Can somebody PLEASE make heads or tails out of this LB situation? I was just getting set to FINALLY unload Napoleon Harris and I see this blurb from KFFL.

Vikings | Two to battle at middle linebackerFri, 7 Jul 2006 19:42:11 -0700Kevin Seifert, writing for the Sporting News, reports Minnesota Vikings LB E.J. Henderson will compete with LB Napoleon Harris for the starting middle linebacker job during training camp. Henderson appears to have the slight edge heading into camp.
And this one that I'd missed before.
Vikings | Harris got the most time at middle linebackerMon, 26 Jun 2006 08:08:56 -0700Mike Wobschall, of Vikings.com, reports Minnesota Vikings LB Napoleon Harris has seen the most reps at starting middle linebacker through the team's minicamps heading into his training camp competition with LB Dontarrious Thomas for the starting job.
I also have DT on my squad...so do I hold onto them both until the season starts or do I hold onto them thru the season in case things change again or am I just wasting my time hoping that either will ever be a productive LB?

Clear as mud, this is. Should find out who wins this job fairly early in camp, but since none of the three have stood out to date, it's hard to be confident that the one who wins the job out of camp stays the starter all season long. Many of the FBG staff addressed this question during our team interview a couple of weeks back. The posts begin here within that thread.

If it makes any difference, Sirius NFL Radio had Ben Leber on for an interview and he said Napoleon Harris was getting the reps at MLB.

The last I heard, it sounds like the following...

WLB: Greenway, Henderson

MLB: Henderson, Harris, Thomas

SLB: Leber, Harris

This one likely remains unclear until late in the preseason, unless an injury determines the depth chart. Methinks if you have someone willing to take Napoleon Harris off your roster do the deal regardless.

The coaches are teaching all 3 spots to all the LBs, nothing is set in stone. But look at it this way, Greenway and Leber are the only guys hand-picked for this defense. Leaving EJ Henderson, Napolean Harris, and Dontarrious Thomas fighting for the middle. EJ Henderson seems like the best bet, but the C2 scheme drops the MLB so far back for pass protection, that might be a better task for Napolean Harris.

Now if Greenway isn't ready, then it becomes interesting weither EJ is in the middle or weak.

But realistically, the Vikes will prob have packages using all these guys

Vikings | Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup

Thu, 13 Jul 2006 21:01:44 -0700

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeff Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings rookie LB Chad Greenway will be used by Vikings at weakside linebacker. He likely will open training camp as backup to LB E.J. Henderson, but could assume starting role if Henderson is moved to middle.

Does this mean that Greenway didn't show enough in the mini-camps and OTA to get the coaches to give him the greenlight? Slow transistion to NFL or maybe talent over assessment?
