My wife and I have booked a cruise in the fall that will visit these two ports.

I figure tapping into the vast array of knowledge that is the FFA would be a good start.

What to avoid? What to not miss? Suggestions, tips, warnings and attractions off the beaten path.

Whatcha got?

Cruising there next week...

The aquarium at the Atlantis hotel is pretty awesome, but it is a big tourist attraction. How much time will you be in Nassau?

If you have time, take a bus to Fish Fry and eat at O Andros. You'll be the only foreigners there and you'll thank me.

Have been to Nassau twice. A few notes:

Atlantis is the big attraction there. It's a huge resort - you've undoubtedly seen commercials on TV. The aquarium is pretty nice, although nothing special compared to some of the nicer ones I've seen in the states. The water park is really good, though. If you like water slides/etc, this is where you should go for the day. Food in Atlantis is ridiculously expensive, though.

The area around the port is bustling with "stuff". It's a fun hour browse. Oh, and those "Cuban" cigars advertised on the signs are not really Cubans. The cigar shop in Atlantis has real Cubans, though.

Do not venture more than a block or three away from the port, though. It gets very seedy, very fast. Nassau is incredibly poor. The bar at the end of the first block (I forget the name - frog something) is decent.

We took a cab to and from Atlantis (there are hundreds of them all around the port). Seemed legit, but there was a small part of me wondering if they would drive out to the middle of nowhere and say "ok rich American, $100 gets you back."

It was fun for a day or two, but the next time we stop there on a cruise, we'll probably stay on the ship or just hang around the port area - we've seen enough of Atlantis, and the rest doesn't interest us that much.

You can't get into the Atlantis pool through the hotel side entry (except with a room card), but nobody's checking the beach side entrance ;)

No, didn't do that - that's an "extra" thing. We just did the water park. Nice "lazy river", tons of water slides, and a decent beach. Fun for a day.

My sister and her family did the dolphin thing - they said it was fun, but kind of not worth the $$.

Ignore this cowardly stereotype and go to Fish Fry.

Been once, cab ride from the cruise ship me and the wife were offered to buy cocaine from the cab driver. I say no and he stops in about 100' and says you want that cab over there. So we get into other cab, lady cab driver drives like a bat out of hell thru the ghetto to Paradise Island. Gamble, drink and then crazy cab ride at night (praying cab doesn't break down) back to the ship.Enjoy.

 Thanks for this. I went to tripadvisor and plenty of great reviews. The only seafood my wife will eat is well fried shrimp, but I'll try whatever I can find.

Your message box it full, any thoughts/suggestions after your cruise?

I thought this was about Long Island. And my only do in Freeport is stay the hell out
Freeport sucks....sorry
I can't agree enough with this. We should have just stayed on the ship.

We walked over to Junkanoo beach for a few hours. Really wanted to try O Andros, but my wife wouldn't have had enough time to shop. She had to shop.
