My cat died (1 Viewer)

Sorry to hear; that's a solid 19 years, though. I'll pour one out and smoke a little catnip for Mouse tonight.

We got one cat left; born in 99. Two other cats we got after her; another one born in 99 and the youngest in 01, have both since passed.

Neither my wife or I grew up having cats as pets, and originally I was opposed to getting one when we moved in together, but I'm glad we did. Ours were always inside only and turned out to be pretty chill, loving pets with unique personalities.

We have to guess on the exact date, but we are pretty sure she was going to turn 20 next month. She certainly lived longer than I expected, and fortunately, went down pretty fast, before I could even get her to a vet.

Sorry about your cat. We just put down my wife's 17 year old cat 2 days ago, so I know what you and your family are going through. Maybe Mouse and Kisses will meet each other over the Rainbow Bridge.

We have had several Korats. I think Mouse was our 4th. Some of them died very young. I think the oldest was about 12, but Mouse was from a totally different breeder. Very good genetics.

I'm also glad that she died at home, and I didn't have to make that decision about if I am going to be there with her when they put her down. Simultaneously, the roof was being redone which caused a lot of noise and dust and I think accelerated it.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. :( RIP, Mouse. 19 years old (or nearly 20) is fantastic. She was beautiful! Thanks for sharing the pic and my condolences for the loss of your friend.

Oh, funny story. Our other cat, vanished. Freaked out by the roofers. And we live out in the desert and have lost cats to coyotes before. I thought I heard her on the roof. Next AM roofers show up and almost finish the job. When they leave, I hear noises and it sounds like scratching in the AC vents. The cat does not have a loud cry, so I had been looking for her all night. About 1 AM, I hear the noises again and I call for her, and I hear her, I open the door to the AC/Heater unit and I can see her through a small hole, up in the roof.

So, I go up on the roof with a flashlight, find a hammer and an area they patched there, I could not get the nails out with a hammer, and when I tried to pul it up, the particle board just broke, but eventually I broke a big enough hole in the thing that the cat could get out, and she wouldn't come out, so I had to reach in and pull her out. Scraped my arm all up. She's still freaked out.

Woulda been pretty bad to lose both cats in one day.

Sorry to hear it, OG.

We've got an 18 year old ourselves. Some days he seems like he's on his last legs, but once in a while still seems like a kitten. Most days, he's just like a funny senile old man, and we are basically considering this bonus time.

We got him a couple of months before we got married. It'll be really weird when he's no longer around.

19/20 years is an impressive run. Mouse must have been taken care of well. RIP

Bonus time is a good way to put it. Anything over 16 really is good. It is hard to get used to. I had her with me when I lived in NYC, Seattle, Phoenix ... and she was always happy to see me when I came home, rolling over to get her tummy rubbed. Even on 9/11 when I lived in Hoboken, NJ. I'll never forget opening the door after a very long, very bad day, and there she is up in the window, where you could see the WTC from, and for her it was like any other sunset. Just a normal day for her. Gives you some perspective.

i wish I could have turned her magically into a 20 year old Thai chick that was totally in love with me and would do anything I said.

She was a good natural hunter too. A "Mouser" that actually caught mice when I lived in a shoebox in NYC.

ETA: also small and grey

F**k me they live that long? Son of a B**ch

I feel ya bro. I've never owned a cat but I have had to say goodbye to some 19 year old #####. It is sad for a little while, but then you realize 20 year old ##### is pretty good too.

Never had a cat, there's nothing my dog likes better than me saying "Let's go to the Kitty Cat House" she makes a beeline up the street to the house that has two cats and waits at the front door until they open it. "Big P" is the main house cat and my dog and Big P sniff each other through the crack in the door. They seem to like each other. We haven't let them play with each other yet, not sure how that would turn out as my dog is 1/2 springer and springers instinctively seem to want to kill cats.

i don't know what "Big P" stands for, I can speculate but havent asked.
