**Monday Night Football - Giants at Steelers** (-6, 36.5) 8:15 (1 Viewer)

I went in down 18.2 points with Nabers/Pickens going tonight. THREE (!!!) TDs reversed/called back between the two and I lost by 2.2 points. I feel like I've been kicked in the d!ck.

Giants kept it interesting
But once again quarterback position held them back
I think Mara will give Schoen and Daboll another year
It was a very nice draft for The G-Men this year
Get a quarterback next year and give Daboll another shot

won 2 of my 3 matchups vs Nabers last night, would have won all 3 had the Pickens TDs stood.

If a WR catches a ball and hops on one foot for 10-15 yards cause he broke the other ankle or something, it still isnt a catch?

Why would they go for 2?
Trying to understand the logic on this. Down 14 and you score a TD. Go for 2:

* get it and you are down 6 with a chance to win if you score another TD
* don't get it and you are down 8 and must get it to force OT if you score another TD

Trying to understand the analytics/logic of this vs just kicking the extra point twice to play for OT.

I didn’t understand it either.

Why? Schoen maybe gets another year. Not every move a GM makes will be right, although I'd argue the DJones contract was an overtly obvious mistake when it happened. Though one they will get out of fairly unscatched eating $23M. So maybe GM gets another shot at it. But I can't imagine getting a new QB and putting him in Daboll's hands.

John Mara has stated that Schoen and Daboll will be back next year. I think the problem lies with John. However, he won't lose his job. But if John did lose his job. Then you better believe the next guy coming in would fire Schoen and have the new GM pick his head coach.

Schoen and Daboll screwed the pooch when they resigned Daniel Jones. Then this pre-season they tried to distance themselves from their terrible decision. By inquiring on the Commander's 2nd pick of the draft.

Letting Barkley Walk a John Mara favorite player should cost Joe his job.

I think you just summarized the logic. By going for 2, you have a chance to win the game and regulation with 2 TDs. By kicking the extra point, you are guaranteeing a tie with 2 TDs and then the additional need to win the game in OT.

I know it was mentioned earlier in the thread. But Mike Tomlin is on the rules committee. He should know better that you can't challenge an already reviewed play. Also does he confer with anyone who has the potential to tell him Mike don't do it. lol

So the thought being, if going for 2 is roughly 50/50. If you don't get the 2 the first time, you would the 2nd time. Then you are the same as you would have been with 2 EPs. But if you happen to get it on the first 2pt try, then you are in a better position to win the game. Is that the logic?

Don't know if it is true or not, but in the press conf after he said he did not realize that it had been reviewed. This feels like a cya cop out, because the call on the field was TD and he should know that all TDs are auto reviewed.

Yup I think that’s it. I think most coaches go for 2 in that scenario now.

I understand letting Barkley walk, why sink money into the RB position for a team that isn't going anywhere with Jones at QB. The Giants FO knows they need an upgrade at QB. Until that happens, they're a rudderless ship. They didn't reach for one in last years draft which was smart, but Barkley really doesn't fit with the Giants grooming a new QB timeline. Barkley could theoretically help you win games, but why would you want to be 6-11 instead of 4-13, or worse. That's the difference between being the 6th pick and the 2nd pick, which is the difference between drafting a Shedeur Sanders/Cam Ward or drafting a Carson Beck.

Keep in mind year 1 of the Schoen/Daboll collaboration. The Giants exceeded expectations by making the playoffs. For me the bottom line is that Schoen/Daboll threw bad money at sub par QB. Then came up with every lame excess or comment as to why they wouldn't resign Barkley. So as an Eagles fan you can thank the ineptitude of the Giants for letting a potential future hall of gamer walk right onto the Eagles roster. Giants also let Xavier walk. First year shouldn't be better than 2nd and third year. If the Schoen and Daboll mis evaluated Daniel Jones then why should they be given a second chance with a rookie QB in the upcoming draft.

But your logic is right in most cases. But the Giants management is rudderless and after watching hard knocks it was obvious.
