Report: Percy Harvin had cortisone injection in hip over the weekend

Posted by Josh Alper on December 2, 2013, 11:18 AM EST

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll didn’t officially rule wide receiver Percy Harvin out of Monday night’s game over the weekend, but he talked about Harvin as if he’d already concluded that the receiver would have to sit because of his injured hip.

Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that Harvin, who is listed as doubtful, went to see doctors this weekend to have the hip examined and that he had a cortisone injection in an attempt to calm things down in the hip. It’s the second time that Harvin’s hip has flared up since he returned to practice October and he needed to have it drained the first time around.

All of which makes it almost certain that we won’t see Harvin against the Saints on Monday night in a game that can all but sew up home field in the playoffs for the Seahawks with a victory. It also means that his status for Week 14 against the 49ers is going to be up in the air until late this week as the Seahawks try to see if Harvin’s a player they can count on for anything this season.

At 10-1, the Seahawks can obviously handle things without Harvin in the lineup but it would make life easier to know what you’re getting rather than engage in weekly guessing games.

NFLN just said Harvin declared himself out.
Rotoworld take:

According to the NFL Network, Percy Harvin (hip) views himself as "out" for Monday night's game against the Saints.

The Seahawks are coming out of a bye and in a crucial matchup that could decide home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. Harvin's inability to play in this game speaks volumes. He's more than four months removed from hip surgery, but had to get a cortisone injection over the weekend and has had other complications during his comeback -- despite playing limited snaps in just one game. If fantasy owners get any help from Harvin over the next few weeks, it should be viewed as a bonus.

Rotoworld:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks could hold Percy Harvin (hip) out for the rest of the regular season in order for him to be ready for the playoffs.
The team is waiting to see how Harvin responds to this past weekend's cortisone injection. Seattle brass will reportedly meet Tuesday to make a decision. Harvin returned to play in one game after missing about four months as he recovered from hip surgery. It sounds like there's a real possibility Harvin may not play another down until the postseason; the Seahawks can clinch a playoff berth with a victory Monday night over the Saints. Harvin is inactive for the NFC showdown. We'll have another update on Harvin Tuesday. Owners that have been stashing Harvin can only hope for the best, but it appears it's going to be a lost year.

Officially inactive as per Rotoworld:

Seahawks declared RB Christine Michael, WR Percy Harvin, RCB Brandon Browner, OT Michael Bowie, OG Caylin Hauptmann, DE Benson Mayowa, and DT Jordan Hill inactive for Monday night's Week 13 game against the Saints.
Michael is the No. 3 running back but doesn't play special teams. Harvin is sidelined after suffering a setback with his hip. Browner has a groin injury.
