Listed below I put together some thoughts I had on the upcoming draft as I had some time the last day or so. Give thoughts, comments, criticisms as you see fit. I also added other possibilities of trading or other players they might be looking at. 1 Houston Texans – Reggie Bush RB, USC – Not a great fit and need for the Texans but the talent it too much to pass up here. Texans may look to trade out of this pick but the pressure may be too great to take a player at the #1 spot.Other Possibilities – QB Vince Young, Trade down2 New Orleans – Vince Young QB, Texas – Many are projecting Leinart here, but I think Young goes to give this franchise a face and put people in the seats which is the most important thing to New Orleans this year.Other Possibilities – QB Matt Leinart, Trade down3 Tennessee – Matt Leinart QB, USC – The heir apparent is in Tennessee now behind McNair. He should be a solid pro, but needs more surrounding him on offense.Other Possibilities – OT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, LB AJ Hawk4 New York Jets - D’Brickshaw Ferguson OT, Virginia – The best OT in the draft and the biggest need for the Jets that has an aging O-line. He’s a great pass blocker, but does need to add strength in the run game.Other Possibilities – RB Deangelo Williams, LB AJ Hawk5 Green Bay – AJ Hawk LB, Ohio State – The best defensive player in the draft…enough said.Other Possibilities – RB Lendale White, DE Mario Williams6 Oakland – Mario Williams DE, NC State – The guy could be the next Julius Peppers and that is too hard to pass on.Other Possibilities – DB Michael Huff, Trade down7 San Francisco – Deangelo Williams RB Memphis – He is flying up draft boards right now after his performance in Mobile this week. The 49ers reportedly liked his work ethic and team attitude. I think he’s the pick here.Other Possibilities – TE Vernon Davis, Trade down8 Buffalo – Haloti Ngata DT, Oregon – The guy is a force and dramatically improves this defense up front. I think he’s a top D lineman who will be a multiple pro-bowler.Other Possibilities – DB Michael Huff, TE Vernon Davis9 Detroit - Michael Huff DB, Texas - This would be a solid pick for the Lions as Fernando Bryant is likely gone and has lived up to his billing in Detroit. This would give Detroit’s defense a boost and should solidify their secondary.Other Possibilities – LB Chad Greenway, Trade down, QB Jay Cutler10 Arizona – Vernon Davis TE, Maryland – The Cardinals have needs on defense as well as QB and O line, but Davis is a rare talent and too good to pass up here. He would really open up things in a passing game that has great vertical talent.Other Possibilities – QB Jay Cutler, Trade up11 St. Louis – Chad Greenway OLB, Iowa – He had a great showing this week at the Senior Bowl and solidified himself as a top pick. He will fit well with this defense and improve their coverage and run stopping ability.Other Possibilities – OT Winston Justice, DB Jimmy Williams12 Cleveland – Winston Justice OT, USC – A big need for the Browns as their O-Line could use the upgrade. Justice could play either tackle spot in the pros and will start right away.Other Possibilities – OT Eric Winston, DB Jimmy Williams13 Baltimore - Jimmy Williams DB, Va. Tech – Williams is too good to pass up and this defense gets richer in the secondary with this addition. He is able to play safety as well as corner at the next level.Other Possibilities – RB Lendale White, OT Eric Winston14 Philadelphia – Lendale White RB, USC – What an awesome rushing attack they would have next year here with this pick. White would be the perfect compliment to Westbrook and would help at team that had difficulty running the ball last year.Other Possibilities – LB Demeco Ryans, DE Tamba Hali15 Atlanta – Tamba Hali DE Penn State – He’s a little short, but has a great motor, good pass rush skills and top intangibles. He will be a productive player at the next level.Other Possibilities – OT Eric Winston, Trade up16 Miami – Jay Cutler QB, Vanderbilt – The dolphins could use this pick elsewhere, but I think QB is their biggest need. O-Line is a possibility here, but Cutler’s potential is too great to pass up here.Other Possibilities – LB Demeco Ryans, Trade up17 Minnesota – Demeco Ryans OLB, Alabama – With the top CBs off the board, the Vikings take the best defensive player available.Other Possibilities – S Ko Simpson, Trade down18 Dallas – Eric Winston OT, Miami – The aging O-Line of the Cowboys gets a boost from Winston here. He is recovering from surgery in 2004 and should be back to full form this season.Other Possibilities – OT Jonathan Scott, OG Max-Jean Giles, Trade down19 San Diego – Ko Simpson S, South Carolina –Simpson is rising up draft boards fast and would provide a safety in their secondary they haven’t had since Harrison left.Other Possibilities – WR Santonio Holmes, Trade down 20 Kansas City –Santonio Holmes WR, Ohio State – The Chiefs are in desperate need of a playmaker on the outside and Holmes certainly provides that. Holmes could replace the aging Kennison and give them a real deep threat that’s fearless.Other Possibilities – DE Mathias Kiwanuku, Trade down21 New England – Laurence Maroney RB, Minnesota – Dillon’s age really showed this year and Maroney would provide the Pats with a good replacement when Dillon steps down.Other Possibilities – Trade up, LB Ernie Sims22 Denver (f/WAS) – Mathias Kiwanuku DE, Boston College – He falls in the draft farther than some predict, but his talent and work ethic make him a good pick here. This is a need for the Broncos as their pass rush could improve.Other Possibilities – Trade up, TE Leonard Pope23 Tampa Bay – Broderick Bunkley DT, Fla. St. – He has really risen up draft boards in the last week or so and would fill a need since Sapp left a few years ago_Other Possibilities – Trade up, TE Leonard Pope, OT Jonathan Scott24 Cincinnati – Rodrique Wright DT, Texas – Wright is a good, hard nosed DT who can help the Bengals stop the run on defense.Other Possibilities – TE Leonard Pope, Trade up25 New York Giants – Ernie Sims LB, Fla. St. – Seems to always be in the right place at the right time. He would really fill a need here at LB for the Giants with his aggressive style. Other Possibilities – Trade down, OT Jonathan Scott26 – Chicago - Leonard Pope TE, Georgia – Pope would be a great addition to the Bears who could use some additional weapons on offense.Other Possibilities – Trade up, TE Mercedes Lewis 27 Carolina – Jonathan Scott OT, Texas – Scott falls a little in the draft due to his lack of strength in the running game, but this is something that can be developed over time. He has good measurables besides that and makes a good pick here.Other Possibilities - OG Max-Jean Giles, CB Tye Hill28 Jacksonville – Mercedes Lewis TE, UCLA – Another weapon for Leftwich as this team is poised for a run. Lewis is a very good receiving threat would help open the running game.Other Possibilities – DT Claude Wroten, Trade up29 Denver – Chad Jackson WR, Florida – This is a need for the Broncos as they have not been able to get any of their young WRs step up and Smith isn’t getting younger.Other Possibilities – Trade up, OLB Manny Lawson30 Indianapolis – Bobby Carpenter LB, Ohio St. – I think Carpenter slides into the first round with his combination of size, speed and toughness. He would be a great addition to the Colts linebacking core as they were manhandled a little in the playoffs.Other Possibilities – CB Tye Hill, LB D’Qwell Jackson, OG Max-Jean Giles*31 Seattle – Tye Hill CB, Clemson – The Seahawks could use another corner and Hill is a good cover player who would fit well in their secondary, clearly the weak spot of the team.Other Possibilities – CB Antonio Cromartie, CB Ashtoun Youboty*32 Pittsburgh – Ashtoun Youboty CB, Ohio St. – This may be a surprise pick for the Steelers, but with many of the linebackers and running backs they want gone, they continue to address their secondary which was burned at times this year.Other Possibilities – OG Max-Jean Giles, Trade up, OLB Manny Lawson

Thank you for the post...I have said that any team that needs a OL, Brick has got to be there man as he and Hawk are the only sure fire players in this years class. (meaning they will be a star/solid pro regardless of where they go)

1. HOU- Ferguson, as good as Bush is, Kubiak has DD and Carr in the fold and and without a better O-Line, none of it will matter. I would bet they slide a bit to get him but none the less, he winds up in HOU.

2. NO- a team that needs a QB but will go with a vet in Payton's first year as HC. Deuce is the teams back so Bush does them no good. They NEED to trade down to ensure that they get the player they need the most, AJ Hawk.

3. TENN- cannot believe there fortune as they are looking at Bush, Lenart and Vince. The decision is easy as they run to the podium...Reggie Bush

4. NY Jets- While it will be tempting to go QB here, they will go Lendale White as the two players they coveted are off the board in Brick and Hawk.

5. GB, like NY, they are scratching their heads as the QB's are falling in a year that they don't want them too. Seeing the SC backs go they realize they cannot slide down to take DeAngelo so they grab him here at 5.

(NO THIS IS NOT A FANTASY DRAFT, I JUST BELIEVE THE QB's WILL FALL)

6. Raiders (lets assume they win the toss)- While Mario Williams would look great to them they cannot pass on the QB's that have fallen. The Raiders select the #1 QB in the draft, Jay Cutler

7. 49ers- Again, they look at Williams but decide to pursue a future Pro-Bowler in Chad Greenway who will replace one of the many FA's LB's from this dismal squad.

8. BILLS- like everyone else I predict the DT from Oregon, NGata goes here.

9. DET- again Mario Williams gets a look as does Michael Huff, but the new regime cannot believe that Leinart has dropped this far...bye Joey

10. ARI- Denny Green is screaming into the phone load enough that we all hear him...Vince Young

I know that this goes against all conventional wisdom but I believe the QB's will drop and that Cutler when it is all said and done is the first one taken.

Tom

Steelers won't pick a CB. McFadden and Taylor are locks to start at corner next year. DE, C, iLB.

Why would the Raiders take Jay Cutler over Matt Leinart? And why would they draft a QB when they just took Andrew Walter last year? I mean I guess they could, what do i know...You should go interview to be the Raiders head coach. It seems the life expectancy of Interviewees in the running seems to be about 3 days.

I like everything except for Davis at 10, too high i think Arizona would take Lendale before they go TE

Man, that Cutler kool-aid is strong stuff. :banned:

Steelers won't pick a CB. McFadden and Taylor are locks to start at corner next year. DE, C, iLB.
Maybe not...but with the people on the board at that point and the fact that they play the Bengals passing attack twice a year makes this a sensible pick. They also have to face the Pats and Colts with their passing attacks, so it would make sense as the corners are the best value at this point IMO.

Panthers will not pick a cb.
Probably not, but his talent is undeniable and would be hard to pass up. After all, you can never have too many good corners. They likely go OL or RB if one of the backs falls.

Other Possibilities – RB Lendale White, OT Eric Winston

14 Philadelphia – Lendale White RB, USC – What an awesome rushing attack they would have next year here with this pick.  White would be the perfect compliment to Westbrook and would help at team that had difficulty running the ball last year.

Other Possibilities – LB Demeco Ryans, DE Tamba Hali

15 Atlanta – Tamba Hali DE Penn State – He’s a little short, but has a great motor, good pass rush skills and top intangibles.  He will be a productive player at the next level.

Other Possibilities – OT Eric Winston, Trade up

16 Miami – Jay Cutler QB, Vanderbilt – The dolphins could use this pick elsewhere, but I think QB is their biggest need.  O-Line is a possibility here, but Cutler’s potential is too great to pass up here.

Other Possibilities –  LB Demeco Ryans,  Trade up

17 Minnesota – Demeco Ryans OLB, Alabama – With the top CBs off the board, the Vikings take the best defensive player available.

Other Possibilities –  S Ko Simpson, Trade down

18 Dallas – Eric Winston OT, Miami – The aging O-Line of the Cowboys gets a boost from Winston here.  He is recovering from surgery in 2004 and should be back to full form this season.

Other Possibilities – OT Jonathan Scott, OG Max-Jean Giles, Trade down

19 San Diego – Ko Simpson S, South Carolina –Simpson is rising up draft boards fast and would provide a safety in their secondary they haven’t had since Harrison left.

Other Possibilities – WR Santonio Holmes, Trade down

20 Kansas City –Santonio Holmes WR, Ohio State – The Chiefs are in desperate need of a playmaker on the outside and Holmes certainly provides that.  Holmes could replace the aging Kennison and give them a real deep threat that’s fearless.

Other Possibilities – DE Mathias Kiwanuku, Trade down

21 New England – Laurence Maroney RB, Minnesota – Dillon’s age really showed this year and Maroney would provide the Pats with a good replacement when Dillon steps down.

Other Possibilities – Trade up, LB Ernie Sims

22 Denver (f/WAS) – Mathias Kiwanuku DE, Boston College – He falls in the draft farther than some predict, but his talent and work ethic make him a good pick here.  This is a need for the Broncos as their pass rush could improve.

Other Possibilities – Trade up, TE Leonard Pope

23 Tampa Bay – Broderick Bunkley DT, Fla. St. – He has really risen up draft boards in the last week or so and would fill a need since Sapp left a few years ago.

Other Possibilities – Trade up, TE Leonard Pope, OT Jonathan Scott

24 Cincinnati – Rodrique Wright DT, Texas – Wright is a good, hard nosed DT who can help the Bengals stop the run on defense.

Other Possibilities – TE Leonard Pope, Trade up

25 New York Giants – Ernie Sims LB, Fla. St. – Seems to always be in the right place at the right time.  He would really fill a need here at LB for the Giants with his aggressive style.

Other Possibilities – Trade down, OT Jonathan Scott

26 – Chicago - Leonard Pope TE, Georgia – Pope would be a great addition to the Bears who could use some additional weapons on offense.

Other Possibilities – Trade up, TE Mercedes Lewis

27 Carolina – Jonathan Scott OT, Texas – Scott falls a little in the draft due to his lack of strength in the running game, but this is something that can be developed over time.  He has good measurables besides that and makes a good pick here.

Other Possibilities - OG Max-Jean Giles, CB Tye Hill

28 Jacksonville – Mercedes Lewis TE, UCLA – Another weapon for Leftwich as this team is poised for a run.  Lewis is a very good receiving threat would help open the running game.

Other Possibilities – DT Claude Wroten, Trade up

29 Denver – Chad Jackson WR, Florida – This is a need for the Broncos as they have not been able to get any of their young WRs step up and Smith isn’t getting younger.

Other Possibilities – Trade up, OLB Manny Lawson

30 Indianapolis – Bobby Carpenter LB, Ohio St. – I think Carpenter slides into the first round with his combination of size, speed and toughness.  He would be a great addition to the Colts linebacking core as they were manhandled a little in the playoffs.

Other Possibilities – CB Tye Hill, LB D’Qwell Jackson, OG Max-Jean Giles

*31 Seattle – Tye Hill CB, Clemson – The Seahawks could use another corner and Hill is a good cover player who would fit well in their secondary, clearly the weak spot of the team.

Other Possibilities – CB Antonio Cromartie, CB Ashtoun Youboty

*32 Pittsburgh – Ashtoun Youboty CB, Ohio St. – This may be a surprise pick for the Steelers, but with many of the linebackers and running backs they want gone, they continue to address their secondary which was burned at times this year.

Other Possibilities – OG Max-Jean Giles, Trade up, OLB Manny Lawson
(NO THIS IS NOT A FANTASY DRAFT, I JUST BELIEVE THE QB's WILL FALL)6. Raiders (lets assume they win the toss)- While Mario Williams would look great to them they cannot pass on the QB's that have fallen. The Raiders select the #1 QB in the draft, Jay Cutler
Man, that Cutler kool-aid is strong stuff. :banned:
I wrote this AFTER Cutler played yesterday. He did not impress me as much as he did during the season leading up to this game. However, I do not believe Leinart has the arm and is more of a Pennington and I am one of the few that believes Young is not going to be a star in this game. That being said, the Raiders need a QB if Collins leaves and if they decide to go with another vet, they should just restructure him.

As for Walter, I would not want to bank on him but then again we have seen other 4th round QB's become decent players so it could happen again.

Tom

If the 9'er take a RB (unless it is Bush) in the 1st round, I will be retiring my Freddie Salomon jersey. Damit, I hope you are wrong.

Why does the "aging" Eddie Kennison need to be replaced? By a rookie no less?
Maybe because it usually takes WRs a few years to get adjusted to the league. I think most would agree that the Chiefs could use help at WR...

That would make my day....

No, the chiefs could use help at WR with someone over 6 feet tall. Trent Green wouldn't ever throw an INT if he had a pair of 6'5 receivers. Instead he has to feed the ball into triple covered Tony Gonzalez. He'll find no help in this year's draft.

But the Chiefs could sweep up Jurevicius.

Not that any of this matters since they will be using the 1960s Cleveland Browns playbook for the next decade.

Solid mock. Just a little homer insight on this pick. Minnesota is loaded with young outside linebackers;Napolean Harris - Former #1 pick who came over in the Randy Moss trade.

Dontarrious Thomas - 2nd round pick two years ago, still has upside.

EJ Henderson - 2nd round pick and former Butkus award winner.

Raonall Smith - 2nd round pick that has been plagued by injuries. Probably not on the team next year.

Keith Newman - Solid contributor with some experience.

However, Minnesota is weak at middle linebacker and with Tomlin coming aboard to install the cover-2, Minnesota needs a middle linebacker with some speed.

I think Gabe will be higher than Wright on the Bengals board. He is a monster and that's what the Bengals need.

I doubt Pats will go RB in the first round. It's not Bellicheck's style and Dillon's issues seemed more because his calf was hurt than anything else. Of course, he could surprise, but I think he'd be looking to draft a RB in the later rounds because Dillon probably has a least one more productive year in him.

I doubt if the Bengals take either one of those guys. Neither one has the motor that Marvin likes in his DEF players. They both take too many plays off. I suspect they sign a DE/DT in FA again and try to develop someone they take lower in the draft. DTs take a few years to develop into the league, I cant remember the last one to be successful right out of college.I see them going SS, CB or TE unless some BPA falls to them that they cant pass up. To be honest, this draft seems to be deep in all of their need positions, I can see them trading down.

Yeah, this is one of the picks I struggled with. I think they want to get one of the top corners, but they likely will be gone. I don't see them going D line, but O line would also be a possibility. They could surpise and take Simpson there and put him at safety. Many think RB is a lock here, but I just don't see it. Perhaps they go TE as well. They have lots of options and may even trade down as I stated. Good points on the LBs.

Steelers won't pick a CB. McFadden and Taylor are locks to start at corner next year. DE, C, iLB.
i firmly agree, both have stepped up considerably this year. Ike Taylor has shut down the likes of Marvin Harrison, Rod Smith, and Chad Johnson to relatively small numbers this playoffs, and I would welcome McFadden stepping into the other CB spot, for i believe he is the real deal.edit to add that i think that the steelers go OT or OG, the line has underachieved at many times during the year, and the depth behind most of the line positions is nothing to shout about.

also look for the steelers to draft a pass rushing DE, tall and speedy WR, or a big time bruising RB to replace Bettis.

I put that into my explanation and other possibilities. The more I think about it, I like the idea of the Steelers taking OLB Manny Lawson with their first round pick. He very well could sneak into round 1 and would have to be with a team that uses the 3-4.

Bills either take a DT or OL. They have Everret as their TE who was drafted in the 3rd round last year and was hurt all year, so they won't be looking at TEs at all. They might take a CB if they choose not to resign Clements.

would make my day too. i'll be first in line to buy lendale jerseylendale + westbrook = new thunder and lightning

there are a lot of headscratcher picks in this mock. You have a lot of teams drafting to replace veterans that are still capable of playing at a high level. I just don't see a team like SF drafting anything but defense unless Bush fell into their laps. They have need positions across the board on defense.for Tampa, drafting anything but guard/tackle with this pick is silly. Kiper has them taking Derek Hagan (LOL) though, so I guess they could be worse off ;) .I am also confused by the Falcon pick of Hali. They had a big year for injuries on that DL, and replacements like Lavalai fared pretty well IMO. This unit led the league in sacks last year if I'm not mistaken. They really need the most help in the secondary, where they could use upgrades at safety and CB.I kind of like that Cutler pick to Miami, but since every draft I've read has them "surprising" everyone there, that means to me that it's never going to happen. Maybe it will, but ehhh... If no one bites on him in hte top 5 or 7, he'll probably fall to the middle of the 2nd or 3rd round, because it means he's not what everyone hyped him up to be.

Funny, I was going to say the same thing about your mock...Look, it's all speculation on our part at this point as the whole process isn't done, including free agency. Things will clear up more then. Besides, teams don't always only take positions they need on draft day. They take talent, often times to replace older players they have who still are playing well or move them out early to save money and get younger. This has become very commonplace in the NFL.

They won't take one in the first round, but I'm sure they'll be looking for CB depth in the later rounds - even as early as the second. Townsend likely won't be back if he thinks he can start somewhere else and this is Willie's last year. That leaves Ike Taylor, McFadden, and Colclough as the only guys with any experience. So again, a first rounder is out of the question unless they felt they couldn't pass him up, but they must address CB at some point

.

While White will probably be a great value pick here, I do not see the Eagles drafting a RB early. They just signed Westbrook to a long term deal. Unless they feel that Westbrook is not gonna recover from his injury, they will not go RB here. They will most likely sign a marginal RB that can run inbetween the tackles for cheap. They drafted Moats high in last years draft and he is a gamebreaker like Westbrook with less polish in the passing game.I have seen other mock drafts that predicted that Santonio Holmes will be the Eagles selection at this pick. I doubt that will happen either. They drafted Reggie Brown with a 2nd round pick last year and he will be a starter. They will not start a rookie WR next to Brown. More than likely they will sign a quality free agent to start along side Brown. What they will draft is a Defensive lineman or maybe even an offensive lineman if I had to predict. Whichever position is not adequately covered in free agency, I think they will address first round in the draft.
