My no-relief team (1 Viewer)

10 team, 5x5, h2h. My strategy was to come out of the draft with no closers, reasoning that there will be the normal breakdowns and turnover. In h2h it's obviously easier to jump back into a category when opportunity arises. A couple of things I wanted to be sure to do was to trust my strategy and trust my projections. I am not personally as high on Coco Crisp and Aubrey Huff as the projections are, but some guys are bound to break out, and it may as well be them. The league starts 9 pitchers and 14 hitters. Wound up with 13 SP in one form or another. Knowing what kind of imbalance I was creating before the draft made things a lot simpler.

SP: Sheets, Myers, Bedard, Haren, Cain, Escobar, Contreras, Patterson, Padilla, Reyes, R. Hill, Garza, Pedro.

C: Laird

1B: Teixeira

2B: Kinsler

3B: A. Ramirez

SS: Furcal

DH: Konerko

UT: Huff

MI: Durham

CI: Gordon

OF: Crawford

OF: Holliday

OF: Damon

OF: Rios

OF: Crisp

Bench: C. Young, Betemit.

This team may not win the league out of the draft, but I think going all starters gives me as good a platform as any to build.

You a big Rangers fan?

I love your starters but taking no closers could really hurt. Im not crazy about that strategy. And your lineup isnt even that strong. I dont think I like that team at all. But like I said you have enough good starters to make a move or 2 to improve. But I wouldnt wait too long.

No, not a Rangers fan. Just happened that way. Also left Aramis Ramirez off the offense.

I dunno, I'm sorta on the fence with this team. I just don't see the point of absolutely tanking a category, but then say you're going to fill in as the season goes. Why not replace (during the draft) a pitcher like Contreras or Patterson with a guy like Wickman to give yourself at least a base in that category? You'd still be able to have all the starters you currently have except 1, maybe 2, that would allow you to make a trade for another RP.

It may turn out all wrong, but I'm betting I can make my team better by starting from strength in starting pitching. Contreras and Patterson might not pan out, but they're both opening day starters and a QS by them gives them more perceived value than a save by Wickman. There's no doubt I'm going to lose saves the first week.

First trade is done. Turned Cain and Haren into Tejada. Will have two open pitching spots, after I stow Furcal on the IR. The tag team of Octavio Dotel and Salomon Torres is on the wire; however, I'm up against Wagner, Street, Nathan, and Putz week one (guy going the other extreme). May bypass those two for some elite middle relief.

I'd work the waiver wire if there are no limits and get a closer to plug in while your starters are off. No matter who your opponents closers are, you can win the catagory on any given week as long as you have some saves yourself.
