More steroid fallout? (1 Viewer)

(Rotoworld) A Texas man who recently pleaded guilty to a federal charge of conspiring to distribute anabolic steroids says he had close ties to players on both the Falcons and Cowboys.Impact: David Jacobs says he was responsible for distributing 40,000 units of anabolic steroids and several thousand units of HGH, and will turn over to prosecutors the names of players he distributed to. G Matt Lehr, now a member of the Bucs, was suspended four games in 2006 while with Atlanta for alleged steroid use and figures to be among the players Jacobs exposes.
Would this affect anyone this season, or more likely lead to off-season investigations?

More investigations.

Any impact would be in 2008 as I doubt there's any chance the league takes any action on what could only be considered hearsay at this time.

Be very interesting to see Roger "Tough on Crime" Goodell's handling of this situation.

The right thing for him to do is to be as tough as possible both in terms of comments and actions for anyone who is "guilty" of steroid possession (as a result of buying roids from the busted dealer). Automatic suspensions. Fight the union if they try to object that it is a lesser crime than a "failed test".

Somehow, I think that Goodell will take a more low key passive role (vs Bud Selig). I hope that I'm wrong.

Slight tangent here, but did anyone see the new testing/punishment system golf is putting into place? If you want to get steroids out of football, baseball, etc, just follow that model:

1st offense: 1 year ban

2nd offense: 5 year ban

A one year ban in golf is about the equivalent of a 4 game suspension in the NFL. You can play golf for many more years than football. That's why, at age 25 I gave up football and picked up golf again since I can play that into my 70's. 5 years is close to the one year football ban. Depending on position, a top-flight football player has a 7-12 year career. A 5 year ban would be 1/2 of your career. Not that I disagree w/ a punishment that harsh, but it's not a fair comparison between the two sports and you also need to account for the multitude of substances on that banned list. Is an asthma med worth that kind of a ban?
