My sons school wont allow him on class trips without an adult (1 Viewer)

I would say since it's an educational outing that it's their responsibility to give him a one on one.
Why?
If its curriculum they have to teach the kid. Its like removing him from class because they are short one text book. They have to do their job.
There's no way to teach the kid the same material without the field trip? A field trip isn't curriculum. It's a way to possibly teach the curriculum. We have field trips all the time where for behavior reasons some kids aren't allowed to go. They get an alternative assignment that covers the same topic. The same can be done for a kid with medical concerns.
Why should he be denied the the same educational experience as the other children or have one of his parents take a day off of work to do the schools job?He pays taxes like every other parent and it is up to the school to provide the education. I completely agree with him that it is not fair.
The schools job is not to provide every kid the same educational experience.

For some odd reason I thought it was.

If they arent going to take him then they should at least drop the kid off at hooters or something til they get back.

I'm not arguing my opinion, just telling you the legality of the situation. The school has to offer an equal education, but not necessarily the same. It has to be fair and appropriate, but does not have to be the Cadillac. Just fair and appropriate.

Well I think the kid should be given a fun day if they wont let him go.

So the nurse called my wife and apparently the whole issue was around his asthma pump and not his epipen. The nurse said all we have to do it put in a letter stating our son can use his asthma inhalor himself if needed.

Good grief.
I'm surprised this paperwork wasn't already on file. I'd prepare to supply these types of documents at the beginning of every school year.

A lot of times schools send packets to parents with all this kind of stuff at the beginning of the year. Medical issues, internet user agreement, permission to appear in yearbook photos, change in contact, etc.

I dont think they expected the school to treat the kid like a leper.

Which cements the fact that the field trip is nonessential and the school should not have to provide a 1:1 aide for something that can be seen as the equivalent to a fun day.

Nor do I but they should let the kid go if he is old enough to use his inhaler and epipen.

So they have to staff an extra person for your kid? I think i see why the burdon is being shifted back to you. I don't remember anyone ever being left behind becuase of an alergy when i was a kid. Is this something new in schools now?
nyc public schools offer them. My SIL is a nyc public school teacher and said she never heard of this policy.
Maybe you can sign a consent or something to release the liability if he comes into contact with tree nuts. edited to make this sentence less creepy.
:lmao:

It's pretty standard policy for kids to need a doctors note to have medication at school and to be able to self administer that medication.

The field trip is to the library. Sounds like a blast.

The amazing thing is this whole thing wasnt even because of the epipen. The nurse said the teacher can administer the epipen. It was the asthma medication.

I love the library

Im sorry Mr Shady. The teacher is fully qualified to stab your son with a sharp object but they cant be expected to supervise his use of an inhaler. We just dont want the liability.

Why is this amazing? Epipens are fairly standard, the dosage is already measured out, etc. There are tons of different asthma inhalers/dosages.

If the teacher (having no medical training I assume) mis-administers asthma medication, then they are open to a lawsuit. Now you might not be a a parent that would sue in such a situation, but I can assure you that many parents would and it's a chance the school isn't willing to take. My school doesn't have an issue with this, but we have middle schoolers that are capable of using their own inhalers. With early primary students, that's not necessarily the case...

Btw I have 4G beeotch
That HD porn eats up a lot of data
I have unlimited data. What crap phone plan do you have?
The kind that isn't needed when I"m at home
I prefer the convenience of a phone. How else will a whack off in the john?
I have that cutting edge wifi. Its a game changer.
Id rather not have to balance a laptop on my knee while typing and moving the cursor with one hand. So much easier with a phone.

An amazingly revolutionary feature of that cutting edge wifi is that even phones can use it so you don't need to rely on a slower technology like 4G
