I’m getting tired of living near Boston and want to move someplace vibrant that has good music, food and access to pro teams.

i don’t mind cold weather cities at all.

I'd follow the path of the Braves from Boston to Milwaukee. Maybe think about moving to Atlanta a few years after that.

If you like cold weather and pro sports teams, check out Detroit. Its obviously not as vibrant as Chicago, but its on the rebound. You can pick up a beautiful old home for dirt cheap.

Because of where it was, its kind of like a blank canvas down there right now. Want to build something? Buy some of the tons of open space or an old building and go for it. Want to open something? Go for it. Want to buy an old house for cheap and remodel it? Go for it.

And the suburbs are huge - if that's more your speed.

The best music cities are going to be LA, Des Moines and Charlotte.  For food, the best will be in Portland, Salt Lake City, and Jacksonville.  Some of these have pro teams too.

How about New York City? You could probably rent something in Queens for a reasonable price, even though I think it's already getting gentrified.

Oh, you live in Worcester. That's different. I've been to Worcester a bunch. Because I was going to say "how about Boston?"

Seattle...it's absolutely beautiful. Great music/food town, has pro football, baseball, and now hockey. NBA is 2hrs away, and Portland is a good music/food town also. Beer...don't forget about the beer.

I do like that Seattle is getting an NHL team.

Tell me more about Buffalo.
Very, very cold. Only a hockey team to go with the Bills.

Let's put it this way about music: in our FF music draft, you're allowed to pick from Toronto if you procure their defense.

Food? Well, I hope you like chicken wings.

I personally had a blast in Buffalo, lest you think I'm bagging on the city. The people were nice as all get-out and it was just a good time. Last call is four in the morning. It was cool.

Dallas meets all the criteria, but might be a culture shock.

Hockey, baseball, football, basketball, even I think soccer -- Dallas FC sound right?

Music: Think Denton TX, indie and punk rock Mecca.

Food? World class.

Heck, I might move there.

Anyway, I don't want to keep shouting out answers. I'll let everybody have a chance.

I feel like Austin or Dallas peaked because all my music friends moved to Nashville or Chicago lol

It's because the end for Brady is within hailing distance, isn't it.

How is getting around Buffalo? Do they have a reliable transportation system?

I walked or took cabs that week. I had pretty decent disposable income to work with back then (not that I do now or even close -- this isn't a chest-thumping FBG in-joke) so I don't really know what the public transportation in Buffalo is like, if really at all. It's the NFTA, and they have a subway and busses, IIRC.

I would Google that or ask one of the Buffalo natives on the board -- Aaron Rudnicki comes to mind -- about it. Check the Bills thread. I'm sure you can deduce who is from Buffalo by reading a bunch of pages. That might give you the best information.

Buffalo? I hope you really, REALLY like the snow. Even more so than Boston.
I was trying to dissuade but didn't want to trash a city I enjoyed while having an exam in for the week. It was really the people that were pretty cool.

The weather was tough. One can get really depressed really quickly in that environment.

So Cal.  Plenty of seats at Charger games.  We have LeBron.  Vibrant food scene, craft beer galore.  And you really can't like cold weather.

Ponzu Scheme, Chowder Fountain, and Hot Dog on a Stick on a Stick are my go-tos in J'ville.  @Henry Ford will back me up on this.

I just visited family in New Hampshire and I honest to God dont know how you guys put up with the cold like that.  Its absolutely brutal.  We just had a run of 70 degree days in the past week down here in NC.  Sure it gets cold but it doesnt stay that way very long.

If I were you I would look at Charlotte based on your criteria or maybe Tampa but not sure of the music scene there.

Can you describe more about what you don't like about Boston and what you want to avoid?

Yes but there are two huge problems with Dallas.  All the Cowboys fans, and all the cockroaches.

Though now that I think about it, they are so indistinguishable from each other we can probably lump them together as one huge problem instead.

;)

Houston fan talking, huh?  My ex-girlfriend's family was from Houston. Hoo boy, did one ever hear it about Dallas and Dallas girls.

I agree with all of this except the u of mich part.

I'm not a huge country fan but Nashville seems to be a music hub for a lot of genres. A little warmer than some cities. Moderate sports scene but you obviously can watch all the Bahstin teams.

Out of curiosity how is the traffic situation there? Boston rush hour is 630-930am and 2is-7pm. It’s become a nightmare all around here
