My WCOFF Draft last year (1 Viewer)

Team Legacy

Footballguy
Below is a recap of my WCOFF team last year that went 4-7.

The lineup throughout the year looked like this:

1. Ronnie Brown - Drafted at RB6, Ended up RB22 - Could have had Steven Jackson - RB2

2. Marvin Harisson - Drafted at WR6, ended up WR1

3. Antonio Gates - Drafted at TE1, ended up TE1 - Could have had Frank Gore RB5 or Reggie Bush RB9.

4. Santana Moss - Drafted at WR17, ended up WR29. Could have had Javon WR11 or Andre WR12.

5. Fred Taylor - Drafted at RB28, ended up RB20. Could have had Deuce RB16 (or Donovan McNabb)

6. Todd Heap - Drafted at TE2, ended up TE4. Could have had Reggie BrownWR26.

7. Eddie Kennison - Drafted at WR33, ended up WR32. Could have had Braylon WR27.

8 Cedric Benson - RB44, Could have had Marion Barber RB19.

9. Eric Moulds - WR57, Could have had Winslow or Betts.

Other Picks:

Rivers, Maurice Jones Drew, Reche Caldwell

HOT Free agent pickups:

Rex Grossman, Leon Washington, Chargers D

Colston went for $209 after week 1 going 4 for 50 and a TD. I was the 2nd highest bidder at $144.

Most all of my mistakes are listed above, but my lineup usually looked like this:

Rivers/Grossman

Fred Taylor / Drew / Ronnie Brown / Leon Washington >> Started Fred and Maurice on several occasions.

Harisson / S Moss / Kennison >> WR2 and 3 were weak all year and there was no way to help this after missing out on Colston.

Gates / Heap >> Starting 2 never worked, they were both good for about 10 a week all season.

Would Colston and St Jackson have been enough to get a team like this over the hump, or was the 2TE strategy so flawed that it failed from the beginning?

Rank the mistakes in order of severity:

1. Taking Ronnie over St Jackson

2. Taking Gates over Gore

3. Missing out on Colston

4. Taking S Moss over Javon or Andre

Looking for answers before next season.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what your strategy was? Are those the guys you targeted at those spots?

Coslton went for $797 in my bracket so I wouldn't feel so bad about that. I think what hurt you the most was the duel TE strategy. Where you picked Gates meant he had to be the #1 TE in an up year for TEs for him to win you games. Clearly it was a bad year for TEs and though Gates finished #1, I doubt he helped your team win any games in the crucial first 11 weeks of the WCOFF. Ronnie and S-Jax where somewhat similar statters the first 11 weeks so I dont think that hurt you much. But the differnce b/n a surging Gore and a slumping Gates defintely hurt.If I had to rank the mistakes: worst : Gates over Gore, Colston, Moss over AJ, and finally Ronnie over Stevie

There is no way to know what might have happened with these changes or if someonw else drafts differntly if you do but this is what I would have done different:1. Draft Jackson. Not a big Brown fan and never have been. Some of it is him and some is situation.2. If you draft Gates early then no need to draft another TE so soon. Having Gates usually gives you an Edge and allows you to go for "best value" after.3. I really like the Harrison pick.4. I probably would've drafted a different WR then Moss only because we knew his QB situation was iffy. Walker is one I would've liked better.5. As for Colston, I would not of gotten him either. Too much for my blood.6. Somewhere in this you have to have a 2nd RB so it really depends on who was there at the time but I might have gone RB over WR with 1 of those. I also would have gone QB earlier. Guessing QB is difficult and you like to have a QB/RB/TE that is a must start player(s) amd not guys you are guessing about.I am surprised at where some guys did go:Winslow in the 9th, McNabb in the 5th & Gates in the 3rd. Sounds like there was value to be had in that draft. But then again I've never doen WCOFF so I can't say I've walked in your shoes. Not yet anyway.

taking gates early was probably your biggest mistake.

Ronnie was a consensus pick there, so yes you were behind the 8 ball there, but so where a lot of other people.

If you had passed on Gates and taken Gore (someone who I targeted but went way early in my league) the Brown pick would not have stung as much, and probably makes all the difference in the world.

As for the WRs, they were solid thoughts, but it seems once round 5 rolled around, you were dead.

I loved the Frank Gore situation, so much I landed him in my local auction w/LT and FWP...big phat winner!

I think you have to secure that RB2 spot over the TE...I liked Jackson over Brown, but that's me not being a big Ronnie Brown fan AND being a huge StL-RB fan

either of these moves improves your stock a ton---had you gone SJax-Harrison-Gore, we're probably talking about how to spend your league winnings this off season!

what were the WR options @5?

w/a Brown-Harrison-Gore-SMoss start, I'm maybe looking QB, but more likely TE1/WR3, depending on the board...

nice call on MJD as be bailed out the RB SNAFU, along w/LWashington

when did you get Rivers?

that took huge stones, as most people I know don't have the risk/tolerance I do @QB (99% of the time I'm last @QB)

I don't think the biggest problem was 2-TE's per say, but 2-TE's in top 6 meant every other selection needed to be spot-on, w/no room for error...

...did you go in thinking "Stud-TE", or did that get revealed to you during the draft when Gates was there in the 3rd? (which was not too early, had you let TE2 go until much later)

(we HAVE to get together 1 yr on one of these TL!)
