Rotoworld:

The Broncos confirmed that Nate Webster has won their competition at middle linebacker over Niko Koutouvides.

Denver's run defense will again be a favorable fantasy matchup. D.J. Williams should often be the Broncos' first linebacker to the ball, but Webster has 100-tackle potential at MIKE. Koutouvides will focus on special teams.

any thoughts?

Since this is Mike Shanahan we're talking about, don't be surprised if Koutivides is starting by week 2.the source article seems to suggest that's still quite possible since the competition was very close and Koutivides will play a ton in the last preseason game to speed up his adjustment to the scheme. I also wouldn't be surprised if this developed into a platoon situation with Webster playing on early downs and Koutivides playing in the nickel package. I wouldn't feel too comfortable relying on any Broncos LB other than DJ Williams this year. But, right now I guess, Webster is certainly worth a flier if available.

It's Nate. The Broncos' top position competition of the preseason has been settled.Mike Shanahan, the Broncos' coach, announced Nate Webster has beaten out Niko Koutouvides for starting middle linebacker. The decision was an upset of sorts as Webster is a nine-year veteran who was primarily a back up in Tampa Bay and Cincinnati before starting at strongside linebacker for the Broncos' last year. Koutouvides was one of the Broncos' top free-agent pick ups this offseason as he received a three-year, $7.5 million contract that included a $2 million signing bonus."It was a very close competition," Shanahan said. "Both guys I look at as starters. Both guys will help as special teams but it was nip and tuck."Shanahan said Koutouvides, a standout special teams player for four years in Seattle, would play extensively in the fourth and final preseason game at Arizona to get him more familiar with Denver's defense."Nate's a little more comfortable in it, right now." Shanahan said.

I watched the replay of the Broncos-Packer game - and Im not one bit surprised by this.

Webster is average and Niko looked terrible.

Again, Im going to say if things get real bad I wont be surprised if Wes Woodyard gets on the field at WLB...

as soon as he has the play book under control. Which would put DJ right back in the middle.

Didn't DJ tackle most players about 4 yards downfield?
