We are voting on which one of the these director's movie you would want to see TODAY.  Of course past performance is part of the equation, but we should also be factoring in recent performance and what you think they will be doing in the future.  For the sake of the tournament, the ONLY information you have to decide between the two directors is something that reads "New Movie by _______".  There are no trailers, synopsis, or imdb page to look at.  I don't want it to be about theater experience either - what type of movies you usually pay for in the theater, etc..  I posted in one of the other threads this scenario: we all have the same home set up, so for the match pretend you get 2 blurays shipped to you in a blank case that reads "New movie by ______".  You have to pick one, and the other is destroyed MI style.

Nolan's and Coen's

I appreciate the catalog, but Spielberg has been a bust lately. Do like Scorsese but he seems like he's on rinse repeat mode lately. Coen's always have that chance for a gem.

Well that probably again goes back to the fundamental flaw of the contest. Even though KP meant well and spelled out the rules in detail, most people probably just voted on who they liked more from their whole catalog and not based on a new movie they want to see by that person.

Spielberg & Coen.  Spielberg over Nolan was an easy choice for me but Coen over Marty was a buzzer beater.

It's a travesty that Spielberg made it this far.  No disrespect meant, but his best days are long past.
Lincoln was a pretty damn good film

Seems like he produces more than he directs now, but I'd still say I hear the name Spielberg and I figure I want to see that movie.  Don't get me wrong, the same goes for Nolan so it's a tough matchup for sure.

Nah, that is a fundamental flaw of the FFA. ;)   To be fair, as somebody pointed out, there are probably a lot of people who haven't seen a ton of these movies.  Maybe they have managed to avoid the more recent bad Spielberg movies, just haven't seen any of his in awhile, or liked movies like War Horse and Indy 4 a lot better than I did.

Maybe I should have gone with my initial thought and had the different regions be different themes.  Was going to do an old timers region of guys on the downside of their careers, an up and comers region, etc...  Frankly, that sounded like a lot more work, a lot more input of my opinions (I tried to avoid that a bit with rankings), and thought there would be a lot of grumbling about the format.

Didn't go how I intended, but it was still fun.

I think people are just saying that his days of Greatness are long gone.  There are movies of his that were good lately - his last two movies have been Lincoln and Bridge of Spies.  While being good, they also don't feel like it is Spielberg pushing himself or trying anything different.  Not sure what I would say his last great movie was - maybe Munich?

I can agree with this.  But the premise also says that you know nothing about the movie except this guy is directing it.  I think much of the masses would still go out to see a Spielberg flick.

Damn, I hate the quote function now.

Anyway, I thought I would let this go another day, maybe bump it a couple times, and then put up the championship tonight.
