Miles vs Asomugha (1 Viewer)

I know everyone is tired of the Asomugha vs _______ thread, but I'm wondering the Shark Pool's opinion of this Thursday.

It seems to me like Miles lines up mostly on the offensive left and doesn't move around that much. Does Asomugha line up on the defensive right which would line him up against Miles most of the day? I know Miles production hasn't been great lately, but it may be almost zero if this scenario is in effect. Any thoughts?

I'm benching Miles not because of Nmandi but because he's really been stinking it up the past few weeks. He's facing way too many double teams.

I don't want the police to get upset with this, but it's a Steve Smith (NY) vs Miles decision for me. Denver secondary is tough.

To me this is a no-brainer. Smith has been a WR1 for most of this season. Austin right now looks like a WR4. The way I view Austin right now is at best he's probably someone you should rank in the 35-40 range among WRs unless the matchup is a cakewalk (which this week's isn't). If you start him, you're almost entirely hoping for a big play that could come off busted coverage. That certainly could happen but that seems to be a pretty huge risk to take in Week 12. Austin is almost certainly sitting for me and the matchup has little to do with it. He simply isn't getting looks downfield and that's where his original value resided.

Smith hasn't been a WR1 lately. Nicks in the mix, Manningham, Boss and even a little Hixon lately.

Smith has caught 20 passes the past three games. Austin has caught 9.

Easy call for me but that's just my 2 cents.

I wonder if Roy Williams will have a good matchup vs Chris Johnson on the other side. If Awesome-one can shut down Miles, maybe there are table scraps worth a start on the other side for Roy.

I did just lose my game by the difference of Roy's zero point game against just about anyone on my bench. So I feeling the sting. :hot: But I may just keep Roy as my WR#3 in anticipation of a Thanksgiving breakout day.

You're probably right, I'm just in a TD heavy league. SS is not the TD threat Miles is. But the Miles trend is disturbing I agree.

Good info here which details where players line up on every snap of every game. This is an EXCELLENT fantasy football resource in my opinion.

Prior to this past week, the Cowboys had been moving Austin around and lining him up on both sides and in the slot. This week, he played almost exclusively on the right side of the field. Asomugha lines up almost exclusively on the defense's right side of the field. That is the offense's left side. So either way, it's looking like Williams could see more of Asomugha this week than Austin. If Dallas plays the way it did last week, Austin won't be matched up on Asomugha much at all.

Now whether he can do anything with the easier matchup is the question.

if that is the case than i'd consider Austin a top10 WR play this week.

That would be a big mistake.

If the above is really the case, why? Austin has been known to shred weak teams, and if Asomugha isn't on him......

Roy should have a decent game. He's simply not taken seriously by defenses and they will let him get his 5 catches as long it means not letting Miles beat them deep.

Even if Asomugha covers Roy, they are still going to double Austin on the other side. There's always the chance of busted coverage or Austin breaking tackles for a big TD, but it's still not a great play.

This doubling thing is overplayed. I havent seen the recent Dallas games but I'd be surprised if there was more than a bit of shading the safety over towards Austin, if that.

I don't see the Raiders doubling Austin. Branch normally plays in the box leaving Huff as a cover one deep safety so he can't really just shade one guy. Chris Johnson isn't a bad corner, has had some good games when I've seen him.

hard to say who will have a big day for the Cowboys. could be no one.

my gut tells me Roy. he's getting the targets.

The Raiders play man-to-man almost exclusively. Johnson will be lined up on Austin today. With that, Austin should win his share in this matchup.

Andy - You were right in the other thread, OAK played Miles man to man all day. Pretty ballsy and he made them pay.

Yep, that's just what they do. Roy Williams remarked about it after the game here-``That's Al Davis, man, that's been the Raiders since 1943,'' said Roy Williams, who scored on a six-yard pass from Tony Romo. ``It's man to man, we're bigger, stronger faster than you _ can you beat us. That's just how they've been forever.''

I bet Asomugha will be really proud of himself for shutting down Roy Williams today.
I saw Asomugha on Austin for most of the day.
Austin did a majority of his damage vs. Johnson.
You are correct Andy. I went back and watched the plays and after the first one that Austin caught, the rest occured on safeties and Johnson. Asomugha probably asked to be moved to Roy after he got beat the first time. Can't say as I blame him.
