CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Shonn Greene flashed some of the play-making ability in yesterday's intrasquad scrimmage that the Jets envisioned when they traded up to grab him in the third round of this year's draft. The rookie running back displayed his power and quickness in the team's first game simulation.Greene, playing with a gimpy right ankle, also showed some surprising versatility on a 33-yard reception."I'm not sure he was asked to do a whole lot of that in college," coach Rex Ryan said after the scrimmage. "They just turned around and gave it to him. I think we all saw why they gave it to him so much. He is a talented runner. He's got great vision. Everything we thought he was. And the fact he's playing with an ankle injury. That speaks volumes about this young man."Greene had a nifty 11-yard run against the first-team defense in the first quarter. The former Iowa star bounced off a pile on the right side before bouncing it to the outside."If you want to be a complete back, you got to be able to do those things -- catching and blocking," said Greene. "I just go on the field and do what the coaches ask me and let my talent take over. It was good to get the pads thumping."Greene hadn't practiced with the offense since injuring his right ankle on a 1-on-1 pass blocking drill Sunday."I'm not 100 percent yet," he admitted. "My adrenaline got going so I didn't feel it at times. After some sets, I would feel it. But it's coming along."Ryan admitted the rookie will play a significant role this season."We got a pretty good stable of backs," Ryan said. "When he's in there, we know what he can do. I would think that he's going to get his share of carries."
