Musical Lament: Grammys Reboot A Holographic Jethro Tull For The Win, Run The Jewels Shut Out Of Nominations. Megan Thee Stallion All Over The Place (1 Viewer)

This is for the never heard, never even get a mother####in' word
This is for my sister Sarah, honey, I feel sorry you were hurt
This is for the dawn, mama took a knock, had to change the locks
Dusted up but brushed off and I watched talk about a boss
For the holders of a shred of heart even when you wanna fall apart

When you're surrounded by the fog, treadin' water in the ice cold dark
When they got you you feelin' like a
Fox runnin' from another pack of dogs
Put the pistol and the fist up in the air, we are there, swear to God...

&

Duly noted.

what is "pulling a Jethro Tull"?
I’m assuming it’s a reference to Jethro being nominated for (and winning, I think) a heavy metal Grammy even though that’s ludicrous, so I assume rock feels there’s been another injustice. This is also why I tend to scroll right by his posts because I really don’t want to have to try that hard.

To add insult to injury, Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for that award**.

**Grammys are a joke besides this insult to Metal

Very close. And I urge you keep trying about the bolded. They don't seem that abstruse or winded.

This is exactly what I was going for, though my analogy is imperfect. Megan Thee Stallion is clearly rap of some sort.

But RTJ was just Spin's Artist of the Year and included in almost every "Top Twenty" list of best albums of the year. The snub is ludicrous because the people voting should at least be in the know. It's not like an unheralded work of art came from nowhere. Their album, both in creation and distribution, is industry standard right now.

To be fair, the category Tull won was "Hard Rock/Heavy Metal," so it's not like the voters definitely thought Tull was a metal band.

However, the record Tull won for, Crest of a Knave, doesn't have a whole lot of hard rock on it either.

Not that the Grammys should ever be taken seriously.

We have like 70 years of history showing that they aren't.

Indeed. I'm not getting histrionic about it, which is why it's labeled as "lament." One cannot expect much from NARAS, and history is our guide, you are correct on that.

But usually there's a critical or commercial reason why it doesn't happen. And I just thought this one was one of the ones where both industry and critical consensus proved not to be enough. RTJ4 got snubbed for a nomination for some reason I can't figure out. I can see when records that neither have sales nor acclaim get overlooked, but this is one of the worst in recent memory. If the press hadn't lavished praise, if this wasn't a major label release that was wildly successful, if any of that -- I could certainly understand.

It's hard to fathom that this is just a snub because it didn't cross the desks of the nominators. There's something more at play here, and I can't figure out what it is.
