Movember (1 Viewer)

Was thinking about doing this...especially since I don't want to shave. May finally give me an excuse the wife will approve of this time.

So I started a group this year at my job (school) - my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer late last year - and a bunch of the guys are doing it. We've raised a few hundred bucks already...

I was just contacted by MSG Varsity that they want to do an interview, before and after, etc. What have I done??

I'm in. Raised a hundred bucks and about a thousand libitos so far...

My Movember Page
If you started from scratch on 11/1, that's pretty impressive. #testosteroneHere's mine from yesterday...clearly taking it's toll on me: http://static.movember.com/uploads/2011/posts/754/f7d/754f7d647387378963b5099a4cd9d217-509bc41db7a95.jpg
that's a carry over picture from last year. I started a few days early this year (10/28). My plan is to start over 12/1 with full beard instead of just the stache.

My brothers, a few friends and I are all doing this except with beards. We will be making Duck calls by early December.

I'm in, didn't shave at all for the first 10 days, and then dropped the stubble and left the stach. It's not pretty. I've been told I need to get some Aviator sunglasses and I'd look like a stereotypical cop.

Any suggestions for drumming up donations? I don't have a huge social network, obviously that is probably the first place to look, and a few other workmates are in as well, so any suggestions for getting this out there are welcome.

and for those that don't want to give, but just want to see how awesome I am: My link

I rocked the horseshoe until this morning and have slowly trimmed away.

Likely going to turn it into a pencil stache before the night is out.

I was on two teams this year, raised $296 on my main/work team and another $226 on the GMTAN team

Ha. This year I went full beard too. Noticed that there are a few bright white ones hiding in the mostly dark blonde/light red/brownish. And am only 32. Sucks. I started a bit early though, mid October since my Eagles made me go into hibernation way early this year :obc: :bag:

So you're telling us that you grew a beard this fall

It's the time of the year again, my work is sponsoring a team this year and I decided to join it -- going to take alot of heart and dedication but should be alot of fun

Your picture looks like you're in prison wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Is this charity legit? Seems like as big of a scam as Komen.

http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/77-0714052/movember-foundation.aspx#recommendations

Revenue Total Revenue $20,863,208 Expenses Total Expenses $20,613,689
From that same report: In the US, funds raised are directed to programs administered directly by Movember, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the LIVESTRONG Foundation. (In 2012, $16.5MM, included in the $20.6MM of expenses, was directed towards these beneficiary partners.

I'm coordinating a work team this year. Many follically challenged individuals participating, should be fun.

I think they just shuffle money amongst other cancer charities that all have enormous administration salaries. If there ever was a cancer cure this huge multimillion dollar charity bubble would burst. What is crazy, is not only are we not any closer to a cure for cancer, but rates are actually increasing.

lots of cancers have been cured. People who do have cancer have way longer life expectancies than ever before. Care has never been better.

Here's the 2013 annual report.

It doesn't look like a scam, but there is $4M in administration.
Was going to add that I would expect any money they pay out to help towards their cause is an expense. And being a non-profit, they really can't have a lot more income than expenses.

As for Movember, my wife has forbidden me from participating this year. Apparently my mustache is that bad. (I know, bring on the :whipped: comments)

Really trying to get to $1190 this year...that's half of a penny for each of the 238,000 men that will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, including my father. I'm about one third of the way there with the fundraising. I'd say my stache is about half way to awesome.
