Most underrated fantasy player(s) of the last 10 years? (1 Viewer)

Thought this would be interesting to do. Hopefully it hasn't been done already. :goodposting: Did a quick search & didn't see anything.

Feel free to do one position or all. I do mine based on PPR format.

QB

RB

WR

TE

Will post all my picks tomorrow as I've still got to get my QB & TE selections. Interested to see which RB garners the most votes [as this player is the basis for creating this topic]

The most underrated FANTASY qb ever was Aaron Brooks. He was my favorite QB for a few years straight because you could guarantee he would get you 250 yds, 2 tds and some rushing production and he'd always be there in the later rounds. He played like crap every single game but the Saints sucked back then and Brooks would always get great 2nd half garbage time production.

Charlie Garner seemed under rated in the early 200?;s as well as Tiki Barber. Although Barber's value increased it seemed around 2005 until he retired. Maybe these players were only under rated in my local leagues, and not others...as I would get them at great value consistently late in drafts. I had Tiki as a RB3 in 2004 behind P. Holmes and S. Davis. Once again, it could have just been the particular leagues I was in...not sure.

Seemed like back in the late 1990's I was seeing W. Moon fall in my leagues consistently also. He was pretty solid for many years.

all he does is produce top 10 numbers year after year yet he's continually passed over.

Tiki Barber

Warrick Dunn

Donald Driver

Derrick Mason

I remember 2 straight years getting Tiki at the end of the 2nd and he was top 3 in PPR. Driver and Mason were (and continue to be for their ADP) PPR gold. And I will always cherrish Warrick Dunn and his PPR magic as a flex player you could always land in the mid 4th to late 5th during his prime.

Got Portis at 3.04 and loving it.

I agree with a lot of these picks already. Ward, Mason, Driver have been perceived as "old" for at least the past 5 years and are always steady top producing wideouts year in and year out, especially in PPR leagues. They might not have a high ceiling, but are savvy vets who seem to get it done and represent value in FF.

Players who came to mind immediately:

QB: Brooks, Vick

RB: Portis, Garner, Dunn, Martin

WR: Kennison, Rod Smith, Jimmy Smith, McCardell

TE: :blackdot:

Chad Pennington gets no love. He was the #10 QB, #23 player overall in my league last year and didn't even get drafted this year! As soon as our waiver wire goes live I can guaruntee he won't still be available, I will make sure of that! I got Brady but I'll take CP as a backup all day!

I agree on Trent Green. Hasslebeck has had some real solid years but never in the elite spots that all the press thought he would reach.

:goodposting: Year after year he is a bargain.

Good list here. Not an elite guy but Thomas Jones has been good value for five years running. Only LT2 has more yards rushing in the last four years, and you rarely had to pay low RB1/high RB2 value for him.

Terance Mathis is...was...the answer at WR.

I can agree with Charlie Garner at RB.

QB - gonna have to go with Gus Frerotte.

Clinton Portis and Derrick Mason are the two good picks probably, Donald Driver is quite underrated as well.

Donald Driver

Derrick Mason

Warrick Dunn

Rudi Johnson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thomas Jones, though never great was usually solid

Mike Vick

Aaron Brooks

They had the rushing production that always gave them as many/more points than the other QBs. Bot nobody ever looked at that.

Rudi is my pick overall.

It is hard to consider him underrated, but TO often slips in drafts due to his trouble-maker personality. TO always comes through with big years, but usually slips a couple rounds because people are afraid he will blow up.

Also can we get a lil Freddy Taylor action in here!

What about Drew Brees until just recently!

Just 2 years ago he was goin late, but always had good fantasy numbers!

Ahman Green was great value for a couple years.

But no one compares to Portis as far as value when what you get with him is worth a top 5 pick.

Mason and Driver probably next.

I agree with Driver and Mason at WR, and Curtis Martin and Fred Taylor at RB. At TE for the past couple years I would add Owen Daniels, although his ADP finally increased this year.

I know I'm going to get roasted for this, but at QB: Peyton Manning. Everybody loves to hate the guy, but since drafting him in my dynasty league many years ago, last season was the first season that he didn't finish in the top 5 QBs (he was 6th). He's never missed a game, which means that I haven't had to worry about my backup QB as much as others.

Kennison's a great choice, and the guy I was going to post as the poster boy for underrated WRs. Starting in '03, he finished 24th, 18th, 18th, and 29th... and yet every year he was drafted as a WR5 or a WR6. I also agree with Portis as the most underrated player in fantasy. I got him as the 17th RB off the board this year. His worst career finish is 11th (if you pro-rate his 8-game season), even in the seasons where he missed a game or two. He's excelled in Denver's ZBS, in Gibbs' power rushing attack, and in Zorn's WCO. Stud.

Penny's not underrated. He's ranked in the top 12 ONCE in his career (last year when he was 10th), and has only ranked in the top 20 three times in nine years. He's got an extensive injury history. Sure, he was 10th last year... but Miami played the AFC East teams (all of whom had terrible pass defenses) twice, in addition to the AFC West and NFC West (which were the two most pathetic divisions in all of football). Basically, Penny ranked 10th against the easiest schedule known to man, and it was a career high. Plenty of reasons to be very down on him going forward that have nothing to do with his long (and storied) injury history. Tremendously underrated as an NFL QB, but pretty accurately rated as a fantasy QB.

One that springs to mind is Trent Green...for 3 or 4 years in the early 2000's, this guy was constantly under-rated in FF drafts, can remember drafting him in the mid - late rounds many times and he was good for 4000 yds and 25 td's every year until he got that bad injury

Isaac Bruce and Muhsin Muhammad...theyre kind of like that tier below Ward, Driver, Mason

..and WTH did happen to Rudi Johnson? he fell off a cliff and I dont even know why
