My thoughts on the Jets game (2 Viewers)

This loss falls on the coaching staff first. The play calling was painfully stupid and conservative. 16 million shifts before every play followed by a check down or a run up the gut into Ngata, Gregg and Lewis. Its just painful. Schotty pulls this garbage at least once a year and it just sickens me. Your the offensive coordinator. You have 3 jobs.....

1) mentally prepare the QB to make winning plays (obviously didn't happen, as Sanchez was clearly mentally out of it last night)

2) come up with a good game plan based on the opposition's strengths and weaknesses (instead of throwing into a secondary missing Reed and Foxworth, he ran right up the gut into 3 pro bowlers.

3) call good plays during the game based on what has happened (as far as i could tell, Brian S. didn't do anything worthwhile once the ball was kicked off, as Sanchez was changing 90% of the plays at the LOS).

Sanchez played like crap. The O-line played like Crap. Greene played like crap. The secondary (other than Revis and 1 play of Cromartie) played like crap. But the jets still win this football game if Schottenheimer calls one decent play that gets the jets into FG range one more time or turns one of their 3 short fields into a TD instead.

He's garbage. Always has been. I used to think Mangini was holding him back. Obviously, this wasn't the case. I'm PRAYING some franchise is stupid enough to make him a head coach next spring.

:( I've always been baffled how a guy like Schotty has continuously has his name brought up in head coaching vacancy discussions. He's proven nothing in this league.

It's official Jenkins Career is over.....That's sad..... He's a player I love watching no matter what team he was on.....Another Fluky injury that could happen to any player.
 As a Charger's fan, I have no love for the Jets, but Jenkins was one of those players I always had a great amount of respect for. There are so few dominant NTs out there, and they don't always get the credit they deserve, but they might be the single most important part of a 3-4. The Jets are going to face a huge challenge finding a way to plug the gap. They have enough studs to still have a strong defense, but this is the type of player that's impossible to replace.Awesome write up on the game, Chase. I agree with pretty much the consensus of what's been said. Personally, it was nice to see that LT still has something left, and I honestly think his moving to NY is going to benefit both teams. It was time for a change of scenery, but it was still bittersweet to see #21 in a different jersey.I think people tend to get caught up with what happens in Week 1 and overreact: anyone who thinks New England is just going to walk over the Jets is going to be surprised. The key is I don't think the Jets' standard gameplan of hyper-conservative offense will be enough this week. I'm not saying Sanchez needs to put it up 30 times, but there need to be SOME points scored so there isn't an unreasonable amount of pressure on the defense to not give up anything. Should be an interesting game.

I am no Jets fan - closer to a hater - but people thinking the Jets are pushovers, predicting the Pats by 2 TDs or more, just don't realize how good the Jets D really is. With terrible play calling, Sanchez at his worst, a couple dozen penalties and Greene looking as terrible as he possibly can look ... they lost by 1 to a team every bit as tough as the Pats are, if not better. NE may have a better passing game than the Ravens, although not by a huge amount, and their rush attack will hit a brick wall. And the Patsies aren't exactly trotting out the same front 7 the Ravens showed up with last night. I see both teams as flawed contenders and a fierce game either team might win.
:lmao: but I still believe the Pats have that intangible right now - confidence. If Sanchez and Co. can actually get their game a bit straightened out, they have a chance. In regards to penalties, I think that's a good point about Rex's defenses. However, I can't remember - and someone correct me if I am wrong - a game last year in which the Jets were penalized that often. A byproduct of blitzing/man coverage is more holding/PIs but not to that extent. They will surely commit more penalties, but I would be surprised if they make them as often and in as big of a spot all in one game. The Wilson one was a killer, as was the Braylon one.

I think the Jets will be alright up front. Pouha and Devito are very underrated and big cloggers. I think the bigger piece is Calvin Pace. He is their best rusher and he was missed last night. The blitzes were a hair off, as well. Adalius Thomas is probably going to sign soon (rumor has it), so we will see if he has anything left in the tank.

The Ravens defense was the better defense on the field last night and I loved seeing "the pig" get roasted. Great to be confident fat boy but it's not smart to place the bullseye on the backs of an underachieving offense.

This might be nothing, but they cut Woodhead, and resigned Clowney, who can run. Not that Clowney is going to do much, but it should open things up a little bit - Edwards and Cotchery are fine WR's, but they aren't "stretch the field" guys. Maybe with Clowney just being there, he draws some safety attention.

Ryan blamed himself for the conservative play calling on offense. Was he covering for Schottenheimer, or telling the truth? I think he was afraid of the Ravens defense, his own] defense, the one he built. He talked about the Ravens 45-2 record when winning the turnover battle. I believe he thought if the Jets could avoid offensive TO's, they would win. It aint that easy Rex. Not against a defense like that one.

Schottenheimer is the easy target. He takes an awful lot of heat for devising game plans his boss tells him to design. Ridiculously low risk, consevative run oriented "don't ask the QB to make a play" directives.

I'd like to see what he would doithout one hand tied behind his back. Last year he was accused of putting too much on Sanchez. Now he gets blamed for handcuffing the offense. Maybe... just maybe when an NFL QB needs little wrist bands to remind him of what the game situation is... maybe it isn' the OC who is the core of the problem. I know, I know, crazy idea...

The Jets coaching staff should have loosened the leash on Sanchez, the Ravens secondary is their weakness and it was obvious that Sanchez was told to check down all night long. 70 passing yards ain't gonna get it done ever.

I heard that interview with Rex and I felt like reaching thru the radio and slapping him in the face...

I think a 6 year old playing Madden would find the weakness of an opponent and try to attack it at least once...

All that said though.... If the Jets don't set a record for penalties, turn the ball over and drop passes like they did, they probably win and Rex is genius again...

Sounds like he wanted Sanchez to come out of this game healthy and with the confidence of no turnovers and of course, a Win...

I am with the camp that feels most of the issues are with Schotty and his terrible play-calling. I feel like he is still handling Sanchez with kid gloves, and that the young QB would actually do well if he just let him play. Also, his receivers did not help him out at all on Monday - Sanchez had a 30+ yard pass play to Keller called back because Braylon didn't get set. He also had a couple of first down passes (good passes) dropped by the usually sure-handed Cotchery, and Shonn himself dropped a pass or two right out of the backfield. The Ravens still have a stout run defense, and the Jets (i.e. Schotty) should have continuously tested that secondary. I'm probably just being an optimistic homer, but I don't think Sanchez is as bad as everyone is claiming he is - Schotty needs to be a little more creative with his playcalling, and the WRs need to get their heads out of their fourth point of contact.

I know the Jets can't do this because the "win now" aspect, but I can't help but look at what the Rams did with Bradford and feel a bit jealous - he got to sling it 50+ times in his first NFL game. Yes, he threw 3 picks, but still, you can see right away that this guy is going to benefit from that attiitude - "You're our franchise qb - go to it".

But the jets still win this football game if Schottenheimer calls one decent play that gets the jets into FG range one more time or turns one of their 3 short fields into a TD instead.

If the Jets don't set a record for penalties, turn the ball over and drop passes like they did, they probably win

If the Ravens don't turn the ball over three times in the first half, they win by 20.
