No, this isn't a "bandwagon thread" - yet.

However, recent news has DeAngelo Williams as a Game-time decision this week (vs. ATL, Week 10).

Most would expect the bulk of the work to go to Jonathan Stewart - but don't sleep on rookie Mike Goodson. He tore it up in the preseason and was on the deep sleeper / must grab list early this year. Nothing really materialized as Stewart was ready to go for Week 1, but now if DeAngelo is hurting, look for Carolina to use both of these guys in the backfield this week.

This could be this guy's opportunity, so if you are hoping to find that sleeper RB that could explode for you down the stretch and want to get the jump on the rest of the league..... now's your chance. No guarantees mind you, but you should now be checking to see if he is available just in case. If you have a spare roster spot, grab him and see what happens.

I've been on the Goodson bandwagon for a while, but noticed that Tyrell Sutton got some work (more than Goodson) in last week's game:

3 carries/15 yards and 1 reception for 11 yards for Sutton vs 0 carries and 1 reception for 2 yards for Goodson.

Makes me wonder who they'd use (in relief of Stewart) in the event Deangelo isn't a go.

I wouldn't discount him, but after other preseason darlings like Chris Henry, Jermichael Finley (although starting to show something), et al, haven't come close to their billing, I'm a bit skeptical.

who would be brave enough to actually start him this week (unless you project a win or loss by huge margins already)? i picked him up just in case for future weeks -- but only after i see him perform well (and given the opportunity to do it again).

Thats because Sutton was playing fullback and getting on the field for more snaps than Goodson.

Maybe I'm just bitter over him being a college fantasy football dud who I could not cut for three years because he kept teasing his potential, but since he could barely get on the field at Texas A&M toward the end of his career, would surprise me if he ever became more than a 3rd down back.

Goodson may have talent, but he's behind a more talented guy, who is behind the#1 RB on the team. Beyond getting some carries this weekend...is there really any upside here?

Regardless, what does it matter? Reuben Droughns was a fullback and I remember how he broke out to become one of the most talked about waiver pick ups that season.

So was Brad Hoover

It's possible. Think of this situation that happened at one time. NYG had Jacobs/Ward already, and Bradshaw gets a few carries, is very impressive... time goes by, Ward is now gone, Bradshaw was in the exact situation that Goodson is right now, Goodson will have to be very impressive for something like this to work out. It's something for guys in deep dynastys to be aware of, really nothing more at this point.

regardless, I liked what I saw from Sutton even if it was from the fullback position. He's obviously not a 'traditional' fullback, but he filled in as their 3rd option. Says something about his character that he volunteered for the job. Wouldn't that rub a guy like Fox the right way? Then again Earnest Graham did the same thing & look where that landed him

Goodson's inability to get on the field in his last year at A&M was a result of a terrible relationship with new coach Mike Sherman (rather than a lack of talent/production as this post seems to imply). Very frustrating for A&M fans. Most Aggies were extremely disappointed that he left school early, he is a special talent. Ridiculous speed and moves for days.

Interesting that Sutton is active today and Goodson isn't.

Could be because of the FB factor, or something else?

That says more to me about their faith in Williams and Stewart being healthy enough to make it through the game than anything else. If they were worried that Williams wasn't going to be able to carry a full load, or finish the game, it would make sense to have a 3rd RB (and not just a FB) active to cover their bases, so to speak.

He was on the field as not necessarily the FB, but because of no other option last week. A 5'8", 210 lb. FB? I don't think so. It is because he obviously has outperformed and outlearned Goodson at this point.Anybody that picked up Goodson was foolish. I tucked Sutton right under Williams/Stewart.
