And CLE ended up with the best of their three choices for the job, both from a "winning basketball games" perspective and a "keep LeBron in town" perspective. One of the negatives LeBron had about Mike Brown was that Brown never played in the NBA. Bryon Scott won titles as a player, and has two Finals appearances as a coach. He's a good coach, and was the best one available (assuming Larry Brown and Phil Jackson were just pipe dreams).

this is why i question Chicago being the frontrunner for Lebron. They just hired a long time defensive assistant with no experience as an NBA player or head coach. Sounds a little familiar.

I would think that at least one of the Arizona Wildcats would need to be included. I’m lukewarm on Stoudemire but you could do far worse. At the least, he would give the Rockets possibly the most enviable offensive quartet in the league.

I'm guessing that Gortat is the centerpiece of the Magic's end of a deal like that. Looking at the contracts though, it looks like another team is going to have to get involved to help the Magic pull this off. There is no way that Utah trades for VC or Lewis to make this go through with Gortat. There's no way that Boozer comes aboard for Gortat's $7 million/year contract either.

MP's contract is bearable. he does defend and that's really what sloan wants more than anything. i'd only take pietrus if a 3rd team could be brought in to make this deal work.

Yeah there was some talk on the local sports station about adding him. The thought was GS would match the offer but is GS so you never know. Kings need a good shooter and a backup PG.

I'll hold judgment until the full terms are made public. I'd be surprised (and really disappointed in Hammond) if all the years are fully guaranteed.

i wouldn't give $6mm to Reddick, would you? and, yeah, matthews is already there. he didn't shoot the 3 often but he was pretty effective post-all star from out deep.

Gortat + Pietrus would make around $12MM. That's plenty to bring in Boozer, and bringing in Boozer means moving Rashard Lewis to SF. Pietrus certainly fits the mold of a Sloan player. Still... maybe I'm not as high on Boozer as a lot of y'all, but I'd almost rather have Gortat and Pietrus than Boozer.

Typically I would agree, but this Magic team desperately needs toughness. The Celts tossed them around like a rag doll; they can't go into another season like that.

I don't think Boozer's the answer there. He's undersized and really has problems getting his shot and defending against full sized 4's - just the kind of guys he'd see in the late rounds of the playoffs. Howard might want him but I don't think he's a good fit.Orlando should be on the phone with Bosh/Toronto, offer up Gortat and Carter (he he he) for Bosh.

Is the market for Salmons going to be determined after Rudy Gay, Joe Johnson, etc. sign? He's obviously a step below those guys, but couldn't a case be made that he's somewhat similar to Ben Gordon?

i think you're selling him short with that comparison. he's definitely not sexy or a-level talent but he's a little more mobile and versatile than ben.

That's good to hear - I was actually trying to think of a good comparison and "sparkplug shooting guard off the bench that scores in bunches" was the best I could come up with. I think Salmons is a nice player and would have made a lot more money last season (or next season) then in this market. I think he'll get a 5/30 type of deal out of someone.
