No way to know what to think of press reports. I'd believe Geddy or Alex. But if he was close to this guy then it's possible he knew.Me too. Great song.

I'm in your camp that the end of the band was more to do with the fact that his arms and hands just couldn't take it any more.

Agreed. He had shoulder issues and chronic tendinitis. 40 years of drumming like he did takes its toll.
Not a big Godsmack fan but I've seen articles before where Sully speaks of his respect and relationship with Neil. These were from last yearMe too. Great song.

Any thoughts about whether Geddy and Alex might get together and do some music together in some form, whether it is as Rush or something else? Neither of them have done much since Rush stopped touring. In light of Neil's Brain Cancer which I am sure they knew about, I could see them not doing anything without him, while he was still with us. Selfishly, I would like to hear more music from both of them.

at what point do you say "damn, I'm 67 years old....and a millionaire! Why don't I just do a whole lot of nothing and hang with the family til this fun ride is over".
I'd think, ESPECIALLY with Neil's death, they might reassess their life/work balance and lean more towards hanging with kids (and grandkids?)

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with them retiring, not touring, enjoying their families, or not doing much of anything. IF that is what they want to do. But you don't play music at such a high level for so long without having a passion for it. I just want them to be able to do what they are passionate about. If that means recording more music for the public to enjoy, I am all for that.

I'm a musician so I get the passion to want to play (recreationally) til I die.
But I was passionate about my career, put in tons of extra hours and hard work, and got to the top of the game at the best place to work in my industry. But now I'm 52, put in my 25 years, and am now looking for ways to "coast to retirement". My reply is more along that lines with my life experience.
Also, as a Rush fan, I don't LOVE any of their last 5 albums. So I'm fine with them being done.

this being said, I have a drive to LA in 2 weeks and I plan on listening to EVERY Rush Album on the drive there and back, especially the newer ones that I haven't listened to enough/given enough of a chance to grow on me. I'm really looking forward to the long, 6+ hour drive because of this chance to listen to all these Rush albums (and realizing that 12-ish hours round trip is actually not enough time to listen to them all. Crazy!)
I will be steering-wheel-drumming the hell out of these songs for the whole drive.

I’d be interested if Alex and/or Geddy did anything else, but I think if either was gonna do anything major by now, they would’ve already. Neither is getting any younger. I’d love to see Geddy do a solo album with guests vocalists and using all kinds of different players on various songs. I’m sure he’d have no problem getting almost anyone to participate.

Alex especially has been doing music with other musicians recently. I keep seeing articles showing up on a Rush-fan Facebook group I belong to.
Geddy has been traveling around everywhere promoting his Bass book. Fans have been talking about how friendly he has been in the meet and greets. Interesting to note that he never mentioned anything about Neil's declining health in these events.
As for retiring, this is something that is in their blood. They will likely never do anything related to Rush again, but I do see them making music with others and maybe with each other, just not Rush.

They've said you can't replace anyone so Rush is over. Geddy has said they were family to each other and Peart coming in 6 years after Rush started makes no difference. That is the honorable thing to do when such a respected loved important member of a band passes imo.

Agreed, but it sounds weird to say that Peart came in 6 years after Rush started. Hell, not even Alex and Geddy were both always in the band in its earliest incarnations. Maybe I am weird, but I talk about a band in the context of the beginning being their first real tour or first official album release. The first album was released in the spring of 1974 and Peart was in the band before they even toured on it in the U.S., so Peart was basically in the band for 99.99999% of the band's history, IMO.

The Police were supposed to be done forever, but even they have reformed from time to time. Granted, they don't have any deceased members. But then ... see also Led Zeppelin and especially The Who (who still tour!).

Zeppelin and The Who lost their drummers at a young age, though. Big difference. And it's not like Rush lost Peart when they were still an active band. They basically retired in 2015 and it is now 2020.
I don't see Geddy and Alex ever feeling the need to do a one-off. For what purpose? The fans already got the great send-off tour, the band got a great proper ending, and they don't need the money. And they are not the type to do it to milk the fans or anything like that.
Sure, it's fun to think about who could play the drums with them for a night, but I just don't think it is realistic at this point.

This. Zero chance Rush does anything of significance with touring by using a different drummer. A one-off? Sure, why not, especially with someone like Portnoy, but even then I suspect they’d craft a new band name just for that event. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the breadth of call-outs to Rush over the past week. I would have thought Peart’s passing would’ve been met with crickets by the mainstream world and gnashing of teeth by folks like us. Nice to see him get some recognition even if it is posthumous.

I think Marco Minnemann would be the likely choice in that circumstance, as he has worked with Alex Lifeson recently and still has the chops and endurance to do Neil's original drum parts justice, but I still say the odds of it happening are about 1 billion to 1.

Still sad that Peart is gone. Been to too many Rush concerts to count. Instrumentally they were so good.
In the last two years two of my favorites are gone. Neil Peart and Chester Bennington. Bummer. Would have liked another 15 years with those guys doing their thing.

Most bootlegs have bad sound but someone at that radio station I think did a nice job of recording it.

For sure. What really stands out is the youthful fire and energy in their performance. Granted, Rush always brought it live, but that show sounds like a young band full of fire that is ready to take over the world.

Reminds me of listening to live recordings of my band over the years, in that you listen to the recording later and say "did we really play that song that fast live?!?" I never really cared for War Paint until a year or so ago. It just clicked one day on a random listen of Presto. Still not a favorite by any means, but it went from being what I considered one of their few clunkers to a song I like a lot now.

Deep Tracks was 24/7 Rush until yesterday I think. One of the DJ's mentioned that a dedicated channel was being discussed. Not sure whether or not they're going to do it.

BTW, my user name here is because of the Rush song of the same name. Even though neither the Vapor Trails album nor the Ghost Rider song are favorites of mine, I think I signed up for here shortly after its release, and Ghost Rider sounded cool, so there ya go.
