Mike Hass...Any word on how he is progressing? (1 Viewer)

King of the Jungle

I think he has a chance to be a diamond in the rough for the Saints. Any news on how he is progressing, or how he looked during their preseason game?

Thanks

I haven't heard much about him. Although he's got a great opportunity. The Saints receivers, outside of maybe Dev Henderson haven't been wowing people in preseason. I like Haas but I think he's at least a year away from contributing.

I like his opportunity as well. Horn is getting up there in age. Stallworth sleeps in the doghouse. Henderson has hooks for hands. I see Hass becoming the next Steve Largent (yes, I had to compare him to a white guy). He knows the game well, runs great routes, gets open in zone coverage, and has great hands. Steve Largent is it not? Okay, maybe he is not ready for that label yet, but I like him nevertheless.

Everything I've heard has been good. Apparently he is catching everything in practice, at least according to the local radio guys.

Good is he really catches the ball ...Bad is he is noticably slower than the other players and has problems gaining separation ...

He has a lot of similarities to Rashuan Woods coming out of school. Good routes, great hands...etc. The lack of speed can be overcome...does he have the heart/dedication to do that is my only question.

I like him as a talent but can you seriously expect consistant pass protection?

Even in 3-5 step drops, Brees will be heavily pressured.

Hass missed the June minicamp - prompting Sean Payton to say that he's making up for "lost time" when asked about the rookie WR's progress. Hass has been as sure-handed in camp as he was in college. The problem for Hass will be standing out in a large group of WR in New Orleans - He'll probably have to impress more than Chris Horn or Marques Colston to make the team - not a huge task, but Horn is a veteran and Colston has more upside physically and makes more sense as a developmental player.

Anyone hear anything new about Haas?

I thought I would bring this thread back up. Did he play tonight? I see no catches vs. Dallas tonight and just wondering about his value on my dynasty roster.

I didnt see/hear him against the Cowboys (I admit, I wasnt watching too closely though). Interested on if he will make the team.

Gamebook is in . . .

he played, but it must've been on special teams only; I don't remember seeing him in on offense . . .

So whats the scoop Saints homers... Is Mike Hass making the roster cuts or not?

I have him in a dynasty and am trying to decide between picking up Brad Smith (i like him a little better at this point dynasty-wise) or keeping Hass.

Thanks and Ill listen to your answers off the air!

with only horn, coltson and henderson locked up as WR's, your guess is as good as anyone's. i think he will because he has shown flashes. he'll see limited playing time though.

That is kind of what I figured. Either sit and wait with him, or sit and wait with Brad or another sleeper if I can think of one...

I would take Smith over Hass in dynasty formats right now.

Is this because of long term potential or is it because Hass is so low on the depth chart/ basically shown nothing to this point? Smith has at least made some plays in the preseason.Lol, I guess I just answered my own question. I just had an initial dynasty draft (10 team, IDP) and I got some young talented starters but need some depth for a year or two from now AND I need some bye week filler material. Im thinking Hass might be 2 years away still and could grab him later if I keep my eye on the situation.

I was very high on Hass coming into the preseason, with NO's uncertain WR situation (Horn's age, Stallworth's issues with Payton, Henderson's suckitude) - he seemed like the perfect guy for the situation - sticky hands, great routes, physical - very very polished for a rookie WR, at least based on what he did at Oregon St. He has failed to seize this opportunity, instead Marques Colston has been the rookie to step in and earn a role from day one. Brad Smith, while far from being a true WR, has made the first steps and shown that he can develop into a playmaking WR. He has more upside than any WR on NYJ's roster, and the recent success of QB to WR converts makes me give these guys the benefit of the doubt until they give me a reason not to. Smith has a great frame for a WR, he's a deadly open field runner, and is a rugged player that can handle physical play from DBs. I'll take Smith's upside over Hass's reliability, because Hass's polished skills have not even assured him of a roster spot, while the Jets seem pretty excited about Smith's future already.

He was a college walk on?
walked on at Oregon State, set every record for WR at that school, led the Pac-10 in recieving, set numerous pac-10 records, was named best WR in the NCAA last year (I forget the name of the award). Having watched him every game he played, can tell you that anything and I mean anything close to him he catches. He was never the fastest guy on the field, but he was always open and never dropped balls.
