Missing Malaysian jet news (2 Viewers)

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/malaysia-airlines-plane-vanishes-over-south-china-sea/2014/03/08/97b1eb4a-a69f-11e3-bf3d-63f593e487a9_story.html

It does look more like terrorism at this stage... Possibly 4 with false identifications on board.

If the cockpit has reinforced doors & the only way to open the main cabin is from the exterior, how would they bring a plane down outside of a bomb (assuming terrorism)?

ETA: The plane may have changed course too, which is just another element here.

From CNN...

Two people who traveled on the missing passenger jet, using the stolen passports of an Italian and an Austrian citizen, appear to have bought their tickets together.

The tickets were bought from China Southern Airlines in Thailand's baht currency at identical prices, according to China's official e-ticket verification system Travelsky. The ticket numbers are contiguous, which indicates the tickets were issued together.

Here's where the mystery deepens: Italy and Austria have said that none of their citizens were on board the plane. And officials say the Italian and Austrian whose names were on the passenger manifest both had their passports stolen in Southeast Asia in recent years.

The two tickets booked with China Southern Airlines both start in Kuala Lumpur, flying to Beijing, and then onward to Amsterdam. The Italian passport's ticket continues to Copenhagen, the Austrian's to Frankfurt.

Authorities say they are investigating the identities of some of those on board who appear to have issues with their passports.

Just because they have reinforced doors does not mean it is impossible to get in. I have been on international flights where they are lax and there are opportunities to rush the cabin when people go in and out.

Is it OK to question why they aren't searching under water from where these oil slicks were discovered? I don't get it, seems like a dead giveaway where it went down, no?
Think this one through a bit.
Maybe he hasn't heard about ocean currents.
They found a door and part of the plane tail not far from the oil...you all might want to try some of the internet news blogs in Asia instead of getting all your news in here from other fellow ignoramuses like Cliff.

I am just kind of surprised passenger lists are not checked against list of stolen or lost passports. Seems like an easy check that would have been obvious in this day and age of terrorist attacks.

They are too busy strip searching 80 year old marge while letting Abdullah walk through. Don't want to "offend" anyone ya know....

Read a couple of reports where Interpol says nobody checked the passports against their database. If they had, they would have shown they were lost/stolen.

You're so right:

Tàu bay của Cảnh sát biển báo về đã tìm thấy một mảnh vỡ nghi là của máy bay. Tàu biển của Việt Nam đang tiến gần đến vị trí có miếng composit và thanh bằng ngang được cho là của máy bay bị nạn.

The travel routes of the two passports are typical for illegal immigrants, drug smuggling, or Heisenberg and Jesse getting a new life. Still no concrete evident of terrorism so far.

Yeah, I don't think some people posting, if for real, don't understand the prevalence of theft in that area of the world. Add in the amount of people and thievery is rampant. Stolen passports is a crime like jaywalking here is. I'm surprised it is only two.Terrorism? No evidence points to that at all.

Fox News treating this as a terrorist attack, wonderful.
FOX should not jump to conclusions. I hope they are fact checking the manifest itself.
Clearly FOX is not doing its job because the manifest has a bad passport number.

The Chinese police said one of the persons listed did not board the ill-fated Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on Friday. The person, a resident of Fujian Province in east China, has no departure record and is still in Fujian, Chinese police said today. The passport owner's name does not match the name provided by Malaysia Airlines, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The owner said the passport has never been lost or stolen.

So you think the average flight that flies that particular route has more than two stolen passports on it?

Other than the fact that a 777-200 fell out of the sky.

I don't think the average is above two however in not surprised by it nor will I point the finger at terrorism because of it.

I have never in my life done a study of the average passport thefts that occur on Malaysian airlines. However I would assume this is a rare thing. That coupled with an airplane instantly disappearing make terrorism look very possible. And what is the big deal about "pointing a finger at terrorism"? Why is that so bad? It seems like a very reasonable possibility.

I would like to say its rare too but over there its not. How many people are in that area? How many people fly in that area? What is the percentage of people having a passport? These answers far outweigh a typical American. You have to adjust your mindset. Low standard of living equates to more theft and there is plenty of it there.

To come to a conclusion of terrorism right away is not doing due diligence. For what reason would terrorism be looked at right away in that area? Just because a plane goes down, as if it was America, doesn't point to terrorism. Its a dumb conclusion to come up with. Someone would have taken credit for it by now.

Pilot error, turbulence, loss of cabin pressure and others are much more plausible than terrorism.

How can the three things you mentioned be plausible when there was no distress messages from the pilots?

If there was turbulence in the area, it would have been known. Pilots often announce after takeoff whether the flight is expected to run into turbulence. I don't see any of the things you listed as more plausible than terrorism. Terrorism is very much on the table and is probably what most of the investigation is looking into. Are they dumb to be looking into that? It seems like a hot topic is the possibility the plane was turning around to head back.

And don't forget snakes.....

And possible alien abduction.

or Ninjas--they got on the plane with fake passports, disabled the plane and parachuted to safety.

Deathly Parachuting Terrorist Con Artist Ninjas is probably the right call here.

I think the average flight is more likely to have two stolen passports than two terrorists (or even one).

Yeah, there are industry people saying that it's not the least bit unusual for an international flight to have two stolen passports on it.

& two people with random stolen passports buying tickets together to separate end destinations

Maybe we should just drop MoP in the water near the oil slick and he can float around calling out "Marco!" to help search for survivors.

:goodposting: All of the above would happen before a terrorist bomb in this area of the world.

This is called an "upgrade" to the search and rescue efforts currently going on. Tuna fisherman would not be happy with this though.

The last commercial airline flight which crashed due to turbulence was 1966. Turbulence did contribute to an AirFrance crash in 2009, but that was more because the pilot error in trying to maneuver around and miss the turbulence. Aircraft have been design has advanced quite a bit since 1966.
