Pretty huge loss for The Boston Globe. Reiss is by far the best source of Patriots information on the web. If they put his stuff on Insider, I might even consider paying for it.

Between Reiss, Bill Simmons, Peter Gammons, and Michael Smith, ESPN has plucked quite a bit of talent from the local Boston sports media scene. It's being said that they're not done yet, either. It will be interesting to see who else they go after. Kevin Paul Dupont and Bob Ryan are at the top of their respective professions, and I know Gerry Callahan (Boston Herald) also has a strong readership. Chad Finn's blog is also always worth a read.

Interesting.

The Globe losing Reiss is huge indeed. He's top-notch. Tremendously reliable source.

I'm a little shocked... wow.

I wonder if he'll do radio spots on 890. They could use him during the afternoon show especially with 98.5 getting in the ring.

I would venture to say that with their recent hirings (Adam Schefter included), ESPN has recognized their shortcomings and are in an all out effort to re-establish themselves as the worldwide leader in sports. At least from an NFL perspective. This is a continuation of aggressive moves.

The Globe staff recently had to all take a decent pay cut, so this really should not be all that surprising.

There isn't a voice on EEI worth listening to save for the occasional Paul Perillo appearance.

Reiss is now working for ESPN so he probably won't be allowed to go on 98.5.

Very aggressive moves by ESPN...their local angle makes a ton of sense. As for Reiss he's great at gathering info...that's his expertise. As for actual football knowledge he's nothing special as I don't look to him to provide info outside of the stat sheet or transaction/rumor area.

As for the Globe this is a big loss. Reiss did an excellent job on his blog. Overall the Globe is a dying franchise and deservedly so (due to many areas outside of sports). As for their sports section outside of Dupont on hockey they really don't have much to offer and could really use some new blood that can pump some life into a sports section that is a little too arrogant and in many ways still operating like it's the 1990's.

ESPNBoston ... that has to be a joke right???

How much MORE focused could ESPN get on Boston?!?!
