Mort: Burleson NOT Expected Back Week 10 (1 Viewer)

The Lions may have to wait a couple more weeks for Nate Burleson to be back on the field. Burleson is no longer expected to return in Week 10, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, via Rotoworld.

If Burleson does indeed miss Week 10, the Lions will not have him for a crucial NFC North game against Chicago. It's possible he could return in time for the Lions' Week 13 matchup against Green Bay. Without Burleson in the lineup, Kris Durham will likely continue to play the No. 2 role behind Calvin Johnson.

Thanks for posting this; I was also very much looking at Burleson for a sneaky addition.

What are we expecting from Burleson WHEN he does return. Before he got hurt, he had 23 targets over the three games with a TD.

Is there any way that this represents some level of "gamesmanship" with Chicago waffling regarding the status of Cutler during the early week? I'm just saying, it seems a little odd.

I don't believe Burlesons playing/not playing has anyone in Chicago worrying. If it was Calvin, you might have a argument but Nate really doesn't move the needle enough to matter over his replacement.

I think he's an immediate WR3. His legs have been fine, so I'm sure he's been running routes, etc. Once he's cleared for contact, he should pick up right where he left off.

Thats what I'm hoping for. He steps back into the #2 receiver role on a pass happy team.

When asked about his timetable, Nate Burleson (arm) said he's "not going to sit here and pull an RG3."

Burleson returned to practice Tuesday but is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Bears. "I'm not going to sit here and pull an RG3 and talk over what is common sense and that's listen to my coaches and listen to the doctors," he said. "I want to play and that's just me being a competitor. That doesn't mean that my arm is ready to be out there for 60 minutes." Burleson's injury is similar to the one Rob Gronkowski sustained -- and then re-fractured -- last season.

Nate Burleson did bench presses Wednesday for the first time since breaking his arm.
Burleson is catching passes in practice and appears to be nearing full strength. But he isn't expected to play this week as he doesn't want to pull a Rob Gronkowski with his forearm. "I think the biggest thing is falling on it," Burleson said. "That's what the doctors keep telling me. It's good that I can catch the ball. Now it's learning how to, I guess, take hits and hit the ground with the ball in my hand." We'd give Burleson an outside shot at returning as the Lions' No. 2 wideout in Week 11.

FBG have Kris Durham ranked pretty high for the rest of the season considering this news regarding Burleson. Are they both WR3's going forward?

Interesting, I was noticing this as well, and was surprised. I'd imagine Durham would settle in as the #3 receiver once Burleson is back, but I can't see him remaining in the Top 40 receivers for the rest of the season when Burleson comes back?
