:hifive:Shoot me a PM as we get closer, we can grab a beer beforehand if you'd like
Cool, I'll try to remember. Still trying to convince a friend to make the trip with me, but luckily the only 2 forums I visit on the interwebs are FBGs and teh MMJ forum, and there's a ton of people over there goin to the T5 shows

I have listened to MMJ and to me they are hit and miss. Sometimes really good but sometimes just lost. My questions and I dont want to come across as a music snob but do they have enough material for a 5 night run? Or is it the same show 5 times like a U2 or Bruce show?

Its a special, one time 5 night run. They have 5 albums. Each night theyre playing 1 album, plus songs from EPs, b-sides, and covers that were released around the time that album was or covers they were playing certain tours. They have like 5-6 EPs, around a dozen b-side songs, and a ton of covers (and they rarely play covers anymore with the exception of festival or NYE shows). A lot of the songs off the first 2 albums they never play anymore, and the last night theyre playing the 5th album and debuting new songs from their upcoming album.I think they might have said fan favorites will be played at more than 1 show (ie One Big Holiday, Dondante, Gideon, etc), but Id guess they limit those songs to 10 or less based on how the band has described the setlists to be.

What a show! Im not sure if the Jacket sucked all the energy out of me, or if it was the tube rips I took after the show for the first time in like 3 years, but I slept til 5PM today

Awesome show, Ive only seen them 2.25 times, but it was hands down the best of the bunch. I hadnt been following the setlists as all because I wanted to be as surprised as possible, and they def delivered a few surprises. At Dawn > Where to Begin. Touch Me Once (in the encore after Touch Me Twice). Easy Morning Rebel. I was floored they played a Steam Engine after already playing Dondante. Gideon caught me totally off guard as I didnt expect it in the encore. I had gathered that they had only been playing the end of Lay Low in another thread, so I was ecstatic they played the entire thing. As far as Im concerned, OBH shouldnt be played anywhere but last and it was the perfect ending to a great show. Circuital was sweet. The Jacket was on point and just pumping the tunes out. JJ was on fire.

Love that Patrick busted out a Polamalu jersey and Terrible Towel for the encore! I liked that it was the all gold and black throwback jerseys as well. I wish they did that at the beginning of the show, crowd probably wouldve been even more psyched. I had actually brought a Polamalu jersey that I was going to throw on stage, but I forgot it in the car. I guess it didnt matter all that much!

Apparently there were complaints of ppl talking during slower songs, but I cant say I had the same problem with the crowd. I was probably 15-20 feet back centerstage, had a ton of room to rock out, and the crowd was great and energized. No talking problems whatsoever. I didnt leave my spot the entire show, so all I saw was the people in front of me and the crowd was all about the boys.

Someone that met the band said Patrick said the band felt great walking off the stage, and I wouldnt doubt based on how they looked. All of them looked like they were having a great time. Hopefully someone recorded this epicness last night!!

Great set. Despite their mediocre last album, listening to Okonokos right now, this is still my favorite live band right now. Hope the new one is great again.

You can find it for $13 on Amazon. What I have though is what someone made called "The Okonokos Project" which is more than on the physical Okonokos album and they explain as:

"This is a complete re-imagining of the various available Okonokos releases by My Morning Jacket, all in lossless audio. I noticed that all of the different incarnations of the Okonokos album had different track listings and song orders, so I was curious to see if a more complete and accurate release could be achieved using the existing elements. Using the set lists from the two Fillmore concerts (the source for all Okonokos footage), I have re-ordered all tracks into the closest possible representation of the theactual performed song order. Various custom audience cross-fade edits were required to make this project one, seamless experience. Now, for the first time, all tracks from the Okonokos CD release, DVD release, and Acoustic Chorale bonus DVD are together in one place and in the closest approximation of their original order. To this end, order priority has been afforded to night one for songs shared by both performances. Songs unique to one performance or the other were added where they were performed in relation to the shared tracks."

You can download it HERE

ETA: That Steam Engiene blog is a great place to find live Jacket and some other stuff to download

Everything officially is a go for me as I just finalized my transportation to NYC (Megabus $72 round trip Pittsburgh to NYC  )...Cant believe the start of the T5 run is only 5 days away. Ecstatic. :pickle:

I havent watched it yet since I worked late yesterday, but here's a link to MMJs hour long Live On Letterman performance last night

They also played

on teh actual Letterman show last night

Saw them with Petty. FANTASTICfinally punched the ticket to see them do "Z" next Friday.
Nice...Im pretty sure the 1st 2 nights arent even sold out. Theyre going to play a ton of songs they never play anymore on those nights, definitely worth going if you can make it. Same for It Still Moves which will probably be the highlight show for me, but thats sold out. ISM and Z seem to be tough tickets at this point

I don't know if it was a re-run or what, but I watched them on Letterman last night and rewound that song at least 5 times. ;)

I almost bought Evil Urges just because I want to see them do some of those songs (likely Highly Suspicious). Not my favorite album, but curious to see them do it live. Plus, I'd imagine there will be a ton of add ons and a super long set list that night.

There's going to be a ton of add ons every night as theyre going to play songs off their EPs (they have like 6 or so EPs on each night depending when those were released), as well as the covers they played on the various tours.Evil Urges night is going to have at least a half dozen songs from their album that comes out next year though, including the one they debuted a couple months ago, Circuital (which IMO is pretty fantastic live)

FYI for anyone whose going to the shows this week, about 30+ Jacket fans from the bands forum are pregaming at McGee's pub on 240 W 55th St (Between Broadway and 8th Avenue) before each show. I know nothing about it except the person who set it up said she got the 2nd floor reserved and that starting at 4pm they have a bunch of $4 specials and that its a 10 minute walk from Terminal 5. Oh, and thats its the How I Met Your Mother bar.

WOW

What a show

That was ridiculous, and TTF is likely my least favorite MMJ album

Can't wait for the rest of the week

ETA: Johnny Quaid played with them!

:lmao:they played circuital and another one this summer.

Very good show. Not as rockin as last night (until the encore), as At Dawn is just mellow as ####. Loved the encore though, highlight was undoubtedly a brilliant cover of Black Sabbath to close the show.

Thanks for this thread. Just downloaded 'Z' last night and I'm loving it. Also got some of the live tracks and they sound killer live.

Say I'm flying into town tomorrow (hey, TU and NYC peeps!) and looking to crash Friday's Z show. Are tickets still available, or likely to be available from scalpers in loco? :kicksrock:

Think its sold outI would try to go to McGees (55th bet 8th and 9th) beforehand for the preparty, wouldn't be surprised if you can't find a ticket there

or Jakes Saloon also (57th and 10th

There will certainly be some scalpers out in front, but not sure what they will be asking (and some of those have reportedly been counterfeits)

Let's grab a beer at some point!

Was standing about 15 feet from stage on JJ's side, right in front of the stacks on teh stage

Drums were way HIGH in the mix

By the encore my chest literally hurt from the reverberations

Hurt in a good way

I got mine off stub hub, but it might be too late for that. There should be scalpers. TU prob has seen some.

Abrantes:

Not sure if you are going to check this thread tomorrow, but I got you a ticket for Z on Fri. I will PM you also, but wanted to post here in case you check in here.

Great show tinight BTW

Encore was:

tonight i'll be staying here with you (Dylan)

how could i know

sooner

head held high (VU)

It Makes No difference (The Band)

All Night Long (Lionel Richie!!)

I would sum up the 3 nights as:

Night 1: Ignition

Night 2: Transition

Night 3: Celebration

So many emotions revolving around Z

One of the most important albums of my life with regard to where I was when it came ut

Tomorrow feels like catharsis

I had a blast last night....man, they are tight. Enjoy the rest of it!

That show was bananas. Literally. Z was awesome throughout, but the closing 21 minute Dondante was EPIC. Don't remember the whole encore but I do know The Who's Quick One (awesome), Prince's I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, Funkadelic's Hit it or Quit it were played. Sick. They closed with Careless Whisper. And at the end Jim James and the band threw Bananas into the crowd, exhorting us to sing along to the outro. Was hilarious and awesome. James added a spirited spoken word support of George Michael.

Abrantes made it in, and I'm pretty sure he enjoyed the #### out of the show.

Sitting here in a bar having a beer. Still have a smile on my face. This week has been amazing.

Aw, sorry I missed you, man. Came into McGee's round six to meet up with TU, and we were there shootin' the #### basically 'til showtime.First time seeing MMJ live, and my face hurts from too much rocking and grinning like a fool the whole time. Cool place, the people around us were rocking, and most importantly, so was the band. Looooved the whole thing (great vibe during "Gideon"), and the encore was sick. Great times, and it was awesome to meet TU.

Oh, and opening act Holly Miranda was pretty impressive too.
