My prediction for HUGE breakout sleeper (1 Viewer)

Leon Washington will be this years HUGE fantasy breakout player. Last year he had a very quiet 8 TDs, 47 receptions, and 800 combined offensive yards. This season Leon is expected to focus more on offense and less on special teams. Thomas Jones isn't getting any younger. I could see an MJD type season from Leon this year, with 1200+ combined offensive yards, 60 receptions and 10 TDs. Obviously his value is even higher in PPR leagues, around the RB2 range.

Thoughts??

Just thinking the same thing the other day. He could really step up this year and be a star. Guy's got the tools.

I expect better numbers for Leon, but I'm not sure that Leon is going to have a huge breakout season because he will be part of a three-back committee.

I've been pleading for Leon to get more touches these past couple of years (he's the only playmaker on that offense). Thank God Mangini is gone.

The Jets are going to run and run, and run some more this season. I do see better numbers for Leon, but Shonn Greene will get a good amount of carries this season. The biggest impact will be to TJ's numbers. I'd be very wary of drafting pedestrian Thomas Jones this year.

Including all of 'em at the goal line, if you believe what you read. That's the main worry for Leon owners. Long distance or bust.

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Shonn Greene flashed some of the play-making ability in yesterday's intrasquad scrimmage that the Jets envisioned when they traded up to grab him in the third round of this year's draft. The rookie running back displayed his power and quickness in the team's first game simulation.Greene, playing with a gimpy right ankle, also showed some surprising versatility on a 33-yard reception."I'm not sure he was asked to do a whole lot of that in college," coach Rex Ryan said after the scrimmage. "They just turned around and gave it to him. I think we all saw why they gave it to him so much. He is a talented runner. He's got great vision. Everything we thought he was. And the fact he's playing with an ankle injury. That speaks volumes about this young man."Greene had a nifty 11-yard run against the first-team defense in the first quarter. The former Iowa star bounced off a pile on the right side before bouncing it to the outside."If you want to be a complete back, you got to be able to do those things -- catching and blocking," said Greene. "I just go on the field and do what the coaches ask me and let my talent take over. It was good to get the pads thumping."Greene hadn't practiced with the offense since injuring his right ankle on a 1-on-1 pass blocking drill Sunday."I'm not 100 percent yet," he admitted. "My adrenaline got going so I didn't feel it at times. After some sets, I would feel it. But it's coming along."Ryan admitted the rookie will play a significant role this season."We got a pretty good stable of backs," Ryan said. "When he's in there, we know what he can do. I would think that he's going to get his share of carries."

Drafted both Greene and Washington in my 1st draft. Counting on on that defense to step up and the Jets establishing a good run game. Thomas Jones may still get his this year but if he doesn't hold up, Greene or Washington is going to be great value.

If only they had a QB that would prevent 8/9 in the box on DEF.
That's what they said about Atlanta last year. :loco:
It's also what was said about guys like Alex Smith in SF and Leinart in AZ. Not all of them come up smelling like roses. Also factor in the Jets do not exactly have threatening receivers. I don't know why opposing defenses would be willing to play the pass when the run is clearly their best offense.

I'd be very wary of drafting pedestrian Thomas Jones this year.
He has had 1,300 plus yards 5 years in a row. He is getting older but he does not have a lot of mileage on the tires. I think he has another year or two in him.

It's about a decrease in opportunities. The Jets are clearly going to a three-back unit and they have promised to get Washington more involved in the offense.Jones only converted 11 of 22 on goaline and short-yardage attempts. Green will take at least half of those attempts imo.TJ might get around 1,000 yards, but people looking to repeat last year's 15 tds are in for a surprise. I'll guess about 6 tds. Like Routilla wrote, defenses will be stacked against the run.

Greene is going to hurt Washington's FF numbers (eventually). Greene is tailor-made for their offense & the new regime. By 2010, I really believe Greene could be a monster.

Can someone explain why this is? Schottenheimer was retained as the OC so it would be logical to think they run a similar offense at times this year. not sure why Jones has to endure a major decrease. I like Leon just fine but I don't think it is a shoe in for him to eclipse 1,000 yds and have 60+ receptions this year...Thomas Jones has had 290-310 carries for the past 4 years spanning 2 teams, guy is durable and has a solid OL to run behind.

Because they drafted their #1 RB in the draft. The Jets will be very run heavy this year. Probably in the top five in run/pass ratio.

Leon Washington just isn't big/durable enough to take the amount of punishment needed to amass some of these lofty expectations many of you are hoping for. This doesn't even take into account the other two running backs in the mix, a rookie quarterback, and a new offensive system. Too much Kool-Aid in this thread for me.

This is a fallacy. It's not the miles that wears down a player it's the age. I believe someone did a study that stated that guys that got more carries early could handle more carries later, not the other way around. The body takes longer to heal based on age not on prior hits. TJ has one more year in the sun if he can keep the other guys off the field. If he falters, doesn't play through pain, etc, he will be relegated to the bench. The team needs to see what it has in Leon and Greene have and will give them a chance to get on the field, particularly if TJ gets dinged.

Back to the original post, if the Jets have solid QB play then this could happen. If they don't it's going to be a long year for all Jets RB's.

I agree with this.

Is that Jets94 sarcasm in there? Green is not their #1 RB, not even close right now. if what you say is true Chase, and I bleieve it is, then Thomas Jones is a huge value int he 4th/5th round of a lot of drafts and I bet he clears 275 carries again for the 5th year in a row. Add in some catches and he is a 300 touch RB...not easy to find int he 4th/5th round. How those Ninny Lions gonna do this year skipper?

the Jets are going to be an interesting team to watch. the QB situation???? TJ, Leon, Shonn and the distribution between them. will the rookie be able to get on the field? will he be able to pick up blitzes? rookie QB and rookie RB on the field together?everyone seems to think TJ's numbers have nowhere to go but down. i tend to agree, but couldnt he be the workhose for one more yr?my gut tells me the RB's will be a crapshoot week to week unless an injury clears things up.

I think Leon provides a great late pick as a by week filler. I don't believe long term he will be a fantasy monster, I think his value is with the Jets Team as opposed to a Fantasy back. PPR leagues could do worse than Washington. I think folks are going to grab DMAC and Reggie Bush too early in re-drafts this year, all the while I think you can get similar production from Washington much later in the draft. Again a good RB3 for filling in on by weeks, and should one of your two main studs go down, could provide enough points to keep your team afloat.
