Minnesota Golden Gophers - Home Opener (1 Viewer)

My wife, kids (2 girls, aged 6 and 4) and I will be in Minneapolis the last week of August.  Just so happens the home opener for the Minnesota Gophers is that week.   I'd love to check out the game and the new(er) stadium for the first time.   Is there a family zone for the game?  Or am I at risk of subjecting my young kids to all things things great about college?

Pity bump.

Went a long time ago and it was pretty tame. It ain’t like you’re going to an Eagles game or something. Just stay out of the student section.

I can’t help with the kid’s section thing but I was there for an MLS game a few weeks ago and it was a great atmosphere outside the stadium. Great campus, lots of good stuff around.

I don’t think you’re going to have too much of a raging alcoholic thing going on at a Golden Gophers game.

Ya, I've taken my kids several times.  It is one of the tamest/lamest college atmospheres.  It's Minnesota after all.

Proceed with caution.

I was taken aback when I heard a fella scream "For crying out loud" after a broken tackle led to a TD.

Also, back in the Metrodome days, I witnessed a kid who couldn't have been more than 12-13 say "cripes" after a Laurence Maroney fumble.

People get real rowdy when things don't work out for the home team.

Haven't been to the new stadium, but have been to games in the baggie dome. I wouldn't get student section tickets, but most of the stadium should be as family friendly as a football stadium can be.
