MJD a good value pick? (1 Viewer)

I continuously see MJD going in the 8th or 9th round in drafts. He's locked in as the starter and could return low-end RB2 or good flex value. Thoughts?

I can get on board with this. This Oakland backfield is very underrated. Check out what Jennings did to end last season

I am confident that not only will MJD bounce back this season, but I expect him to be a solid number two rather than a borderline flex option. Just look what a mediocre rd like Jennings did last season in Oakland and the situation in Oakland has improved.

MJD is still not 30 years old + he is healthy now. An elite rb on bad teams only a few years back MJD is going to be a steal at his current adp. I would take him in the 6th rnd and perhaps as early as the 5th rnd.

Still a RBBC, yes? I guess I have a hard time getting on board a RBBC on a bad team with poor QB play. This isn't Detroit with a high powered offense coupled with a pourous D, which allows DET to support a RBBC that can produce two RB2's. It just smells RB3 for both MJD and DMac, which sure can be great for Flex. Now if there is an injury then the healthy guy should easily be a RB2.

Am I off track here?

I don't see it as a true rbbc. What has Darren McFadden ever done to warrant an equal share of the carries? McFadden lost his job last year to journeyman Rashard Jennings. There is no way he holds off a healthy MJD.

As for qb play I would agree with you if Schaub is the starting qb, but after this preseason I have a hard time seeing him as the man in Oakland. I think the qb play will be good enough to make MJD a viable option.

1600 total yards and 10 tds while playing in a committee in 2010

This situation, getting 35-60% of the touches depending on game script/flow, is ideal for McFadden's efficiency. Although not necessarily an ideal fantasy scenario.

The combined rushing and receiving numbers out of the OAK and DET backfields last year were just about identical in terms of touches, yards, and TD's.

The major difference was the OAK's were spread around a bit more. That should change with a lot fewer runs coming from the QB position this year, and you could certainly argue that the overall numbers could suffer because some of Pryor's yards were designed passing plays that broke down and turned into rushing yards -- something we won't see much with Schaub or Carr. But then, the team as a whole should be better this year. So that may offset it a bit. All in all, though, I'd say they can support a solid fantasy contributor or two in the run game.

The other big difference, of course, was the presence of Reese as a third option out of the RB stable in OAK. But then, you've got that potentially happening in DET as well now. So again...

Anyway, yeah, I like MJD as a mid round steal. And I think those who doubt his chances of making it as a RB2 are bananas. I think he's got an outside chance at finishing as an RB1 in that O.

Really?

MJD is an excellent buy low target going into drafts and auctions this year. Old RB and Raider biases in full effect with him right now. He could be a dollar diamond this year if he stays healthy. Like others have already mentioned, if Rashad Jennings could do it in Oakland...

Derek Carr might make the Oakland pie big enough that MJD, McFadden, Rivera and a WR (Moore?) are FF relevant every week.
