Sup?
I like Providence but yeah there's nothing there for a young person.I wouldn't think that would be the "cool" area for any of the younger crowd.
Of course neither would where I live (Hermitage/Mount Juliet area...) but its pretty safe and not too expensive.
Brentwood/Franklin is usually quite a bit more expensive then the areas I mentioned. Stay away from the Brentwood near Antioch section, pretty rough areas.my cousin lives in brentwood/franklin area. pretty darn nice there.
Not really sure to be honest. Somewhere that's decent, fairly safe, and affordable. I don't think she needs to be right in Nashville, but a town close enough as she will have a car.flapgreen said:Are you looking at mainly North of Nashville? A lot of it depends on where she's going to spend most of her time. In the city? On one side of town?
She want's to break into the music business. Get a job somewhere and slowly break into the business. Her degree is Commercial Music. She has extensive Music Engineering experience so she wouldn't mind something there, but to be honest her dream is to sing. She might look to break in as a back-up singer.saintfool said:Yeah, that's always been a lame part of town.
Pack - what's your doing planning to do while she's there? What's the rationale for the move?
Found a decent priced hotel there with decent reviews, other than that, no rhyme or reason.flapgreen said:Why are you going to Antioch? Airport? That place is terrible too.
East Nashville, Midtown Green Hills. It's where the majority of my friends (mid 20s) live that don't have kids/family yet, and where I spend the majority of my time when we have a babysitter / go for dinner etc. I moved to Hermitage, which I was pleasantly surprised with, and am building a house in Mt Juliet area now. Providence sucks. It's nice for shopping and traffic, and that's about it.
Is she working downtown? The Nashville Star is awesome for avoiding rush hour.
Madison/Rivergate sucks. Don't go there. What price range are you looking for? I spent ~1100 a month for a 3bd 2 bath apt, 1250 sq ft apt in Hermitage (~15 minute drive from downtown) and was a big fan with the area/community and the commute to downtown was easy. 40 isn't bad and usually is a pretty easy drive. From what I'm told, 65 and 24 suck for driving into/out of the city for work.
Those places are ideal, but expensive. I know they're building up East Nashville now but I still wouldn't be a fan of my young daughter living there.
my cousin lives in brentwood/franklin area. pretty darn nice there.
Thanks guys, this is the kind of input I'm looking for.Brentwood/Franklin is usually quite a bit more expensive then the areas I mentioned. Stay away from the Brentwood near Antioch section, pretty rough areas.my cousin lives in brentwood/franklin area. pretty darn nice there.
I'm a big fan of the East Nashville area atm. I know it has a bad reputation with people who have lived here awhile, but it's perfect for the mid 20s. 5 points area is our go to hang out spot.
Thanks, I'll look into them.Send her to Hermitage then. Look at the Cherry Creek and Canyon Ridge apts, right off 40, on old hickory blvd. ~15 minutes east of Nashville. One exit away from Mt Juliet / Providence area and living is about 80% of the cost.
It's really really tough to go that route though. Seemingly every waitress/waiter/bartender came to Nashville to be a singer.
While you're here, walk down Broadway. Live music every night, just to give you an idea of the talent that didn't make it past the bar/nightclub route. And they're all really good.
Stay out of Antioch. That place sucks.
They've been trying to build up East Nashville for about the last 20 years. It's never quite taken hold but it's fine. I dated a girl that lived out that way a long time ago.Brentwood/Franklin is usually quite a bit more expensive then the areas I mentioned. There are jobs out there but she shouldn't get hung up on working in the industry, per se. There are songwriter and open mic nights all over town every single night of the week. She can find like-minded individuals if she finds a good venue. Start with that maybe. She want's to break into the music business. Get a job somewhere and slowly break into the business. But for now she is just looking for a job. She was contacted for two administrative jobs, so hopefully she will interview while we're down there.
Yah, I like the area down West End a lot, but it's pretty pricey. I'd wager twice the cost of Madison/Rivergate area.Where is she working? Young people like to live downtown around Vandy, and just a bit South of that, headed towards Green Hills. East Nashville is becoming trendy, but I wouldn't want my daughter to live there. Ghetto and hipsters are within blocks of each other.
South of Nashville, the Franklin/Cool Springs/Brentwood area is awesome, but it's expensive.

Yea, I think that's her plan. She knows the music industry isn't just "walk in with a resume and get a job" she has to have contacts and work her way in.There are jobs out there but she shouldn't get hung up on working in the industry, per se. My thoughts exactly. But if she's looking for affordable and nice area, you can't beat Hendersonville. I love it up here.shader said:Where is she working? huh. Where at? I've been here for years and have never seen a rough part. Best city in the entire Nashville area imo.If money is no object, then of course it's Franklin.Make sure you go to the right parts of Hville, some rough areas there too

The music biz is tough here. There is way too much talent. But, if persistent, it's do-able.She want's to break into the music business. Get a job somewhere and slowly break into the business.
