Nasty heartburn/GERD like symptoms for days and just scarfed down (1 Viewer)

some wicked epic Halal chicken kabob and chick peas. Entirely possible I am going to explode. I have taken prilosec, i have taken zantec, and i am two-fisting pepto, but i gotta have that chicken baby! Any other remedies I'm missing, aside from skipping the sushi/halal double header today?

AKA the how do you treat your temporary or long-term esophagus issues thread. Please share heartburn/GERD sufferers!

Im pretty sure mine is from drinking two bottles of wine on sunday night during the dead show, preceded by a big bag of chex mix on the drive home that day, and an entire bag of pop chips the night before with a bottle of wine and the dead show, and there might have been another bag of chex that day too. And the same thing the day before. Feels like somebody poured road salt down my neck. I think something down there is saying no mas, so im going to send down some ultra soothing haagen das.

Congrats?
Thanks!

I'd suggest changing your diet.
hmm...sounds aggressive. i have temporarily put all wine and salty snacks on hold. i am not sure im capable of not eating spicy food at the moment. is there not a trick like with the hiccups that would just knock it out?

Finger your ######.

The tension it causes releases excretion into your esophagus.

Ever notice how some women and all gay men don't get heartburn?

Hmmmmm...some people mistake a Heart attack for intractable heartburn.

I actually developed short-stem Barrett's from years of smoking, drinking, etc. Dietary changes, abstention fro booze and smokes, Nexium, and checking on your situation by getting an endoscopy are the major steps in assessing and treating that sort of thing.

I know one of the treatments for GERD is 1600mg of Tagamet(generic: cimetidine) a day (400 before each meal and 400 before bed.) So maybe that'll work for you?

I think cardio exercise is helping somehow, too. Woke up at 3am totally uncomfortable, burping and pressure and all that, and unable to get back to sleep. Took Prilosec last night around six, tagamet 150 before bed, then again before I left at 6 this morning for two hours on the bike. Didn't feel a thing the whole ride. As soon as I get home and sit, it's back. Whatever the case, it reminds me of a whiskey-aggravated ulcer I had a few years ago, which would flare up after a couple straight nights of whiskey then go away if I took a week off. Definitely not a heart attack, esophagus cancer still possible. Ball cancer not out of the realm of possibilities.

I'm onboard with the Tagamet, though. Seems to help.

For those completely unfamiliar:

I have GERD. I didn't know I had GERD until I went to the emergency room with severe chest pain. It turns out that years of untreated GERD can cause esophageal spasms and inflammation that narrows the esophagus. The pain mimics a heart attack.

So with my new diagnosis came a referral to surgeon for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. From that, I learned I had Barret's esophagus; a precancerous condition. Over the years, the reflux from your stomach injures the cells lining your esopagus, and as they heal, the cells change through a process called metaplasia.

So I am now taking 1 Prilosec and two Zantac everyday. I have an endoscopy done every year.

So does Barret continue to live a normal life without an espophagus?

This is a good post. I'd just like to add that "whiskey ulcers" might be a cause to see a doctor and possibly a GI so that you can get a specialist in on the case. And changing the diet is better than anything you can do.

Raise the head of your bed 4-6 inches. That way the stomach acid stays in your stomach and doesn't seep up into the esophagus. Also allergies and the weather are tough this time of year. That could be contributing to your discomfort. I always have something stomach related for a few weeks once the temperature and humidity get up there. Easy to get dehydrated and not know it. Dehydration causes constipation. You can poop every day and your colon can still be impacted. More water, more fiber gets things moving, makes the whole digestive system work better. A lot of food and alcohol before bed isn't going to help. And of course see the doctor.

Stop eating wheat. Seriously, try it for a week and see what happens. I used to live on Tums every night; my heartburn was horrible. I traced it to wheat. When I don't eat wheat I have zero heartburn and can eat all the spicy foods I want. Give it a try.

Go to your doctor.

Get tested for H Pylori.

If positive be prepared to live next to the :toilet: for a few days while you take biaxin.
