks like you are in a good situation. You can start both WR in a system that will always pass and (at least this year) always be playing catch up.

Mike Furrey is 30 years old. This is about as good as he gets.
