"I hope this action signals loudly and clearly to producers, record companies and packagers that the academy cares deeply about this issue. I hope this revocation will make the industry think long and hard before anyone ever tries to pull something like this again."

Still brings chills, doesn't it? Only 2 sentences long, but it's the greatest speech ever written.

I was watching Ken Burns discuss this the other day, and he pointed out that in our polarized age, this is one of the few things that just about everyone can get behind. For instance, he is producing a short documentary on the 23rd anniversary, and among the readers of the speech are Bill O' Reilly and Rachel Maddow- hard to imagine them ever doing anything together, but for Milli Vanilli they are.

I don't care what anyone says or who sang...those goofy bass turds were entertaining with their high stepping chest bumping dances.

Erm, doesn't this still go on?

Also, if the Grammy was deserved for the music as opposed to the performers, then they should have given it to the actual performers.

Other than pretending to be the voices, they did nothing that most modern artists are doing today. These guys would have never lost their grammy if they were around now.

Milli Vanilli and teen dance clubs with soda & juice bars are responsible for several BJs I received back in the day. I had the earring, acid washed jeans, huge red shoelaces, and holy crap could I get down. The fly honeys could not resist my moves. Girl you know it's true.

One could go as far as saying that they were trendsetters, sadly born ahead of their time.

C&C Music Factory did something simiilar -- Zelma Davis appeared in the "Gonna Make You Sweat" video singing Martha Wash's lines, but Davis actually did sing other parts of the song in the studio. I think as long as the actual artist is credited in the liner notes, the Academy has no real beef.

and nowadays all pop singers lipsync and computers completely shape their voice.

Milli Vanilli were pioneers and were just before their time.

Ba, ba, ba, ba, baby Don't forget my number

They appear to have been mistaken about this part...

We all chastised Mill Vanilli for lip-sycing. Then we completely ignored the people who sung those hits. We did because they were not attractive. Milli Vanilli not the jackasses.

I declare today to be MILLI VANILLI DAY. The purpose of Milli Vanilli Day is to get the Academy to reverse their traveshamockery of justice and return the Grammy to Milli Vanilli.

Today I will be bumping Girl You Know It's True and Blame It On The Rain all day long and have printed a picture of them and posted it on my office door to bring attention to the cause.

Please help me celebrate Milli Vanilli Day and spread the word. The Grammy needs to be returned!

Happy Milli Vanilli Day!

Give back the Grammy!
Save it for the 25 year! Have you no respect for the Silver Anniversary?
This is important enough to take note every year. There are special plans in the works for the 25 year anniversary including a couple of parades.
Taking note is fine, but you cant give back the Grammy just yet.
How many more people need to die in vain before we give the Grammy back?

Rob has a good point:

I have to say something and be clear about it. When people say: "Well, you didn't sing on the record"... OK, cool. I didn't. But to be technical, when someone records in a studio and Auto-Tune does your job, it isn't you anymore. It could be anyone, because you're not doing it anymore, the machine is doing it. So, are you doing it? When it comes time to perform it live, you can't replicate it. So when people say 'You should sing on the record, man.' Well, yeah, but now technically a lot of the people who are singing on the record with Auto-Tune aren't doing their job.
