Most "hated" quarterbacks. (Public Policy Polling) (1 Viewer)

A recent poll organized by Public Policy Polling found that New England's golden boy, Tom Brady, is actually the quarterback most hated by voters around the country.

From PPP:

Brady may have more rings than any of his fellow QB's, but he also inspires more animosity. 18% say he's their least favorite QB to

12% for [Tim] Tebow,

11% for [Robert Griffin III],

7% for Eli Manning,

5% for Peyton [Manning] and [Drew] Brees,

4% for [Cam] Newton, and

3% for [Aaron] Rodgers and [Russell] Wilson.

Honestly, what do people hate about Griffin? I mean, I get that if you don't like the Redskins, you will probably not be a fan but hate?

surprised the percentage is so low

Too much exposure and (self) promotion?
Is that really all it takes? They don't like him because he does commercials? They don't like the attention he gets? The guy wins the heisman and ROY in back to back years. It's not like the attention he gets in undeserved.

I just don't understand it. Look at the comment sections at PFT. Idiots are still reveling in his knee injury.

This could be similar to that, when you are the most popular, you will have people who love you and hate you.

Hate isn't used in the correct context here as people don't understand the meaning of hate if they actually think they hate these guys.

My least liked QB in the league recently has probably been Matthew Stafford. His inability to inspire his team down the stretch, to take command of a division that was up for grabs, his unwillingness to work with a QB coach for the betterment of his game, which helps the team (when he sorely needs it) and the look on his face bothers me.

Dude needs to hit the gym and get in top shape and work harder than he ever has before to earn his fat contract.

If you're a bills, jets or dolpins fan, you hate him for winning the division year after year. if you're a chargers, broncos, texans, titans or jaguars fan,you hate him for knocking you out of the playoffs and keeping you from a title. If you're a colts, ravens or steelers fan, you probably hate him for some big playoff games over the years. If you're a rams, panthers or eagles fan, you hate him for beating your team in the superbowl. That's 14 of 31 teams that have good reason to dislike the patriots in the tom brady dynasty era, before you even get in to random fans who don't like him for whatever other reason they may have. I'm surprised the number isn't higher.

Contrast that with peyton manning, who has made lots of friends with his postseason accomplishments...

Not sure why RG3 would be that guy unless it 's similar to Tebow in that he's a guy who may be overrated and gets a lot of attention. After awhile, you get tired of a guy who gets air time Nd he's not producing on the field, still surprising to see him that high as most disliked IMO.

Previous Washington Redskins coaches only had to deal with one divisive influence at the top of the franchise. Now there are two. The next head coach will have to cope not just with owner-supremo Daniel Snyder’s interference, but with the added complication of a 23-year-old boy emperor who believes he can dictate everything from the play-calling to what’s served at training table. You don’t like eggs? Take it up with Robert Griffin III.

On the surface, the presence of Griffin should be a lure for a head coach: Who wouldn’t want to work with an electromagnetic talent who just needs some schooling as a dropback passer to become one of the most powerful weapons in the league, right? That’s how it should be. But it’s not.

He is also tied for 2nd as the "most favorite" by fans, with Brady. So yeah, that's all it takes.

Manning has more post season success and regular season success than Tebow. If regular and post season success is all you're measuring this on, explain Tebow's high number like you just did Brady's. Please use what he has accomplished on the football field only, feel free to use Peyton Manning as a reference in a football context as you did with Brady if it helps your argument.

Yeah, that column is basically :bs:

Shanahan still taking shots at Griffin through Jenkins. The same Jenkins that backed Armstrong & Paterno over and over.

All of those voters are morons. None of those quarterbacks are deserving of hate, unless you're dumb enough to actually hate a guy simply because he is the QB of a team you hate (like Bears fans hating Rodgers, for example). I mean, how does anyone hate Russell Wilson? He's a really good quarterback with a great work ethic and even greater attitude, yet 3% of these voters hate him? Good grief.

Dallas Cowboys are the most hated franchise and also the most liked.

It's b/c of all the Cowboys fans. I see Cowboys fans talk about other franshises (to distract from their own) more than any other franchise. My f/b and twitter just went nuts when the Eagles lost this past weekend. Surprisingly quiet the week before though.

I am not sure the measurement here but over the history of the last 30 seasons, Dallas has been the most hated and loved.

Right this second, with Peyton Manning coming off a career year for Denver, it does not surprise me to see Denver at 14 percent to Dallas 12, in fact I am surprised it's that close.

In fact my Mom, who's never even mentioned the Denver Broncos to me in my life, called me over the weekend to tell me she was hoping the Broncos win the SB.

It has very little to do with the Broncos and very much to do with Peyton Manning being their current QB. As soon as he's retired they won't be in the top 3 if top 5 and the Cowboys will be the team that everyone loves and hates.

Within the context of sports, that's reason enough to "hate" a player. I don't blame Bears fans for hating Rodgers. He hurts their chances to win.

There's definitely a big jealousy component in most of these.

Remember, they dont just poll football fans. ;)

I'd say jealousy is probably the main component here. I just don't get hating a player just because he was integral in handing your team a big defeat. Hell, that Broncos loss to the Ravens last year was crushing, but I don't hate Flacco because of it. In the 80s, the Broncos lost three Super Bowls, but I never hated Simms, Williams or Montana.

Ya, I guess my point was I know Brady looks to be the most hated, but my guess is he's also one of the most popular, just like the Cowboys are on both ends. I was just using that as an example, not trying to take away from the intent of the original post.

I feel the same about Garrett at HC. :gang2:

You know how to hurt a guy, he's everyone's friend in the East.

Is Romo your least liked QB?

Sports don't always bring out the best in people.

How can anyone hate Brees?
Again, i can't use the word hate for any of these guys but I don't like Brees as a player. I feel like he gets too much credit in that pass happy offense over the years, too much meaning in the same league as Manning and Brady. I feel like there is a significant gap there and it frustrates me when he is linked into that group.

Love the things he does outside of football for NO and charity, as you said, how do you HATE anyone like that.

Brady, like Tebow, is hated for his fans and perception as much as the player himself.

How can anyone hate Brees?
He came off a little tone deaf during the whole bountygate scandal, and I think he was pretty vocal in the CBA negotiations for those who sided with management during that whole ordeal. Chris Kluwe famously called him a "########" for holding up the negotiations. And then the whole jealousy thing.

Honestly, what do people hate about Griffin? I mean, I get that if you don't like the Redskins, you will probably not be a fan but hate?
I think you got that backwards my friend. It's the Redskins fans that hate Griffin. And they hate him because he sucks.

Ha. Nah. I actually like Romo. I don't think he has the "it" factor, but I think he has the right leadership. On the right team, I think he could compete for a Superbowl. My personally most hated QB is Jay Cutler.

Based on threads and comments in this forum, would have expected to see Cutler...
He's not good enough to be hated. How about Vick and Roethlisberger? These guys both did some very terrible things (allegedly in Ben's case).
They didn't ask about those guys.

I agree with this and to be honest, I think that when people answer these kinds of polls I think they are basically answering it as if the QB of the team they hate represents the fans of that team. So I am guessing any vote for Wilson is just nothing more than a vote for Seahawk fans, much like a vote for Brady is probably more of a vote for Pat fans. As a Bears fan, I almost want to dislike Rodgers (per your example) because he is so good, but he is a tremendous player and that would be nothing more than jealousy on my part.
