Montario Hardesty are you starting him? (2 Viewers)

Did anyone watch this game? Is Hardesty stealing the job here? The comments after the game are kind of cryptic. That many touches you would expect a bit more production.
the Hawks before and after browns yield the lowest YPC rushing for any defense in the league. the longest allowed rush is 21(best in league as well). they have the 3rd most rushing attempts against, so that YPC carry is even more impressive. so i don't know how much better the Great Hillis would have done.who knows if Hardesty steals the job but shurmer did say he's earned more carries. rotoworld speculates a 50/50 share if/when Hillis gets healthy

It was game with little offense against a tough run defense and Hardesty ran very hard. More than anything it's not that he did anything great it's that he did not screw up like he did the other two weeks he filled in for Hillis for all or most of a game.I think more than anything the current coaching staff is not a huge Hillis believer/backer and they continue to build up Hardesty while showing patience with him. Purely speculation on my part but reading between the lines I would think the current regime expects Hillis to be gone after this season and they want to know if they have their feature back in Hardesty.

I watch the whole game Hillis job is safe for this year. Hardesty is looking like a rookie to me (missed last year his rookie year with an knee issue) runs without patience and out of control. Hardestty is hitting the hole hard and not letting holes develop by his blockers (However, the Browns run blocking has not been good either). One of the only times Hardesty made it the secondary he was off balance and fell without anyone touching him. They did not throw to Hardesty has much, but targeted Ogbonnaya 5 times versus 2 targets for Hardesty. Hardesty drop passes have clearly concerned the coaches and the play calling reflects that.Shurmur showed a strong commitment to the run in a close game, which is good. Personally, I believe that Hillis might be a good buy low candidate for the rest of the season, because the Browns pass offense is regressing.

No, Cleveland schedule sucks when it really matters.

This is true. Having Balt weeks 12 and 16 is not good.

That's his absolute ceiling. If Hillis gets 100% healthy I would guess more of a 70/30 split.Remember, this means, at best, 30-50% of the carries on the Cleveland Browns with their schedule. These guys are not going to win you your FF championships, not this year.

Its solid speculation though and I tend to agree.I also look forward to watching Hardesty develop as a runner. I think he has some decent potential and hes being written off by some as "no good" because of some early drops and a low YPC

Purely off what we seen and I mean no disrespect to Hardesty on this but that guy can not catch, he's beyond horrible. I think pass protection can be learned so not worried about that but I honestly have never seen a coaching regime try to make a cake without dough. For some reason they think the light switch will turn on and he will catch routinely.... this is not going to happen and is turning the fan base against Shurmur in a hurry. Hardesty seems more suited as a runner but he had yet to step up in this regard, being proud of toting the rock 33 times with a meager 2.9 average is not a good thing.

Dont get me started on Hillis either, the guy had been a turd all season, taking crappy advice from a agent that should be fired. If the guy loves the city so much why not shut your trap and run with authority for the year and prove to the new head coach how moronic he is?

This team as a whole is not good, letting McCoy pass so much to just inept coaching and play calling. They really should out not gotten away from that ground and pound game they had last year, starting without hiring Shurmur.

Remember the Browns signed RB Brandon Jackson from the Packers this past offseason. That was the guy that probably fit the best in Shurmur's offense. He rushed for 703 yards last year and caught 43 balls. Unfortunately for the Browns, they lost him to a season ending injury in a preseason game: turf toe.

Between Peyton Hillis, Brandon Jackson, and Hardesty, they figured to have some good depth. Depth is only good until its tested. Jackson was lost for the year, Hillis has also been hurt and sick, Hardesty has played poorly and done nothing to take advantage of it. They had to scramble to sign Chris Ogbonnaya off the Texans' practice squad on October 17th, who was plugged IMMEDIATELY as McCoy's safety valve because they have no-one else. Of course the question is how much McCoy will trust Oggie as a safety valve and if it will help him focus on his job.
