Mike Thomas JAX WR (1 Viewer)

This guy seems to be getting better each week and is very versatile. Playing WR, RB, PR and KR. Homers, what are your thoughts?

He's the best kept secret in the league. I got to see him play in college and he can do everything. Think Percy Harvin, but better. With less hype. Runs good routes and can cut on a dime. Best hands that I've seen in a long time. He's a little short, but very stocky (I think he's 5'8" and 200lbs) like Steve Smith. Torry Holt is doing very much this year and I think that it's just a matter of time before Thomas makes his way on to the field (either from a Holt benching or a Walker injury). When he does crack the starting lineup, he'll be there for years.

He's a nice weapon that the Jags want to get the ball to. He made a huge difference yesterday, esp. in the return game.I think it's hard to tell exactly what he'll be for for fantasy purposes though (this year with Holt there). He's not the typical WR. He's short and sort of thick. For the Jags, I know he'll be a great returner, nice for the screens, and some reverses. I don't know if there's alot of fantasy value in that though. I'm sure his role will grow over time and the Jags seem determined to use him. I'm sure he'll have some nice value down the line somehow.I was surprised at how determined they were to get him the ball yesterday.

Has good hands, excellent playing speed, works hard and is one of those rare guys that can easily make a tackler miss in the open field. And I mean miss, like they don't even touch him. Since he doesn't have the traditional build of a WR, he might not be fantasy relevant right now, but the Jags are looking to get the ball in his hands. I think the Percy Harvin comparison is fairly accurate except that Harvin is stronger and Thomas is a more polished WR at this point.

Big fan of Thomas, had him ranked just outside the top 12 rookies.

He has tremendous athleticism, and good speed. He's strong and thick. He's a good route runner that has an immediate burst and is quick enough to get tons of separation, and is a home run threat because of his agility, body control, and RAC talents. He's tough. He's known for being a hard worker and having good hands, which also helps.

However, he's also very short. He's 5'8, and that's generous. People have been comparing him to Harvin, but Harvin has three inches on him; I'd say a more apt comparison would be Wes Welker and Steve Smith, who have similar builds. Thomas is as good as, or better, an athlete than both. It's not a matter of physical talent..it's how Jacksonville uses him and whether or not his tremendous separation abilities translate well to the NFL. I've been in the camp that believes he can turn into a stud, and it's certainly promising so far, as they're making an effort to get him involved in the offense. He had a couple of runs and one target in Week 3, then three runs and five targets in Week 4. Remember, he was hurt for most of the preseason, so he's had to play catchup.

While I can't see Garrard passing 35+ times every week, I think that Thomas could really carve a nice niche for himself by the end of this year.

I usually don't comment on players that I have on my team (to avoid bias on my part), but Thomas is a special talent. With his 4.3 speed and the Jags getting him the ball more often each week, now, it's just a matter of time before he explodes.
