Multiple Apple iPad/iPhone devices - sharing content? (1 Viewer)

What is the best way to set up multiple IOS devices in the same household? I'd like to share purchased content within my family if possible. Can multiple Apple IDs share some content? Can I purchase everything under my Apple ID and download select items to the kids and wife?

Also, is there a good storage/backup solution to save pictures and videos easily and cheaply? Do we go cloud or some external hard drive?

Basically, if I was going to start from ground floor and set up a mini family network, how should I proceed?

I don't know about multiple accounts. We just have a family iTunes account so that everyone has access to everything. That works well. We also just switched away from an Outlook calendar for the family to Google calendar, that's also working well.

For pictures and videos, are you talking about adding space to store them, or are you talking about backing them up in a second place?

Either way, an external hard drive works well. If you have a second slot, a second hard drive in your computer would work well also.

Each person should have their own Apple id for facetime and find my phone. Then you can share one iTunes account. I would turn off option to have apps download to each device otherwise you get every stupid app your kids download

I just hooked my phone up to the computer every time I wanted to save pictures. But people use dropbox. I paid for the cloud but never knew where the pictures were being backed up to. I think it's easier if you have an Apple computer.

I'm on a note 3 now and pics backup auto to picassa

Eta: you want different ids also you you aren't sharing Imessages.

Our setup works for all of this as well.

Did ours exactly like this. One ID that is used for iTunes and iTunes Match, separate IDs for iMessage, iCloud, Facetime, etc. Works great.

Try itunes match. It allows you to stream all of your music that is on your desktop. I have access to about 60gb worth of music without using any storage space throughout all of my devices. It cost 25$ annually. You also get no commercials with your itunes radio as well. If you want to share pictures with your family try photo stream.

Right now for my little kids and their iTouches, I have one account, and when we buy one app, all can share it. Saves mucho dinero!
