MSW throws Garrard under the bus (3 Viewers)

"I was responding to some tweets people asked! I've never been a selfish player and if u watch the games I block my but off for or backs!!!"

You are down the whole game and your top WR sees 3 targets... He did catch 2 of those as well. I would be frustrated as well, however, there is nothing about throwing Garrard under the bus in that tweet.

The coaching staff hasn't figured it out yet. They blame everyone but the obvious, just like Houston did for years.

The play calling sucks just as bad as Garrard does. They can be down by 14 in the 4th and still come out and run on first down, one of the worst teams in the NFL to watch, it's no wonder the fans don't come out to games.

I hate when people say who players are "throwing people/coaches/players under the bus" and in fact, it's never the case.

I was under the impression that Garrard had tossed himself under the bus with his play.

These comments don't seem bad at all.

Ummm... you realize that their runningback is Maurice Jones-Drew, right? Maybe Jacksonville just knows where their bread is buttered, that MJD is their best chance at putting the ball in the end zone.

MSW is just emulating his role models. Receivers have been doing this sort of thing since Keyshawn Johnson or possibly even earlier.

the ultimate tough decision in my total points league next week:

msw on the road, but at cleveland.

if the weather is good i may play him.

Ummm you do realize there are other ways to get the ball in a RB's hands right? You do realize that changing the play calling a little may loosen up a defense right? You do realize any PREDICTABLE team can and usually will be shut down by any decent defense right? They also have 2 very solid wr'ers one will be a HOF'er and the other looks to be taking off, unlike many people I usually appreciate your posts, but that was a pretty lame reply that lacked much thought.

Garrard not only threw himself under the bus but he somehow managed to drive it as well. It is good to see that Garrard has nice profession to fall back on after Jacksonville wakes up the the fact that Del Rio and Garrard both suck.

I really feel sorry for MSW.

Torry Holt might be a HoFer one day (I don't think he's a slam dunk, but he definitely has a very compelling argument), but that's wholly irrelevant right now, because his knees are shot. If Jacksonville signed Jerry Rice and Cris Carter, then they'd have 3 HoF WRs in their WR corps, and that still wouldn't make it a good unit. Holt is barely adequate as a WR2 anymore, and Sims-Walker is very good, but he's no Andre Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald. As for changing up the playcall to loosen up the defense... I think the defense is already pretty loose when you're down by 14 in the 4th quarter. It's not like you need to call passes so that they won't expect a run anymore. So far this season, MJD has gotten 15 or fewer carries five times, which to me seems like a gross misuse of resources, especially in light of MJD's 8/177/2 day against Tennessee. Some teams I'll get on them for running too much, but Jacksonville is nowhere near the point where I'm ready to start criticizing them for running too much. And yeah, they can toss it to MJD, too... but MJD's not going to be running vertical routes. If they throw it to him, it'll be a screen or a dumpoff, which is functionally the same thing as a running play, anyway. It's slow-developing and unlikely to get huge chunks of yardage at a time. If that's your plan, you might as well just hand it off to MJD, or at the very least run some sweeps and pitches (why does nobody run pitch plays anymore?) to give him a chance to get to the sidelines.

That's much better. At least disagree with thought. :-)

If I had to guess, the speed of the defenses now particulary at the end position or the outside lb's in the 3-4 has made this play non exhistent because it is easy to see coming and react to.

Possibly, although I feel like I was seeing pitches as recently as 3-5 years ago. Seems weird to think that things would have changed that much that quickly. Maybe it's a result of the rebirth of the 3-4. I don't know. If I were running a team, I'd add "bringing back the pitch play" to my list of sweeping reforms (alongside the shovel pass, the fleaflicker, and going for it more on 4th down).

nah, maybe J'ville knows they're bread is buttered at the RB position because they simply cannot rely upon their QB to win games... :hifive: and their coaching staff is one of the worst in the NFL.

but, Garrard just.plain.sucks..

(waiting for the Chase Stewart PR blitz/damage control/ fuzzy math post about how good Garrard is if/when we extrapolate stats against the mean at N+1 / attempts/year * TD passes to non-WR's under the age of 25 in home games played on sunny days against sub .500 teams wearing red jerseys, in 3....2.....1....) :goodposting:

give it up already, Chase

66% isn't that great.
The third target was also completed. To the other team.So MSW caught the only two passes he could have caught. I think he has every right to be frustrated. Last week, he was wide-### open constantly and Garrard never looked at him. Yesterday, Garrard ignored him again. While I think his Tweet was based on emotion and frustration he was 100% correct. And it was clearly directed at those responsible for ignoring him in the game plan. I think it starts with the playcalling and then goes straight to Garrard.

We really don't know how good MSW is or can be because his QB sucks so badly.

He is right, and he is not throwing Garrard under the bus.

I saw MSW' picture on the back of a milk carton the other day. Shame on anyone who started him this past week.

Shame on anyone who started him this past week.
He posted 6-64-1 last week and looked healthy and explosive. He had a beatable matchup in a game that projected to feature the Jags trailing and needing to throw it a lot in order to try and keep up. I'm not upset at myself for starting MSW. He earned it in my opinion. But s**t happens in this game sometimes and yesterday was a prime example of a good player being taken out of a potentially productive game by a poor QB.

OK he had a decent game (not great but decent) a week ago but what about the 3 games prior to that? Ironically, his 3 game total was the exact same for catches and yardage that he had a week ago (6 catches 64 yards). I guess it depends on who else was on your roster but he still has tailed off considerably in the past month or so.

15 points in my PPR league is a pretty good game. Based on what he showed last week, how healthy he looked and how the matchup strongly favored the Jags having to pass a lot I think he was a rock-solid WR2 option this week and he looked to be back on track after the three-week lull. It didn't work out that way obviously but I'm not kicking myself for starting him. I believe I made the right call and I don't get upset when I make the proper call and it doesn't work out for one reason or another.

the titans run the option. it can still be done.

I don't think his tweet is necessarily throwing Garrard under the bus, but more so the play calling by the team. MSW would have had more catches if he were running the short slant routes instead of Holt running them. The fact is that the Jags got down to the Pats early in the game and were down 28-0 by halftime. That essentially takes a team out of the running game except for screen passes and dump off passes to MJD. Being down so much so early in a game allows the defence to either pin their ears back and attack the QB (in which the Jags OL is still a work in progess) or to rush just a few players and have many guys in coverage.

MSW can say whatever he wants on his twitter page as far as I'm concerned, but sometimes games just do not go according to the game plan.

This season...All these guys have much better QB's too and look at their catch percentages on the year. I would say 66% is pretty darn good company.Fitz: 64% AJ: 59%Moss: 59%Wayne: 67%

I don't hear any of them whining about getting the ball more either.

Over a 100 targets, a 66% catch rate is phenomenal.Over 3 targets, a 66% catch rate doesn't mean anything. I mean, if a guy's a 50% receiver, he's as likely to wind up at 66% after 3 targets as he is to wind up at 33%. The sample size just isn't big enough that you can offer up a 66% catch% as a reason why Jacksonville should have kept going back to MSW. Plenty of other reasons, but that one doesn't really fly.

I totally agree with this. My post was in response to somebody else saying 66% catch rate is not good, when in turn it can be very good of course taken in the context of a season. For what it is worth... Sims-Walker has 61 catches on a 104 targets for a 59% total.
