Minnesota Play Calling (1 Viewer)

You've got one of the best weapons in the NFL in ADP and you only give him 12 carries, and only 3 carries in the second half?! Against the 26th ranked rushing defense?! Being a Green Bay fan I love watching the Vikings lose like that but as an ADP owner this really bothers me. Twice in the last three games he's had 13 or fewer carries. Hopefully Childress will pull his head out of his bum and realize that his team performs much better when a running game is established. Sure could use it in the Super Bowl next week...

Today you started to see the downside of Favre. It was pretty evident that Favre called an audible on every running play in the 3rd quarter. It was pretty infuriating as a Vikings fan for Peterson to touch the ball only twice on 5 consecutive drives.

That's what Chilly gets for trying to bench Lord Favre.

I'm pretty sure the reason Chilly wanted to bench Favre was because he wasn't running any of the run plays that were called. There was a particularly heated display between Favre and Chilly after a stalled Vikings drive where Favre checked out to the pass 3 times, meaning the Vikes passed it on all 6 plays that drive. I have a feeling that the honeymoon may be over.

Exactly. You don't insult Brett Favre by trying to pull him with a 7-6 lead. He will show you who's running the team. :goodposting: btw, this has nothing to do with a 'decline of Favre' as the poster above seems to think. Not many have passed the ball well vs Carolina. Not Brady, not McNabb. Brees is about it. Freeman doesn't count because we now see what a flluke he was. A collection of game film exposed his inability.

Who said that? I think the post you are referring to he said "downside of Favre" meaning: he likes to call his own number more than anybody elses, regardless as to what the situation warrants. I also agree with many in the thread - for those questiosning the playcalling, don't question Chilly - see the "benching Favre" thread. It seems that many of those passes were originally called as runs and #4 changed the play.

Yeah, I remember the early days of Freeman's NFL career when we thought he was going to be good. Too bad he just could never live up to the hype.

Brad Childress is not a very good coach.

His offensive line is horrible at run blocking.

Calling running plays made no sense.

Good for Brett.

I know. You can't say the Bucs didn't give him a chance, though

Great Brett. That worked out quite well ... and leaves your team with no unnecessary new questionmarks ...
I wasn't serious about the "Good for Brett" part. But seriously folks. If you're a long time Vikings fan, you knew the wheels would fall off the wagon sooner or later, didn't you?The biggest question is "WTF Bryant McKinnie?"

It's just one loss, on the road, against a team that was 13-3 last year w/ a 1st round bye. We just beat the 3rd or 4th best team in the AFC last week 30-10. Not going to get too upset, but will pray for a bye since we have no shot at winning more than 1 consecutive road game.

We are seeing a huge home/road dichotemy with Minnesota. In the M-Dome, they are the best team in the NFL. Take them out of the building, and they might be the 18th best team in the NFL. Part of their lofty record is the weak opposition they've faced.

If Chicago shows any fire at all next week it could be interesting. Especially if they can produce a pass rush and get to Favre. It would be interesting to see how Favre would do with that rush and the weather he'll face in Chicago.

Favre USED to be great in sub 35 degee weather. Now he hates it. In late 2007, GB came to Soldier Field and played in extremely windy and cold conditions. That season, GB would be 13-3 and get to the NFC champ game. But that day in Soldier Field, Favre was AWFUL as the Bears destroyed GB something like 35-7. But one problem; this Bears team is real bad and may have quit. Looks like Lovie is a lame duck and will get booted.

Its becoming more apparent that the Vikings are the NFL's answer to the Chicago Cubs. Doesn't matter how much talent they have or money they spend. In the end, they'll find a way to lose. Still can't believe that 1998 team lost at home to Atlanta.

He didn't look much better in the NFC Championship game at home vs. the Giants either.

As good has Harvin has been, and as glad as I am that he's on the team, they should have taken Oher instead to replace that POS McKinnie.

If they had drafted Oher in the 1st, I wonder if they still would have taken Loadholt in the 2nd. (Maybe he would have been gone then...) That would be a nice tackle tandem to have and could have put ADP's dynasty value through the roof.

I was hoping for Oher at that spot, most thought he would go in the top 1/2 of the draft. I have been very happy with Percy, but this migraine thing worries me as well as his penchant for taking big hits. At this point the question is, is Harvin+Loadholt > Oher+?. Not sure who we would have taken in round 2 as the WR talent seemed to have dropped off by that point.

They need to return to the outdoors. It would be instant mega home field advantage.

The Minnesota run play calling has been so predictable it's absurd. They constantly keep running ADP up the middle when other teams are just clogging it up. No variety. No originality. No attempt to get him into space. No screen passes. That's fine when your O-line can manhandle opposing D-lines but that simply isn't happening anymore. It's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. The fact that AP has done anything at all this year is miraculous.

Nobody cares.
Not only does no one care, but that admission completely invalidates any opinion on playcalling as just an extended  whine
I fail to see how this invalidates a statement about a football game. Because I roster a specific player, I am incapable of reporting on what I've seen in a game. Would my original statement be any more or less correct if I didn't have him on my squad?

So true. They need to run more plays to get Peterson the ball out in space. Overall he's gotten more receptions this year than any other, but when the run game's not working you need to find other ways to make the best use of your top weapon.
