Here's my shot, based on what I think teams WILL do. It's my opinion that D-linemen, OT and CB are the most reached for 1st rounders, so I don't expect them to slide, and when deciding between a few players, I will lean to those positions.
1.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers2-14
Jameis Winston--Tampa is willing to take the chance that Winston will mature under Lovie, and take the more refined passer.
2.
Tennessee Titans2-14
Marcus Mariota--No trade down. No Leonard Williams. They take the QB with 4.5 speed and exciting upside. Ruston Webster and Ken Whisenhunt need this team to get better in order to maintain their jobs, and this team needs something exciting. Man, they're boring. Adding a D-lineman to eat blocks in front of Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo ain't the way to do it. I know: Whisenhunt won with Kurt Warner and wants a pocket QB and blah blah blah---come on now. Dig a little deeper. Ken Whisenhunt: first year with Steelers, Kordell Stewart threw for most yards in his career. First year as OC, rookie QB Ben Roethlisberger ran around all year, winning a Super Bowl. Whisenhunt's defining moment in that game? WR pass from Antwaan Randle-El to Hines Ward. If Whis cannot imagine winning games with Mariota, in a league where Cam Newton, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick are playoff QBs, then TEN needs a new coach.
3.
Jacksonville Jaguars3-13
Dante Fowler--David Caldwell and Gus Bradley can keep a secret. Blake Bortles surprised everyone last year, and they added some young WRs to play with. In free agency, they added Julius Thomas to the offense. Bradley is now tugging on Caldwell's shirt, and pointing at the all-important Leo position with a look of longing. I don't think Leo Williams is in play here. Sen'Derrick Marks was their best defender last year, they re-signed Alualu, and added Jared Odrick. This team needs a Leo and an Otto. In FA, they added JT Thomas and Dan Skuta to the re-signed Posluzney and Telvin Smith. They might help at Otto, but not at Leo. Fowler's extra 30 pounds gives him the spot over Beasley, and clean piss test over Gregory.
4.
Oakland Raiders3-13
Leonard Williams--Reggie and Del Rio want to get bigger and meaner on defense. Carr needs some toys, it's true. But there's a much better chance of getting a WR that contributes in the 2nd round than there is getting a 300 pound dancing bear for the D-line. Reggie learned in Green Bay, you can get WRs later. Williams in an easy decision over Cooper. Give Reggie a choice between DL and WR in the 1st round, and he goes DL every time.
5.
Washington Redskins4-12
Vic Beasley--I am not going to predict trades, but if I was, this would be the spot. New GM Scott McCloughan is a proponent of the build throught the draft philosophy, and I could see a trade down with the Dolphins, and hoping Gregory slid that far. Makes a lot of sense to me. If they stay put, the Skins add some speed to the defense, and Beasley has a devastating 1st step. He's probably a bit lighter than the Skins would like, but he is a much better pass rusher, right now, than Dupree or Ray.
6.
New York Jets4-12
Amari Cooper--Completely new group running this team. Let's see: Mike Mccagnan is the GM, Todd Bowles is the HC, and Chan Gailey is the OC. I almost went Bud Dupree here, and would love to see what Bowles could do with this guy. But Bowles put a great defense together last year with no linebackers and a bunch of safeties, I think he feels confident in his ability to generate a pass rush with some spare parts. This might be a case of BPA, and getting Gailey and Geno Smith the best chance to succeed. Not sure how much Marshall has left, and the new regime gets a nice, safe pick at #6.
7.
Chicago Bears5-11
Danny Shelton--I could see this in a trade down. Had a tough time with this pick. I don't believe 3-4 NTs are worth a top 10 pick, but Shelton is a special one. If someone wanted to make a case for White or Dupree, I wouldn't argue. There are other NT-types out there, but the drop off from Shelton is big. The team added a lot of pieces on defense, and expect to produce pass rush in some form from McPhee, Allen, and Houston. Dupree is a projection as a pass rusher, moreso than an actually good pass rusher, and I believe the team likes Jeffrey, Wilson, Royal and Bennett as receivers.
8.
Atlanta Falcons6-10
Alvin 'Bud' Dupree--The Falcons run a 4-3, and right now, their starting DEs would be Adrian Clayborn and Tyson Jackson. I mean....yeeesh. Dupree has the size for DE in this scheme, and Dimitroff needs to get the defense some help. Adding Clayborn and O'Brien Schofield ain't gonna get it done. Look out for Gregory or Todd Gurley here, as well. Dupree is a clean prospect as well, character through the roof.
9.
New York Giants6-10
Todd Gurley--That's right, that just happened. It's going to take a stable team to take Gurley, in case he's not ready to go week 1, and the Giants are the most stable front office/ownership in the league. Adding a talent to the team like Gurley could have as big an impact in the next four years as any player in this draft, and the Giants are in their window. This team may have as sorry an offensive backfield as anyone in the league, and I am shocked I haven't seen this pick mocked a lot before.
10.
St. Louis Rams6-10
Kevin White--The Rams have a lot of pieces in place, and I think they could call to see about Mariota. Assuming they stay put, a top WR is still a need. They have a strong defense, and added more to it with Fairley and Ayers. It has to be offense here. The o-line run is gonna start here somewhere, and the Rams have a need at RT, but could still re-sign Barksdale. Kevin White still being there makes the difference.
11.
Minnesota Vikings7-9
Brandon Sherff--The Vikes decide to help the young QB with the versatile Sherff. The team had a quiet offseason, but added Mike Wallace to the emerging Charles Johnson and Kyle Rudolph. Scherff can slide in at guard, and the Vikes aren't so sure he can't play LT, if Matt Kalil doesn't work out. Having their choice of the O-linemen, and gaining Sherff's polished game to help protect the young QB is an easy pick.
12.
Cleveland Browns7-9
Arik Armstead--The team is considering OL and maybe WR, but there are players to be had there at #19. There aren't any 3-4 DEs with Armstead's upside, aside from him. The team filled holes with Bowe, Hartline, and Housler. Breathtaking? Well, no. But neither are Des Bryant and Billy Wynn, the starting DEs. Character concerns are not an option for this team, so I didn't consider any red flags.
13.
New Orleans Saints7-9
Randy Gregory--This team needs a jolt. An improved pass rush is more important to a team looking to win now than anything else, and they take a chance on Gregory. There is a gaping hole across from Galette, and Gregory can platoon with Anthony Spencer and Parys Harylson. With Brees in the twilight, it's time to swing for the fences. Talent-wise, Gregory is all alone here.
14.
Miami Dolphins8-8
Breshard Perriman--The Dolphins, if you haven't been paying attention, are being run by a wild man. Stephen Ross is truly playing fantasy football with this team, and ran out and signed Suh and athletic concussion-about-to-happen Jordan Cameron. Hartline and Wallace were sent packing, leaving Jarvis Landry with about 200 targets coming his way. The more polished Parker is bypassed for the freaky Perriman. Perriman's Florida roots are not unnoticed by Ross.
15.
San Francisco 49ers8-8
Marcus Peters--I believe some team is going to take Peters as the #1 corner off the board, and feel that the character stuff is overblown. And it's going to be a team, coincidentally, with a crying need at corner. Enter the 49ers, who really don't need another headache, but corners are a premium in this league, and Peters' problems stem from emotion, not drugs or baby mama drama. Worth the risk here.
16.
Houston Texans9-7
Devante Parker--The Texans are happy to scoop up Parker, sliding Cecil Shorts to a more comfortable underneath role. They still need a QB and an ILB, but Parker is too tempting. By letting the draft come to them, the Texans come up big. They consider Kendricks here, but aren't sure about him taking on blocks in the 3-4 defense.
17.
San Diego Chargers9-7
Malcolm Brown--Chargers could go in a lot of different ways here. CB, WR, OT, RB, Edge rusher. By signing Franklin to play RG, they decide to keep Fluker at RT. Re-signed Flowers and drafted Verrett last year. RB can be had later. Brown is an unusual player, and putting him across from Liuget in the 3-4 creates some interesting problems for opponents.
18.
Kansas City Chiefs9-7
Trae Waynes--Chiefs scoop up the solid Waynes, adding him to Sean Smith and Phillip Gaines, who are nice, but not great. This is a nice player at a premium position sliding to them, and Reid pounces. Cam Erving also makes a lot of sense here.
19.
Cleveland Browns (from Buffalo)7-9
La'El Collins--Collins has some versatility, and the Browns could use him at RT or guard, depending. Mitchell Schwartz is in the final year of his deal. Best player left on their board. With Parker going earlier, the Browns decision is easy.
20.
Philadelphia Eagles10-6
Jalen Collins--A Collins from LSU goes back to back, and the Eagles take the SEC-tested Collins over the world long jump champ Byron Jones. Chip Kelly doesn't need superstars at WR or RB to run his team, but there's no hiding cornerbacks. They spent money on Maxwell, but you need several CBs these days, and Kelly will look for WRs later. The positional importance of CB overtakes safety, as the Eagles also consider Landon Collins and Damarious Randall.
21.
Cincinnati Bengals10-5-1
Cameron Erving--The Bengals could use pass rush, another WR, an OT, or a DT next to Atkins. Erving can start right away, and maybe replace Whitowrth at LT next year. I love this pick for them, personally. A very good center can positively affect the entire line, and by extension, the entire offense. Also considered Kendricks, Ray, and one of the OTs here.
22.
Pittsburgh Steelers11-5
Kevin Johnson--Sweet Jesus, does this team need some cornerbacks. They need some pass rush, and Ray's name is brought up, but the Steelers have a long histoey of finding OLB later in the draft. Steelers are happy to have the long-armed KJ available here, and while I may have the player wrong, I think that PIT will like a CB here. They are also tempted by the OTs still hanging out.
23.
Detroit Lions11-5
Andrus Peat--Lions have some weaknesses to address, and one could make a lot of arguments here. But they are pretty happy to grab Peat, who may be a LT in the NFL, but can definitely play RT. Well-coached and strong, with huge hands, he'll help the running game right away, which took a step back last year. They would love Erving here, and may even move up for him. Everyone says DT, but they have Ngata, and Tyrunn Walker will be a nice rotational piece.
24.
Arizona Cardinals11-5
Shane Ray--The slide ends. A one trick pony? Well, the Cards need that trick. Pass rush is a priority for the Cards, who lost the architect of their defense last year to the Jets. Ray will learn on the job, and the Cards will just ask him to relentlessly pursue the QB. The Cards could use a corner, and a MLB or three, but Ray is alone at the top of their wish list.
25.
Carolina Panthers7-8-1
DJ Humphries--Everyone is mocking an OT to Carolina, and I won't be contrarian for the sake of it. Humphries is more polished than Clemmings and Flowers, and could beat out Jonathan Martin and Michael Oher right now. Carolina could go O-line with their first two picks, and I would applaud. Only other players considered here were different OTs.
26.
Baltimore Ravens10-6
Nelson Agholor--I love trying to step into the mind of Ozzie Newsome. #1 GM in the NFL, IMO. A trade down seems possible, but classic Ozzie is letting the draft come to him. Does that mean Landon Collins? Ereck Flowers? Melvin Gordon? Maxx Williams? I have a feeling when he does pick, everyone will say, "Of course". Agholor has a lot in common with Amari Cooper, and one has to wonder if they were on opposite teams, where they'd be ranked.
27.
Dallas Cowboys12-4
Byron Jones--Melvin Gordon, you say? Please. What's the point of having that line if you can't have a great running game with some 3rd rounder running behind it? No way do the Cowboys take a RB over an athletic marvel like Jones. Brandon Carr is on the way out, and CB is really a desperate need here. Coners go fast, if Dallas doesn't get one here, they gonna be gone in the 2nd. Dallas would love Peters' red flags to cause him to drop to this spot.
28.
Denver Broncos12-4
Cedric Ogbuehi--Killed it at RT, not so much at LT. No problem, the Broncos have a LT. Clemmings and Flowers' rawness allows the late-rising Ogbuehi to slip into the first. Broncos are in win-now mode, and need to protect Peyton. The Broncos signed no O-linemen of consequence in FA, and this has to be a priority.
29.
Indianapolis Colts11-5
Ereck Flowers--The Colts still want to be a power running team. If Gosder Cherilus can hold up, Flowers can refine his pass pro for a year. If not, Flowers will start, and learn on the job. Almost went Damarious Randall here, but this first round might not contain a safety at all. They need pass rush, but that bone has been picked clean. An Eddie Goldman or Jordan Phillips also makes sense.
30.
Green Bay Packers12-4
Jordan Phillips--He is simply too tantalizing. Pack have needs at ILB, but Kedndricks doesn't fit, and too early for the other guys. Corner is a need, but a NT is a crying need for this team. Look out for Ronald Darby or Eric Rowe here as well.
31.
New Orleans Saints (from Seattle)7-9
Benadrick McKinney-I had tough time with this pick. Saints could go WR, OL, CB or NT here. But Payton has faith that he can scheme a passing game, and like a rotation of Bunkley and Jenkins. I could see Darby/Rowe/Williams at CB as well. Instead the Saints take a chance on the tantalizing talents of McKinney, who has the size to play ILB in the 3-4.
32.
New England Patriots12-4
Eric Rowe--Patriots lost Revis, Browner, and Wilfork, and Carl Davis or Goldman make sense here as well. Parcells loves the length and versatility of Rowe, and if he can't play CB, he will slide him next to McCourty at safety. Look out for Tomlinson/Randall/Odighizuwa as well.
Flame away, homers.
