Miles Austin/MSW-Breakout Caged Match (1 Viewer)

i haven't seen MSW nearly as much, and am very interested in comparisons.

i have already said about as much as i can about austin for now in the separate thread, but encourage insights from others on him as well.

certainly factor in existing situation and likely near-term opportunity in the evaluation. but also, a breakdown of intrinsic talent and skill set differences would be appreciated. both of them could be with different teams in the future (i don't expect this any time soon, but hypothetically).

right now i'd rather have austin, but it could be pretty close, and i wouldn't be surprised at all to see MSW garner his share of advocates, and austin his share of detractors.

i think BOTH are SOLID wr3's. Although they numbers of late suggest borderline wr1.

Both could have been claimed off waivers meaning they could actually be your wr5. (my case)

But if i had to choose one i would go with Austin. Although the situations are very similar as MSW is now JAX wr1.

I just prefer Romo throwing to Austin than Garrard throwing to MSW.....thats all i got on a difference on them & potential.

If these guys are even close with their respective QB's throwing to them, imagine how good MSW would be if the situation were reversed.

that is one important line of questioning... how close are they, such as they are now?

if they both manage to maintain some semblance of their first half production over the course of the remainder of the season...

where would austin and MSW be ranked to start NEXT season?

* for more austin ammo, though he has had some relatively more minor issues with staying healthy of his own before this season, i suppose he doesn't have nearly as checkered an injury history as MSW. i realize it is a dark art and usually doomed to failure to try and predict injuries, but he has had multiple knee surgeries, i think (?).

obvious parallels...

both tremendous athletes with previously untapped talent, both having been unable to sustain momentum in the past.

entered this season with a lot of buzz, only to anticlimactically stumble early.

when given the opportunity, redeemed themselves massively.

I put my money on MSW. It seems like Austin only had to out play Crayton for the past few years and did not do this until now. MSW just needed to stay healthy in order to get into the lineup and produce at a high level.

I think MSW is slightly more talented, but I like both pretty similarly.

I don't know why Garrard throwing to MSW would downgrade him for dynasty purposes. Garrard is a decent QB and, more importantly, loves MSW.

The one fear for MSW for dynasty purposes is if the Jags get desperate and draft Tim Tebow. Then MSW is screwed.

Folks saying MSW ... NO!

Austin got his first chance to really shine vs Kansas City and BLEW UP. he has scored every game since. After the catch I don't think their is a more dangerous WR in football! MSW is great but IMO Austin will be elite shortly.

Right. That's because Austin played at Monmouth, not exactly a hotbed of NFL talent that will really prepare someone for the next level. He was a super talented guy that took time to develop because of that. Hard to knock him for that fact.

I was it mentioned this week how Austin was seeing his first dose of double coverage.

What kind of treatment has Sims-Walker been given by opposing D's? Is he still flying below the radar?

MSW was shut down by Cortland Finnegan in the Tenn game. In general teams will play the run first.MSW is very similar to his UCF bro Brandon Marshall. I think his PPR upside is through the roof. The main worry for me is his injury history.Austin is very similar to Jennings. I don't think he can be a PPR stud long term, but he is (and can continue to be) one of the best big play threats in the league and rack up TDs. He would be well served to have a better WR opposite him if he's going to be great long term.

Can you expand on that, because I'm not really following you. These guys are almost identical in size. Walker blazed his 40 times, while Austin wasn't slow (4.47) but didn't quite hit Sims-Walker numbers. Yet you seem to be implying that all Austin can do is streak down the field. I've seen no reason to believe Austin can't become the focal point of the passing game in Dallas.
