Muhammad Ali -- RIP (1 Viewer)

I met Ali at Borders Books in Ann Arbor about 20 years ago while he was signing autographs.  The line was very long and I waited  with my buddy who was a huge fan.  When I got to the front I did not want an autograph.  I just shook hands with Ali and said "It is a honor to meet you Champ"  Ali then pulled me closer and said "I aint no Champ..I am just a bum" he smiled and winked"

Before smart phones...Wish I had a picture of that.

saw him leaving JFK after a flight one day... 20ish years ago- maybe more. gracious to every person that came up to him wanting to say hi or take a picture... also was handing out wads of cash to anybody that was helping him in and around the airport. always loved him as an athlete and personality, but really respected how he handled himself with the public that day.

My conscience won't let me go shoot my brother, or some darker people, or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America. And shoot them for what? They never called me , they never lynched me, they didn't put no dogs on me, they didn't rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father. ... Shoot them for what? How can I shoot them poor people? Just take me to jail.

Why bring his religion into it? He would have been great independent of that.
Because Muslim Americans are being attacked on a regular basis by the man Republicans have chosen to be their leader. If that man had his way, and if Muhammad Ali were outside of the country right now, he would not be allowed back in.

He isn't and he isn't.

Take it somewhere else windbag.

I think this is a poor strategy on your part.
Probably. I'm depressed about Ali. And I pissed about the hypocrisy of people praising him yet at the same time going along with the bigotry and hate that's being expressed right now.

But you're probably right. I'll stop.

this guy is the greatest my whole life i have watched my guy relatives get one too many in them and then start imiating his moves and talking like him he is just a mainstay for us and i am very sad to hear this watching him on bent edge tvs as thick as an old evinrude will always be with me thanks muhammed ali you are one of the true great ones take that to the old rope a dope bank bromigos

JFC Tim.

Anyways, this guy was before my time. I've read about him, seen some highlights, but most of my memories are of him in a somewhat crippled state (I'd say this is prob the case for most millennials)...

Most people consider him the GOAT, obviously I can't form an opinion here since he was before my time, but hopefully if he's suffering (and from what I've seen he has been for some time), he doesn't have to suffer anymore. T&P for him and his family.

I will not.

Conservatives don't get to appreciate the great Muhammad Ali and also support Donald Trump's racism against Muslim Americans. Choose one or the other.
You're losing it more and more each day.  Everything isn't about politics and your hatred of Trump. Take a break man.

Got to see him light the torch in Atlanta. A little crest fallen when the swimmer lit her torch at the bottom of the stairs. She ran to the top right past us, everyone was cheering but when she got tot the top and Ali stepped out the whole stadium went absolutely ape ####. My single favorite sports memory.

He owned his beliefs when so many did not.  He stood tall in an unpopular stance knowing the result would cost him much.  He was a true man of conscience.  Also the greatest fighter of my lifetime.

You got a link?

Only a total moron would interpret what Trump said that way.

Only a total attention whore or troll would try to drag politics into this thread.

It is amazing that you haven't been banned yet. I am guessing you must be related to one of the owners.

He is/was a very approachable person.  Remember meeting him at a BBQ place as a kid outside of Berrian Springs, MI, where he used to live back in the day.

GOAT, i have the epic Liston fight poster of him in my garage gym.  I want to get one of the ones of him boxing underwater.  Those are some great pics.

I get people criticizing Tim here, but given what we know of Ali, I think we shouldn't be so harsh on Tim. Ali likeky wouldn't like Trump or the ideas he speaks for. Ali also stood got boxing as much as he did for speaking your mind, making you own decisions regardless of popularity.
