*NBA THREAD* Abe will be missed (4 Viewers)

Indiana has to have the toughest 3 game stretch coming up that any team will play all year:

Away at Spurs Saturday

Away at Thunder Sunday

Home against Heat Tuesday

Talk about a gift to the Heat scheduling the first Indy/Miami game of the year right after an absolutely brutal road trip for Indy.
I really don't think Miami gives a #### about a December matchup with Indiana, for the reasons I explained earlier. If they're willing to sit Wade for the second game in a row against a Chicago team they absolutely hate, I think we can safely say they're taking it easy for now. They probably figure they're more likely to beat Indiana in May with a fresh Wade and Bosh and three home games than with a worn-down Wade and Bosh and four home games.

This is a brutal road trip, though. I just took a look at the schedule, didn't realize this was just a continuation of the trip that had them in LA and Portland several days ago. Jesus.

BARGS!

There is so much to enjoy there. So much so that this slow dance was left on the cutting room floor.

One thing I just noticed- KG's solid "hands up in the air while shoving his genitals in Barg's face" routine. "I'm innocent ref Just minding my own business here! Don't look below my shoulders though."

You guys really don't like Boston to make the playoffs? They're low on talent but they're playing pretty solid basketball. Everything I've heard about Stevens has been positive. They'll get Rondo back sometime in the 2nd half. I think they'll get in as the 6th or 7th seed.

Random question for the homies:

So, Lebron and KD are clearly the best two players in the league. Who are your next 8 to round out the top ten? I'm talking right now, this year. So don't give me Drummond if you don't think he's there at this point in time.

Here's mine in spoilers IN ORDER:

3. Chris Paul

4. Paul George :h:

5. James Harden

6. Kevin Love

7. Steph Curry

8. Anthony Davis INJ

9. DeMarcus Cousins

10. John Wall
Rip away and give yours!

LaMarus Aldridge with 38 and 13 tonight as the Blazers move to 16-3. Wins over San Antonio, Indiana and OKC. He has to be in the conversation for MVP.
He was incredible the other night against OKC. Unfortunately the only conversation regarding the MVP is basically "LeBron is the MVP", so I guess we could include Alridge with every other player in the "No" part of the conversation if it makes you feel better.

Asik for rondo.

:goodposting:

That'll definitely keep them out of the playoffs.
The C's need to go ahead and get Rondo back before they win too many games having a PG that can shoot.

I don't think they want to make the playoffs. They've won enough recently and consequently built up enough goodwill with the fans, that they won't be tempted by the weakness of the East like most of the other teams in that 6-10 range. I think they'll flat out tank and make no bones about it. Keep Rondo inactive, trade Crawford, fake some injuries, whatever it takes.

Melo on the Lakers would make them the odds-on favorites to win the title IMO.
Not a chance in hell.
Yea, this is a ridiculous notion. Even if we pretend that Kobe and Melo are as good together as Lebron and Wade, the rest of the supporting cast would be incredibly lopsided towards Miami.Nash and some random league minimum guys
I think he might be joking guys.

I hear the Heat are looking for a guard, maybe Asik could play there.
Just read on ESPN that they are looking to shop Joel Anthony to get a guard in return?

Seriously, what kind of a D-league guard will they get in return for that garbage?

And I don't know why they are shopping for a guard, I thought Lebron could lead a Jr. High Basketball team to a NBA title?

I used to be a Melo basher, but he's been bashed so much, he's underrated.
This sums it up.

I realize he isn't liked much, but I would be shocked if we could come up with an agreeable list where melo isn't a top 20 Player.
Depends on what defines top 20 for you. If it is just points, then yup, he is. If its everything (in no particular order):

1. LeBron

2. Durant

3. Chris Paul

4. Paul George

5. James Harden

6. Kevin Love

7. Steph Curry

8. Anthony Davis

9. DeMarcus Cousins

10. John Wall

11. Aldridge

12. Howard

13. Westbrook

14. Duncan

15. Parker

16. Dirk

17. Horford

18. Irving

19. Gasol

20. Asik

21. Lin

22. Parsons

Then there is guys like Hibbert, Vucevic, Griffin, West, Drummond, Lawson, Deron, Lopez etc. who will be better than Melo over the life of his next contract.
LOL at this list. Cliff, your allergy to scoring is beyond silly.

Why? You enjoy seeing 2 guys who probably aren't in the top 20 of current players getting max money from your favorite team playing an unwatchable brand of chuck and duck basketball?
Melo had the 4th highest PER in the NBA last year. And he's top 5 in the world at the most important skill in basketball.

The hate is ridiculously over the top. Yes I'll take Melo, alongside Kobe, and take my chances. You'd be insane not to.

I was mostly joking about not being top 20 (though I'm pretty sure he's not top 10).

He'll never win a championship as the #1 guy on the team. And he gets paid like a #1 guy. I don't care how many points he scores or what his PER is, he's got zero rings. That'll continue if the Lakers are dumb enough to acquire him and pay him max money.

Bryant + Anthony on an NBA team would be a disaster if you're actually trying to win a championship. And don't talk to me about the Olympics, that's something entirely different.

There's a bit of shtick/exaggeration in there. And it isn't an allergy to scoring. It is an allergy/disgust of ISO ball. I'd much, much rather watch a team like the Suns this year than an iso-centric team with "superstar" players Knicks, Raptors (Gay is paid like a star), Lakers w/ Kobe, etc. I haven't looked at the numbers, and I'm not sure what stats would bear it out, but the league seems to be trending towards more and more team play than the previous decade which was dominate by ISO ball.

ETA: Pace and team assist average would probably show it but I've been drinking and am not going to look it up. Maybe Monday morning.

Well, the bold depends on who he's surrounded by.

And who else in the NBA can you really say will win the title as a #1 guy? LeBron and who else? CP3 is the 2nd greatest PG of all time, and he probably won't ever win a title. KD has 2 more shots with Westbrook, then he's gone, and who knows?

I think some of you guys drastically underestimate how well great players can play with each other. Kobe running the point-forward position with Melo at the 4 creates all kinds of matchup problems for opponents. Who do you double? And when you do, you're leaving the floor extremely vulnerable to the other HOF'er.

Melo is one of about 4 guys in the NBA who can get so hot that he's just unstoppable, regardless of the defense. When you have the opportunity to get one of those guys, you do it, and make the other pieces fit around them.

Probably the younger, bigger one that didn't just tear his Achilles tendon.

Or double both and hope like hell Nick Young's on the court.

I think this applies to the Sixers as well. Sam Hinkie is not going to miss out on a top 5 pick in this draft to sneak in as the 8th seed. A nice start got the fans invested but eventually Turner and/or Hawes will be moved and MCW will keep having "knee soreness"

I think e rockets will trade Asik for a future pick like the one they had from the raptors (protected to be IN the lottery). However, I could absolutely see Hinkie taking Asik for turner. Mcw, wiggins, Asik, and Noel would be a pretty solid core.

Sixers should do Turner for Asik in a heartbeat.

And since then all you've done is bust my balls thread after thread, when you didn't get what you wanted.

But I do what I've always done, try to help out young guys going to college or folks with limited budgets with kids going off to college that could use a machine.

Go ahead, run to your buddies to try to get me clipped, doesn't change the fact that you are classless free swag whore Abraham.

You know two guys who don't like each other? DoctorDetroit and I. But at least DoctorDetroit has the dignity to not come demanding free stuff from me in private, after taking jabs at me over the years, then increase the intensity of his digging at me when he doesn't get what he wants.

You make even a POS like DoctorDetroit seem credible, which puts you, in my book, right up there in value, somewhere between a warm cup of smegma and a used tampon.

Now go get your ####### shine box.

I expressed my interest in the laptops. I don't recall asking for one for free.

GG: Somehow your post re my homerism got deleted. No worries.

Some fair points. Obviously both Kobe and Melo would have to adjust their games if they were to ever play together. I think it's going to happen regardless with Kobe, especially if Nash never recovers. The Lakers won't win anything else unless Kobe becomes more of a facilitator and I think even he realizes it. We shall see.

Melo's never played with someone like Kobe, and Kobe's never played with anyone like Melo. They've always been by far the best offensive option and I think both care more about winning than getting there numbers, despite that being the popular narrative. But you correctly pointed out the hurdles in Melo ever becoming a Laker - it's unlikely.

I don't have any fantasy about Pau coming back for reduced $. I'm fine with it if he does, but if not, I enjoyed his time. He's a shell of the player he once was, basically a replacement level guy this year.

W/Melo, but W/o Pau, the Lakers are still two good role players away. LA would need to land a rebounding/defensive-minded center, as well as a defense first PG in order to compete for the title, which would be extremely difficult after Melo and Kobe's $.

Indy laying a beatdown on San Antonio right now. Up 23 in the 3rd quarter. My guess is this game ends up much closer though as Vogel tries to get the starters extra rest for the next two brutal games.

Doubt Carmelo is even on the Laker's radar. Just wait a year and land a younger/better K. Love. Only way he's not a Laker is if Clips offer a package including Griffin for him THIS season. Which is not happening. If Love still on Minn. after this season he will just wait it out one more season and refuse to sign an extension with any trade partner because he's getting the max regardless. Even if Love had a bad injury he could probably still get a max deal when he hits FA.

If D. Rose was a FA after this season he would get a max deal. Love in that stratosphere. He has nothing to worry about. Just where he wants to play.

Ben McLemore is starting to come on a little bit. He reminds me a ton of Bradley Beal through this stage of their rookie season - both are big time athletes with great shooting form, and below average ball-handling skills for the position. Hopefully he'll start to find his stroke more consistently like Beal did toward the end of his rookie year.

Three years is a long time. There is roughly zero chance that the Lakers leave themselves in a situation to have the cap space to sign Love by then.

In that span, they'll be paying Kobe $80 million to get the scoring ti, er, ..I mean try for another ring. They are about to give out a lot of bad contracts to help in that quest.

Plus, Kobe will be needing another extension then too. With the Lakers bidding against themselves, there's no telling how high they go with that. Lakers pay for past performance, so he'll be worth even more then than he is now.

Man Cancels Wedding To Watch Kobe’s Return

A San Diego couple were set to exchange wedding vows this Sunday after months of preparation until it was abruptly canceled, and they have Kobe Bryant to blame.

According to reports, 28 year old Simon Bradley, a self-described ‘obsessed’ Laker fan decided to post-pone his wedding so he can attend Kobe Bryant’s highly anticipated return to the court from a torn Achilles this Sunday at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The man promised his fiance’ Melissa they will set a future date, but we’re going to assume it will be after the season.

The couple, who were set to wed at the Banquet Hall inside the Marina Village inconvenienced about 60 guests.

Lakers host the Toronto Raptors Sunday at Staples Center, the game will be nationally televised on NBA-TV.
