My son is in surgery... ask me anything (1 Viewer)

last really good meal you had?
Guess it depends on what you mean by "really good". Last night had a "last supper" with my son since his jaw will be wired shut for 6 weeks. His favorite TexMex joint. Fajita Steak Nachos.

Best meal before that was probably a great steak at a place called Black Rock.

GLGBK(andKjr)!

What ever happened to the older son's college girlfriend that Mrs. K didn't like?
He stuck with her for too long (mostly out of convenience I think) but broke it off this past Christmas  When I asked why, he said "I didn't want to buy her a present"... but he later admitted he was tired of her immaturity and "stage 5 clinger" personality.

Had pretty much the same surgery about 5 years ago..

My before and after pics... no bs
Whoh! Nice! My son has been in braces for the last year or so, so his teeth are already pretty straight... just need the bite corrected,
Yeah, I was in braces for a year before surgery too.. .I had LeFort 3-piece upper jaw surgery.. they didn't touch my lower jaw.. Cut my upper jaw in 3 pieces, widened it out, and screwed it back in with titanium brackets

How long is total recuperation time? Does he go to "regular" braces down the road?
6 weeks with jaw wired shut... including a wire holding the teeth "in place". After that, it's really just getting the jaw back to strength. May need invisalign braces for 6 months or so if any correction is needed.

She was dressing in drag to get out of the Army?

No, that would be Klinger (with a K)

I was 185 lbs when I went in for surgery.. I got down to 157 lbs in those 6 weeks of "liquid diet"..

It was the worst 6 weeks of my life..

I had to be hospitalized due to severe dehydration from not drinking my Ensure..

I had to go in and have my nose packed for a nosebleed that wouldn't stop...

I hawked up a blot clot the size of a baseball, no exaggeration..

It was Winter, like now.. couldn't do anything but sit around and watch tv.. had to try and sleep sitting up and my mouth would dry out something awful from

sleeping with it open because my nose was packed...

I don't tell you all this to scare you, just to prepare you.

It took a long time for me to say "Yeah, I'd do it again".. but with my results, I would. If you had asked me for probably 3-months following my surgery? I'd have throat punched you at the suggestion..

Oh, and warn him that in 6-weeks when the cut the apparatus out of his mouth holding his jaw together..it's going to STINK :X

Ugh... yeah... he's been prepared. He's going to GVSU so I'll send him up to your house if he feels the need for support.

Did you actually blend up "real" foods, or did you just do shakes/juices/etc?

I "tried" to blend up real food.. I was on a message board for this particular surgery.. went by recipes people suggested.. even tried the "pizza" somebody said was awesome..

No matter what I tried, real food came out looking like puked up dog food.. and didn't taste much better. I lived on Ensure, pudding, protein shakes and ice cream..

After 3-4 weeks, I couldn't stand it anymore.. Doc said I could eat anything I wanted, I just couldn't "chew"... so one day my wife was making hamburger helper for the kids and the smell

was driving me crazy.. I started shoving spoonfuls in my mouth and swallowing it without chewing... Best meal I had ever eaten in my life! lol

hey i hope that it goes or went well and that his recovery goes well also best wishes to your son and your family

Surgery done. Doc said it went great. In recovery. We don't get to see him for a couple hours yet though.

Awesome!! Like I said, it will be rough for a little while for him.. but to his advantage, he's 18.. i had the surgery in my 30's..

Prepare yourself to see his face like it got hit by a truck... My sister said she didn't even recognize me.. but no worries... i'm as handsome as I ever was now ;)

Good to hear everything came out ok in surgery Kee. Hoping for the least amount of pain and a quick recovery for Kee Jr.

Good luck, Kee and Jr. Not too many worse things than seeing your kid in the hospital, no matter what age or ailment.
