Mother brings a 20 month old special needs kid to a movie. The Kid act (1 Viewer)

I hate parents that think everyone should suffer with them and their brats....don't bring him if he is going to disrupt everyone else's experience....sorryvhe has had a rough life but it does not excuse the behavior.

Article makes me want to vomit. Oh look, a pretentious mom giving her kid a pretentious as hell name thinks her child is such a unique snowflake.

20 month old kids shouldn't be brought to the movies...period.

Her son's story is very sad but it doesn't matter why the child was being disruptive in the theater...it was ruining things for others.

Around here there are special shows for kids- lights are on and it is expected there will be noise. Take the kids to that or wait.

this i agree with. Disability or not 20 months is to young to bring a kid to the movies. I didn't bring my son to his first movie until he was 3

I like how it just keeps dressing A DISNEY MOVIE

Avengers Age of Ultron is a Disney Movie...not appropriate for a 20 Month Old

I don't have a problem with her taking her kid to the movies (Disney in the afternoon). I don't have a problem with his unique form of laughing...nor do I have a problem with her calling the man(men) to task for speaking about something they didn't understand.....but this letter is Pretentious. When people put this type of Facebook "share fooder out there, I always assume they're fishing for some sort of "sympathy compensation" from a big company (Disney?)

It was a ####in Disney movie. Did the guy think al the kids would be quiet in there?
No but between this kid's age and disability (an it's resultant noise-level that she was most certainly downplaying), I have little to no doubt her kid was well above the threshold of acceptable "kid noise"... even for a disney film.

100 bucks she has shirts or license plates or bumper stickers that read "Vito's Mom".

Pretty much this. What's the point?

Also, is there some inner irrational switch that flips when a person has a kid?? This Mom seems genuinely convinced that these guys should have come over and met this wonderfully awesome kid. I know of other parents (mostly moms) that automatically assume that everyone should want to meet their kid.

I want my own children more than about anything right now. But I don't expect others to want to meet them.

Too hard to tell the jerk in the story unless we can hear the "laughter" the kid was making. The mom says that she left the theater when the kid cried, and that the man objected to the "laughter".

But I agree that 20 months is too young for a kid to be at a movie theater.

Was that the movie?
No idea but I'd guess it's either that or Tomorrowland (PG) if we're going by currently released Disney films

My point was that "Disney film" doesn't necessarily mean G rated cartoon for small children
Tomorrowlands a bit different for a 20 month old child. I was thinking it was more along the lines of an animated or Pixar movie.

I have a special needs kid myself and hate parents of special needs kids like this who think the world needs to bow down to them.

She admits on her Facebook page that the movie was Tomorrowland. Rated PG. Draw your own conclusions regarding her use of "Disney movie"
I didn't even take my 6 year old to Tomorrowland after I read there was a decapitation and beat down of human looking androids in it.

I think some people are ###holes to begin with and having a special needs child gives them an excuse to be bigger ###holes.

Why would anybody think it's a good idea to take someone to the movies that ####s their pants on a daily basis?

I would punch a 20 month old baby with cancer in the throat if they made noise during a movie I shelled out $80 to see.

G-DAMMIT. 20 MONTH OLDS SHOULDN'T EVEN GO TO G-RATED CARTOONS!
Disagree.
You're wrong.
Why shouldn't they?
Really?
Yeah.....we've had our son at around 20 months go along with us when we took his 4 year old sister to the movies. He sat for awhile....enjoyed it....got restless....we took him out....let him walk around the lobby for awhile...went back in....he sat and watched it for awhile...rinse and repeat. I was fine with it. Wife was too. Wasn't anymore disturbing than the 4 to 9 year olds carrying on in the theater.

This is your narcissistic problem. No one else was fine with it. Sure you took him out after he started throwing a tantrum and disturbed the other families of appropriately aged children that paid for their tickets. But hey, as long as you and your wife were fine with it!

Because they are annoying brats that ruin the experience for everyone else.
I've been in movies where everyone from the age of 4 to 70 have done things to ruin the experience for everyone else. Are we blanket banning them as well?

You don't know that. It's asinine for you to condemn a parent for putting the kibosh on a tantrum ASAP while the theatre had a couple of boys age 5-7 running around for half the movie.

Acting up in a theatre knows no age. It's what the people after the initial act up that counts. HTH.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under the age of 2 years old not watch TV, so I'm guessing they would recommend the same with a movie.
So everyone using this as a defense of 20 month olds not going to the movies is also abiding by not letting them watching TV?......
I provided support to back up Malloy's assertion, but I have no clue how many people follow the AAP's advice. Probably not many.

Thunderlips :fishing:
Not at all. I've qualified my statement by removing movies like Tomorrowland from the equation.....but there's nothing at all wrong with taking a 20month or so old to a G rated feature as long as you're prepared to deal properly with any problems that might come about. That goes for people of any age.

Like I've said before.....lack of movie etiquette isn't confined to the 20 month old.

I haven't taken my 3 1/2 year old to a movie yet because he has a difficult time sitting still that long and would likely disrupt the experience for other patrons. Instead, we choose to do other activities he enjoys.

That has nothing to do with this story.
