For me, Ned getting beheaded. He was probably my favorite character at the time and it kind of set the tone that nothing is off limits on this show and don't get too attached to any character because you don't know how long that character may be around. Of course, now I'm attached to Tyrion.......

Joffrey for me. Had heard abut Ned beforehand unfortunately. Oberyn losing was a close 2nd. Not that i didnt think it could happen, just the way it happened. He beat the Mountain quite easily and just when you could relax the leg sweep happened.

Ned was the first. Sean Bean was an established actor and there was no reason to think he wouldn't be around.
Right. Really one of the first times a TV show killed off its lead character so quickly.
Yep, set the tone. At the time, the show didn't have all the hype it does now. I remember after that first season telling all my friends that they had to watch. They all thought the show seemed stupid. I remember them all coming to me after they caught up and saw Ned die. They were all just like, "Thrones. ####### Thrones, man."

Red Wedding for me. You figured something was going down there, but it was an overall bloodfest. Killing the prego was nasty.

I voted for the Benedding.

Although, I will say that the end of S1E1 is what REALLY got me into the show. When Jaimie pushed Bran out the window after being caught banging the hot sis, I was like :o WTF?

Joff was predictable to me for some reason. I kinda thought the Oberyn was easy to see coming based on the history of the show.

I just remember thinking something, somehow, was going to save Ned, and it never happened. Like was mentioned, set the tone for everything thereafter.

1. Red Wedding

2. Ned's Head

3. End of this season shocker (I hope it's this season), which will knock off Ned from #2.

Ned. I hadn't read any of the books at that point and had no idea they'd actually kill him off. Thought for sure he was a lead character for the duration of the series.

And I also hope this season has 1 or 2 more :o moments coming.

Jaime losing his hand was really the most unexpected/shocking thing I've seen.

  • Ned being beheaded was shocking but there's really no story without this happening. Maybe I wasn't as invested that early on to be really shocked.
  • The Red Wedding was too predictable.
  • Joffrey dying was unexpected but I hated him so...
  • Oberyn dying really hasn't set in yet. I think that's maybe #2.
