The Falcons understand that Vick will be a distraction. THey did not want the distraction to build as the readied for training camp. They also probably wanted to eat cap space this year, and did not want to wait until a trade or reinstatement of Vick. Timing was right.Vick now can use a year in the UFL to hone his skills. Look for a team to let the initial PR hit be taken by the UFL and then to sign him to an incentive laden deal that allows the team to get out cheap if it gets too hot on the PR front.I'm going to speculate the following:#1: Atlanta contacted every team inquiring if there was interest in Vick.#2: Some teams possibly had interest but in a tight economy, none wanted the potential PR backlash of a Vick signing at this point in time. The risk of trading for Vick exceeds the potential reward.#3: Recognizing Vick has no value to the organization...the Falcons release Vick. #4: The release has nothing to do with Ryan (and a potential injury) and everything to do with closing the book on a terrible chapter in the organization's history. For the first time in a long time the Falcons can start the season without the distraction of Mick Vick "what-ifs." Very smart.Personally I wish Mike Vick the best...I hope he redeems himself...he was fun to watch.
I would love to see the guy come in for some Wildcat formations. Actually, with our WR's I would line him up as a slot guy on some plays. Imagine him on an end around. He has the speed to make a first down and the arm to gun it down field (from either hand). Very dangerous. Oh, and make him return kicks. I would buy tickets just to see that...
True and find out if he'll suffer more suspension.Slow down fellows. He still needs to be reinstated by the Commish.
For some reason I have feeling Goodell is going to reinstate him with no further penalty or suspension IF he does what he's supposed to now. (therapy, classes, charity, whatever)Suffer? Probably could have used a better word there.money.never.sleeps said:True and find out if he'll suffer more suspension.perry147 said:Slow down fellows. Parsing of words. It's certainly not a benefit for Vick.Suffer? Blank and the Falcons realized it long ago. But just like in drafting you wait until the clock is about to run out before playing your card or picking in case someone wants to make a deal. Atlanta and Dimitroff were cap tight this year with free agents in anticipation of this event...money.never.sleeps said:glad Arthur Blank realized no one was going to give up anything for this guy and now he can go about trying to see where he's (Vick) at in the minds of NFL GM's or some other league.
I saw something where he is right handed but throws left (or vice versa) but he can actually throw the ball with both hands. They showed him playing catch with his little brother and using either hand to chuck perfect spirals something like 20 yards. I didn't see him throwing bombs with his off hand but he was perfect with it from 20Really?TheFanatic said:I would love to see the guy come in for some Wildcat formations. I think I remember reading some ESPN article awhile back about Vick throwing it through a basketball hoop from half court lefty and righty. I'm not positive though and I don't know the extent of his ability to throw with his right hand.Really?TheFanatic said:I would love to see the guy come in for some Wildcat formations. It was always scary to me if he ever really got serious and practiced as much as just an average NFL player, what he might become. Lazy may not be the word, but he was always last one in the locker room and first to leave and no off season practice with his wr's like many qb's have....Just got done watching NFL Live (I know, I shouldn't get worked up about ESPN junk but...) and I don't know how they can say that Michael Vick is perfect for the Wildcat?!?! He is a QB that can run if the plays break down, that is what makes him dangerous. His arm is unbelievable. If he is in the shotgun, he is a QB that can run like a RB, that doesn't make it the Wildcat formation. He is a dangerous, multi-dimensional QB not a RB/WR that can run the Wildcat.Ok...rant over.
lol perfect within 20? He's never been perfect from 20. Vick couldn't hit water throwing from a boat.I saw something where he is right handed but throws left (or vice versa) but he can actually throw the ball with both hands. Vick throws perfect spirals out of the hand. Has nothing to do with accuracy. He's also got a deeper throw than any QB in the league, and he does it with a flick of the wrist. I've got a game on DVD where he flicks one into the endzone against the Cards from his own 30 - of course Roddy drops it.lol perfect within 20? He's never been perfect from 20.
