Good point. There is actually no question that he sold out. This is like nominating Scarlett Johannson in the "Women I'm Oddly Attracted To" thread.

Of course it is. What the hell is wrong with you?Allowing good songs to be in commercials is not selling out.
Wow never knew that back catalogue stuff. And my that blonde drummer looks like a plucky goer of a party girl
Her sex tape was amazing though! You know who had a great gimmick and sold out too soon... Jewel.
Oddly hot, awesome surfer girl juggs, appealed to men and women, and wrote her dopey half baked Joni Mitchell stuff. Had a great debut and sold millions with her "I live in my van" story.
And before that could be worn dry, the last I remembered, she was doing an "ironic" video of her Being sexy and dancing that seemed a lot more earnest than sexy. She lost all her steam way too soon
My favorite Weezer song. If you like them after they've sold out it doesn't count.Weezer was pretty bad. Beverly Hills?
Makes me want to strangle myself.
To whom?Underachievers said:Good point. There is actually no question that he sold out.
You are very bad at this.Underachievers said:Bruce Springsteen in a sense. Who gives a f**k what your political and moral beliefs are, shut up and play music.
So you're saying he is an underachiever? You are very bad at this.Underachievers said:Bruce Springsteen in a sense. Who gives a f**k what your political and moral beliefs are, shut up and play music.
Hey - and lets stand in front of an American flag for our album cover.Underachievers said:Bruce Springsteen in a sense. Who gives a f**k what your political and moral beliefs are, shut up and play music.
Lead Singer: “Hello Catalina Wine Mixer. How are ya? We are Uptown Girl. We are California’s preeminent 1980s Billy Joel cover band.”Billy Joel - His old stuff (Piano Man, 52nd Street, the Stranger) is so good, but he sold his soul to marry Christie Brinkley and has been churning out tripe garbage ever since.
Pyromania was awesome and the end of Leppard for me. Hysteria is awful.Def Leppard's later stuff was embarrassing given how awesome Pyromania and Hysteria were.
Wait...wat?Def Leppard's later stuff was embarrassing given how awesome Pyromania and Hysteria were.
Def Leppard's later stuff was embarrassing given how awesome Pyromania and Hysteria were.
Obviously we've all heard this before...Hysteria was obviously a more pop sound and one of the most commercially successful albums in the history of music. Those facts don't make Hysteria a sell out album IMHO.look up 'sell out' in the dictionary and there is a picture of the cover of the Hysteria album. no joke
I would think a tranny song for a commercial about a scooter is about as closely matched as it gets.Lou Reed
"Walk on the Wild Side" - a quintessential slice of perverse NYC street life sold out for a ####### Honda motor scooter.

Metallica. They got popular by fans passing around copies of their albums and shows. As soon as they started making real money, they clamped down on Napster and other sites that allowed people to share music. They ####in disgust me
Can someone explain to me what selling out is? All I've seen so far is a bunch of butt-hurt snobs who hate it when their favorites try something new.
Making bad songs to make money is selling out.
Came here to post this, although Zeppelin songs hawking Cadillacs is a close secondIce Cube
These are all terrible.
Just curious...what's your favorite band?"Selling out" is such a joke. As soon as a bunch of people like their music, they've "sold out" - some people are just dorky enough to think they deserve them because they were "first"
I'm sure these bands feelings are hurt that you think they "sold out"
Whatever.
Metallica was making "real money" before the Internet was invented.Metallica. They got popular by fans passing around copies of their albums and shows. As soon as they started making real money, they clamped down on Napster and other sites that allowed people to share music. They ####in disgust me
Was about to post the same thing. Some people don't know what selling out means.Allowing good songs to be in commercials is not selling out.

Lets say you establish a brand in a product, lets say its Soda. And you have built a business and formulated a taste that appeals to your market and you use Cane Sugar. And your soda grows and grows and you say, you know what, we could grow bigger if we used High Fructose Corn Syrup. We could make a lot more product and make a lot more money."Selling out" is such a joke. Sorry but there is nothing of artistical merit in those 1982-1984 songs. They were never more than a crappy garage band who finally decided to wear make-up.
The job of most businesses is to maximize revenue or profits. If, in doing what you said, he does 20x as much business as he did with cane sugar, but the initial 1x is alienated, I would say he succeeded.Lets say you establish a brand in a product, lets say its Soda. And you have built a business and formulated a taste that appeals to your market and you use Cane Sugar. And your soda grows and grows and you say, you know what, we could grow bigger if we used High Fructose Corn Syrup. We could make a lot more product and make a lot more money.
But in so doing, you alienate your customer base who grew your product initially.
Is it a "joke" if people complain about that product evolution?
How dare you put Barenaked Ladies in the same category as Smashmouth?I have a vague memory of seeing a box of children's cereal endorsed by Smash Mouth or one of those other lame bands (Barenaked Ladies maybe?) at the dollar store. They should have just boxed up their credibility and relevance put it in a clearance bin by the register.
