Name these Quarterbacks (1 Viewer)

Joe's Random Shots this week got me thinking. Everyone seems to have essentially written JP Losman off as a QB. Why is that? So I pulled his stats from the 8 starts he's had this season with the first 8 starts of Eli Manning and Carson Palmer's careers. Can you pick which one is Losman? QB1 -

Code:
|  CMP  ATT   PYD  TD  INT ||  TOTAL   |   102  211  1149	8   11  |
% 48.3Y/A 5.44QB 2 -
Code:
+----------+--------------------------+----| | CMP ATT PYD TD INT | +----------+--------------------------+---| TOTAL | 157 279 1680 6 10 |
% 56.3Y/A 6.02QB 3 -
Code:
+----------+--------------------------+-----| | CMP ATT PYD TD INT | +----------+--------------------------+-----| TOTAL | 107 214 1265	8 7 | +----------+--------------------------+-----
% 50.0Y/A 5.91The point is, we have a good idea how good of a QB 2 of these guys are going to turn out to be, and based on comparable stats, we're writing off the third. The Bills coaching staff has mangled this situation.

I take it I'm the only one bothered by this?
Apparently. There have been thousands of QB's come in and out of the NFL and, while this is interesting, you've manipulated the data specifically to prove your point. If you want to be fair, show us the first 8 games for Peyton, Favre, Elway, Marino, Montana or any of the other of the hundreds of QB's who have been successful in the NFL. For that matter, I'm guessing there have been quite a few QB's who had much better stats in their first 8 games but never panned out.

I didn't manipulate anything. I showed the first 8 games of the two most recent "young successful" QB's. About your other point, I'm sure there are other QB's who had better stats and didn't pan out, the point is that Losman has been written off after only 8 starts. Heck, he was pulled from two of them before the game was over.

Its too early to know if Losman will be good or not, but writing him off after 8 games is silly. Is there any reason the Bills shouldn't start him this week?

To be fair, if you're looking at the latest young successful QB's you might want to include the 1st 8 games of this guys career...

Code:
+----------+--------------------------+-----| | CMP ATT PYD TD INT | +----------+--------------------------+-----| TOTAL | 120 172 1412 10 4 | +----------+--------------------------+-----
% 69.8Y/A 8.21

The manipulation isn't in the data, but rather in the selection of the subset. If we could get the first 8 games of all young QB's, and then do something with similarity scores, we might be in business.Does Losman look like Leaf, Manning, McMahon, Palmer, Carr, Harrington, Weinke, Detmer, or someone else? Is his similarity group really similar, and what did they do?

I didn't mean this to imply that Losman is going to be the second coming. I guess my main indictment is of the Bills coaching staff. Through similar points in their careers, you've generally had an idea what you were working with, with other QB's. Peyton through 2 seasons was a pro bowler. Palmer through 2 seasons was on the verge of breaking out. Eli through 2 seasons is looking like he can handle the load. Leaf through 2 seasons was practically out of the NFL.Do the Bills, or anyone else for that matter, have a good idea of what JP Losman can be as a starting QB?

I certainly don't disagree that the situation has been badly managed. They mostly set Losman up to fail. Heck, he put up better numbers than Orton. The only difference was, Orton's team was winning so he got to keep his job (for a while).

There are a few people with ideas, but we're not sure if any of them are correct.I view this situation as less bad than Flutie/Johnson, because I can see how Holcomb can be better than Losman while Losman develops. While I think Holcomb could be the next Rich Gannon, but he's not Flutie in popularity, nor has he been to Pro Bowl lately without a ticket. I wouldn't have drafted Losman, personnaly preferring Holcomb, but they need to make a decision.

This is basically identical to the Flutie/Johnson situation.Team has a QB who is not good enough (Bledsoe - Todd Collins).

Team brings in young prospect type QB to replace old QB (Losman - Johnson)

Team lets said QB move on

Team acquires veteran insurance policy for prospect (Holcombe - Flutie)

Young QB struggles

Young QB replaced by veteran

Veteran performs marginally better than young QB

Teamates choose sides between the two QB's (I think this is already happening, as evidenced by the Moulds suspension, and his comments about wanting Holcombe to start)

Team becomes fractured and falls apart...
