Nate Webster. 1st string MLB. (1 Viewer)

I'm surprised they gave him a fair shake. His biggest problem early in his career was size but he looks to have put on 10-15 lbs of well proportioned weight. He was a real sleeper years back and he could be again. Bailey won't stay healthy so a 3-down role is very possible.

I'd be very surprised if Webster is the starting MLB in week 1. As a starter, he makes a good backup. ;)
I agree completely. Shanahan likes to play with the depth charts to keep guys motivated. Just look at what he's put us through at the RB position in recent years. Coverage has been a problem for Webster. It's why he never got a shot in Tampa Bay. Even if he does win the starting job and Bailey does get hurt, don't count on Webster as a 3 down guy. They could play Niko as a nickel LB. I can't see them leaving him on the bench all the time after the investment they made.

Baily is already injured, that didn't take long. I'm with DonFue, I think Boss will have a difficult time staying healthy.

Coach Mike Shanahan described Bailey’s injury as “pretty bad” as sprains go and that given the swelling, Bailey might miss a couple of weeks.

Bailey, who said it was a lower ankle sprain rather than a high one, was replaced by Louis Green, who injured his neck on the same series and was wearing a neck brace as he took the team flight home. Jamie Winborn finished the first half as the team’s strong-side linebacker.

Boss Bailey optimistic about ankle injury

Whoever gets the gig, may very well see a 3 down role.

Webster's chance at playing 3 downs also grows. Provided he can even keep the starting MLB gig.

Niko Kouvides will start WK1, they payed him to much and will want to see what he can do early in the season. however if he cant perform it will be intresting how long he keeps the job. if bailey is out long it will be intresting to see what they do.

my guess now with the Bailey/Green injury is that Webster goes back to SLB where he was for parts last year, DJ stays on weak side and Niko stays in the middle.......that's until Bailey gets back and then the week after he gets back when he gets injured again, look for the above situation to continue.........then when he comes back and gets injured again.......i think you know where this is going.

Yep ... I was talking about the MLB role (Webster and Niko), I should have worded that better.

I agree with this. The coaches apparently see Winborn as a backup given how this offseason progressed, so I think the Webster/Niko shuffle is the most likely outcome.

Winborn entered the starting line up at SLB for practice.

This may, in part, be possible because of the high praise backup rookie WLB Wes Woodyard is receiving.

(Rotoworld) Despite his switch to the weak side, Broncos LB D.J. Williams will play middle linebacker on passing downs this season.

Analysis: Williams, who wears the defensive headset to relay in signals from the sideline, will be an every-down player and maintain lots of big-play potential due to his versatility. If Denver lets him hit free agency next spring, other teams could view Williams as a full-time MIKE prospect.

Not too surprising that Williams will play inside in the nickel.

In other news, Koutouvides is getting the start at MLB tonight. May be more of a competition than we've been led to believe and/or another look in case Webster eventually moves back to the strong side in relief of Bailey and instead of Winborn.

DL's don't have value for me in my league but if they do for you I'd keep an eye on Marcus Thomas if DT's are of any value. Talent wise this guy is off the charts. He had a ton of personal issues at UF but when he played he was great. You ask most UF fans and he is one of the most talented DT's to play at UF in years.

Woody Paige's take on Niko's play last night.

The only glaring negatives were three: Niko Koutouvides, who started at middle linebacker, is not going to beat out Nate Webster, the first week starter. Koutouvides is a bit slow on the step reaction.

I was reading posts to remove Niko during the game from Bronco fans.I had also seen speculation that Niko is fighting to make the cut and the team really wanted to see him in action.

Apparently they think Williams, Winborn and Woodyard would shift about if needed.

Which could mean if Webster is hurt, or underperforms during the year... DJ could possibly be rght back at MLB.

Amazing. Nate Webster is the #7 overall linebacker in my main league at the halfway point.
